I also find toast in what looks like a kidney dish a bit weird

Looks like the big breakie, bacon, eggs, bangers (chipolates) n beans - toast compliments it well

Just gave Wasabi in Manuka a nudge - Japanese restaurant in which ol' mate cooks and serves in front of you.

Food was ok. Service / entertainment was brilliant. Would go again for sure.

Hale + Mary Kingston

This will be the closest bar/restaurant to my place. They had a private opening tonight and it opens to the public tomorrow morning. There are a kazillion TVs with sports channels. It's described as a US styled sports bar/dining. It looks terrific.

Went to Penny University this morning for a late breakfast/lunch.

I tell you, I can't say I've ever had better poached eggs with bacon and avocado in my life. Every single thing about that dish, some may say a simple dish, was perfect. Such things are, of course, not simple.

I went to Jamie's Italian today. It was poor. The tables seemed tacky and dirty, even when wiped down. The food was, frankly, dreadful. The crispy squid was dry and rubbery. Food just really poor. Jamie Oliver clearly doesn't care what sort of food is being served up in his name. It's awful.

I went to one of his over here in London and swore it off. It was a quiet period and yet we waited an extremely long time for an indifferent waiter to take our order and even longer to bring anything out. We ordered things that really should have been quick to knock up like Bruschetta and Cold meats but waited something like 45min to an hour. What came out was mediocre at best. Dreadful and overpriced and I'd warn off anyone from trying. :cmon

Not sure if any of the Londoners ever read this part of the forum but this pizza joint is opening up here on Friday. I went to their Naples restaurant and it was incredible so I'm pretty bloody excited.

@Archer
If you haven't tried it check out the joint in Brixton or Marylebone.

One of my mates places, the food is sensational.

I thought you had left the name off, but its literally called "the joint". Looks to have good reviews and my kind of food (and it looks like they source the meat from the ginger pig which is a huge tick from me), will definitely head over that way and check it out sometime soon, cheers!

If you're on the Gold Coast... try Social eating house and bar at Broadbeach. Sensational food... and the nicest, most welcoming bar and waiting staff you could hope for.

Went to Eighty Six in Braddon last weekend and it was bloody superb

The food was excellent, nice wine list
A little pricey but we also had seats up at the bar and were watching the staff do their thing. It was a really cool experience

Yes, I was sitting at the bar tonight, and it was great. The bar staff keen to chat and the wait staff were some of the best you'd hope for, not a "serious" restaurant, obviously, but very welcoming. The food was honestly sensational. Will have to try Eighty Six. Have often passed it by.

Been in Melbourne this week and have eaten greek, italian, chinese, vietnamese, turkish, japanese and even the bogan national dish, the chicken parma. The Preston Markets are superb too. I'm not far off exploding but as a treechanging city-boy you take your opportunities when you get to the big smoke.
