How’s the running coming along Gerg?

Seriously out of condition but feeling better each run. Did three runs this week of about 5k each - a little further each time. I felt a little sore a week or two back after the first two runs, but making a conscious effort to shorten my stride. I used to love the long stride but probably not too good for the knee. I know I have to take it slow but I'm so keen to get up on the trails on Cooleman ridge. Love running up there.

You training for anything in particular atm?

Good to hear you are keeping it consistent, that’s always the key, and one I’m struggling with at the moment with injury and illness, but hopefully next week I’m back to 100%.

I’ve got Western Sydney 70.3 in November as the next target race, a couple of runs and small tri’s before then

Wasn’t sure whether to put it in here or made/ruined day thread, but today is my sons Cross Country presentation - he started the season as a 4 year old, and ran a 2km cross country race with me most weekends for the last 22 weeks.

3 big things I took from it were the look of absolute determination he gets when it starts getting hard, the look of quiet satisfaction he gets when he starts overtaking people in the last 500m because he has paced well, and in one race he was just a bit flat and another kid he likes to race beat him. He turned to me as we finished and said ‘it’s ok dad, other boys can win sometimes, I still had fun’.

Really proud Dad moment today :thumbsup

No one remembers who came 2nd Coastal.

Ya need to snap that train of thought out of him.

Take no prisoners.

I can remember back in high school we had the cross country in my age group and I let a mate of mine pass me with the finish line in sight thinking the top 2 would go onto the zone carnival.

No..

He went off to the zone athletics carnival and completely stunk it up while I didn't go.

I was shattered, especially when he got his photo in the annual school log book as the U16s cross country champion. I fair dinkum let him win...

Since then I've been determined to win everything I try..

Hit the trail just now, 15 degrees with a light breeze. Beautiful sweeping views of the Brindabellas, a few other runners out and about. Reminds me why I love it.

My 50km trail race tomorrow has been cancelled due to bushfire. Not happy Jan. Still, probably a better outcome than being burned alive.

How many ultras have you done this year and how many more are you planning?

Which race is it doc? I know river run is on as I know some other people doing it?

I am really looking forward to getting into trail running and Ultras but I’m putting it off for a while - I know myself too well, in that I go through phases. I am still loving triathlon, so I’m going to ‘save up’ trail running until I start getting over tris!

Coastal High 50 mate. https://www.coastalhigh.com.au/

It was a good call. Fire went through the start line overnight and a few houses were burnt down. A running race being cancelled pales in comparison to what those poor people are experiencing Image

Loving the trails though. Really hate running on the road these days, unless I keep it short. Psyching myself up to go for a long road run now.

Great call then given what’s happened overnight.

I’m struggling to resist the draw of trail running, the company I work for just signed a deal to to some sponsor stuff at about 12 trail runs in Aus and NZ in the next year - I doubt I can resist if I turn up in the village :roflmao

Trail running is the bomb.

Its peaceful, scenic. It doesn't feel as strenuous or taxing. No one runs up the big hills, and flying down the big hills is fun.

I imagine that there would be some great trails around the Central Coast

Yep, and a lot of great events nearby as well, Boudii, Convict trail on the Great north walk, raffertys, all within 45 minutes.

I've been up this way for a decade and this is the only time I've seen fires. I reckon this is fire season for eastern Queensland. It generally rains a lot over the summer months so often too green to burn. Hasn't rained for a while, everything is dry, temps sudden jumped to the 30s and winds picked up a gale.

I've been completely ignoring this thread while my training sucked lol

Good to see you getting back into it, gerg.

Coastal, was gonna do Blackmores months ago to set a new marathon PB, but training barely happened. Maybe next year. You run?

Agree with all, trail running is what it's all about. Finally got back out to do a decent one on the weekend. I was dying at the end, as expected, but prob not bad as expected.

Have a 50km Spartan in November in Bright. By now, I'm not going to be in great shape, but hopefully can stay consistent and do ok.
