I did 8km in 49:30 this morning. A bit slow, but happy with the distance. A bit bummed out at how quick I'm improving only for it to be taken away from me shortly.

Gotta try and fix the old treadmill on the weekend before the lockdown. If that fails I might need to lash out and buy one.

Could you really not go running in the bush by yourself during a lockdown? Surely that can't be controlled or be any kind of risk?

In other countries with lockdowns you're only allowed to leave the house to buy supplies or seek medical attention. The police and army are enforcing this in some of them.

See how it pans out. I too am getting back some fitness I probably haven't been at since last June. I have the motivation right now and keen to keep building.

Dangerous times. Your body and mind is so used to eating more than you would normally. Particularly you who burns through 32,000 calories a day.

I feel for you mate. It’s going to be an incredibly tough period.

I just need to get through this bit and be able to train again, I need an outlet. Hopefully another pair of tests tomorrow bring some sort of answer.

How have gym goers here been adapting to the current circumstances? Our gym has moved completely online for the time being, but I'm struggling to adapt to home workouts due to lack of space and resources, so I'm planning to freeze my membership.

I've mostly been running to keep myself moving until the gyms reopen, but unfortunately my knee keeps flaring up for some reason which isn't helping

Most have moved to an online platform, where they give you workouts that you do at home and they charge you a minimal fee.

I suspended mine, as I said I'm struggling with it atm

First run after a five week layoff. I've lost all fitness I had, all of it.

I've seen the coronavirus memes about people being told to stay home and then going out to exercise. On my usual trail I usually pass between 5 and 10 people, even on a two hour run. Today I must have run past 30 people.

Not good, not good at all. To top it off I've had to invest in new shoes as well

I definitely won’t be going more than 12 months without replacing my touch boots. They just wear out so quickly, even if they look ok on the outside.

Today is 5 months post-ACL surgery. I’ve been jogging a bit on grass, all be it with some pain. Legs still have more hair on them than muscle, so that will be the focus of the next 5 months as well as agility/speed work.

September looks a likely return date, if we’re out of lockdown.

Real shame for a few blokes I play socially with. 3 of them were selected for NSW seniors teams (including an over 60s team) and they ended up cancelling the mid year comp.

I’m lucky I have half a gym at home to get my workouts done. Isolation’s actually going pretty well from that point of view, I’ve put on about 4 or 5kgs of muscle this year and still pretty lean. Once I start playing footy again, no doubt the weight will absolutely fly off me.

There are a lot of things happening much quicker than expected. Pubs are reopening next week in NT, school as are starting to reopen to all students, and visitation is increasing from tomorrow. It was only really 6weeks ago that this started and we are already slowly turning it around. And UTA is still another 6 months away, so I don’t think it’s a definite no.

But even if mass gathering haven’t been reopened without limits, there’s a near certainty that they will have been relaxed WITH a number limit. Let’s say that limit is 500. If the organisers are adaptable and start the entire event schedule from scratch with all events starting off in 30 minute waves of limited numbers, it could totally happen. All rego packs get sent in the mail etc Combine that with the likelihood of it being a domestic event only, and a lot of risk is avoided.

I already know the start/finish venue is almost certainly changing, so the crowded nature of that area would be avoided.

Someone told me today the total over all of the events was 5000.

So that’s 20k, 50k, 100k. So ballpark 1700 each.

Let’s say they get revolutionary and say participants only, no spectators.

Let’s also say they schedule the 20k Thursday, 10 waves every 20minutes.
Friday is 50k, same wave periods.
100starts Saturday, finishes Sunday.

That would mean waves of under 200 people. You manage how you corral participants, so each ‘wave’ could only be letting 10 people through every 20 seconds or so (which happens in Ironman swim starts already) to control the flow of people on course.

All of a sudden the numbers don’t seem so bad.

Different environment and experience from normal, but it’s a different world.

And it’s still 6 months away, so it’s also going to be a very different environment.

Interesting section from bio expert on his Benelux of a staggered introduction if crowds leading to normal operations by grand final time.

Combine this with the AIS work, the staggering of restriction release, and more to come on Friday, races in October are looking promising.

Really it all comes down to whether or not the numbers go up as restrictions are eased. It's really, really hard to fathom that we will see packed stadiums this year though. The federal government were presented with two options during the week - elimination or suppression. Given that restrictions are being eased off ready, we are clearly headed for suppression. A pity, elimination would have seen a return to mass gatherings far more quickly.

Did they talk about what elimination involved? Was it stage 4 lock down for a month or just longer stage 3?

I agree with you, I find it hard to fathom that we will have full stadiums this year. My poi t was though that’s it’s not a black or white thing, we will have groups gatherings/events allowed in some form by October, what the restrictions are remains to be seen, but events such as UTA are flexible in the way they have multiple days, movable schedules, rolling starts and no real requirement for spectators.

And to be fair, I’m massively on the optimistic side of things, because if there aren’t some form of group athletic events being held in that time frame, I’m very likely to be unemployed.

Longer stage 3. As little as two weeks longer. Seems like a small price.
