Went to Blu Ginger indian last night, outstanding. Some sort of South indian coconut prawn and coriander dish was the highlight.

I think they have one in Sydney as well.
Coconut with coriander? Surely you jest. That's the fashion equivalent of wearing blue with green.
Pretty much every Thai curry uses coconut and coriander tbf.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Fresh spaghetti with smoked salmon and asparagus in a creamy leek sauce and a glass of nice red for lunch down at Watson shops today.

I love Christmas time.

I went to Le Tres Bon at Bungendore for lunch today. On the Canberra Times list of Canberra's 20 best restaurants, yes, the top 20, and this place has no right being there. Huge disappointment.

It was rustic and kitsch in terms of decor, fine, but never, never ever, give me a plastic tablecloth and a paper napkin. Not in a top 20 restaurant.

Then there's the food. I was expecting old fashioned French country cooking, but it was not traditional presentation. The duck confit was soggy, not crispy, drowned in a terrible cherry sauce that was advertised as "Christmas cheer" or some such thing. Then the creme brûlée. It should be listed as a crime brûlée. Sugar on top was left granulated around the edges, with the toffee not properly formed. And coffee flavour in the custard creme, please, NEVER. You can tell a lot about a French restaurant by their treatment of the classics. Massive fail.

Given the owners are French and run annual food tours to France, I was expecting much, much better food.

My rating is: Don't bother. Fine dining prices, with food that does not match.

Zinga!

I don't think a restaurant in Bungendore should be listed in canberra's top restaurants anyway.

You had a completely different experience to me, i loved the joint. It wasnt fine dining, pricing IS steep and the deserts did lack sophistication and technique, but the food was fantastic when i went there, i got a cassoulet and it was really top shelf, it had all the wonderful, simple but strong flavours of typical french cooking, and hearty too. I thought the food is very traditionally french in substance but not in it's presentation.

I would recommend it, but in the same way i would Poachers Pantry. If you go in, forgetting it's reputation and just have a meal, you'll enjoy it. If you go in with certain expectations, it wont live up to them.

I lived a number of years in France, I know what to reasonably expect as a basic standard and this restaurant did not meet it, nothing like it.

How awesome does it look though, I thought my chicken breasts wrapped in bacon were good. Also saw taco shells made out of bacon, I'm drooling everywhere.

I had random pork stuff from a place in Shinjuku that you put money into a vending machine and what comes out bares no relation to what you thought you were ordering. Highly recommended. Probably will never find it again.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Haha it'd be dangerous.

Because the only time I ever go out of my way to get to and eat KFC is when I'm very hungover.

I ate 68 oysters in one sitting last night. Went to this seafood buffet at the casino and had my eye focused on the oysters. A sprinkle of salt and a squeeze of lemon. Best $29 I ever spent.
