The dumplings gave you service?

Honestly i'm not sure, i think it was the same as the old restaurant there, just upgraded decor etc. Next to where oporto used to be. Dumplings have always been a fav, i still think dickson is the best in Canberra.

Yeah the Dumpling place at Woden is the same as the old Chinese Kitchen, only with a new name, slightly new menu etc

We had some dumplings from there and were really disappointed with them. Thought they were ****.

Took my dad to Grazing at Gundaroo today for lunch. It's outstanding in every respect. Best restaurant I've been to in a long time.

Wife and I go out there every year for truffle festival, they do a special truffle menu. Fantastic restaurant

We went to Mezzalira on Melbourne Cup day, 2nd time we've been and it wont be the last, absolutely fantastic food, cured meats antipasti was insanely good, i had an awesome wood fire pork cheek main and the desert was a chocolate torte w/pistachio ice cream and rhubarb

highly recommend it

You know bonehead I've driven past that pub a thousand times and thought one day I'll stop for a beer. Now that I know the food is good I'm gunna do it for sure.

So I'm looking at shouting my sister and bro in law a fancy dinner. Looking through the last few pages of this thread I'm thinking Mezzalira. Any comments?

Not in the group of top restaurants anymore IMO.

Aubergine is one of the best, Italian and Sons is much noisier and much more casual but is better than Mezzalira (I think the same people own the two restaurants though).

Grazing is the best place I have eaten in a number of years, but it is a drive into the country to Gundaroo.

Thanks GE. I considered Grazing but a bit far for me to go to organise it. Will check out Italian and Sons.

Id have no problems what so ever taking anyone out to Mezzalira.
The food is absolutely fantastic, it's basically fine dinning and presented as such, the service is great, great menu, really strong wine list too.

It's not as fancy and doesnt have the reputation of the others like GE mentioned, but imo, the food is as good as any in the ACT

It's only 30 minutes drive from the centre of the city to Gundaroo. But it is probably hard to organise a taxi if people are drinking.

Aubergine is great. Rubicon is also very good at Griffith, though I've been there so many times I'm sick of it.

It's good, but not top notch anymore, at least the last time I went there. It is fine dining presentation. Italian and Sons is noisy, noisy, noisy casual dining, but the food is great. Tables very crammed and no soft surfaces to absorb the noise. But it has a real buzz.

Sage is the other place I like, in terms of more sophisticated presentation... but the food is not at the level of Aubergine or Rubicon IMO.

I'm heading to Hogs Breath in Canberra tonight. It'd have to be one of the top establishments in the region.

Kanayama in Kobe. Michelin Star dining for $50 a head, and its genuinely world class. We're robbed blind in Australia

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

I paid 700 Euro for a 3 Michelin star dinner in Paris at the Plaza Athéneé. I'd say we aren't the only nation overcharging for food.

I paid obscene amounts of money for meals in Paris, and they were worth every centime.

We paid obscene money to have a meal at Le Meurice in Paris, which is a 3 Michelin star restaurant and completely agree with you guys. Worth every cent, and it's the first thing i advise people to do when visiting paris, forget money for one night, and go and have a meal at one of these places. Magnificant

the restaurant at the top of the Effiel Tower superb too, well worth the money
