Southerly will be with us around 2am - can’t open the windows to let the fresh air in though, still too much smoke.

Thick smoke back in Canberra. Very thick, as thick as it’s ever been. Batlow reportedly has seen the service station blow up... but not that many buildings lost. Spot fires now on the ACT border.

Huge fire threatening Eden now...

I’ve got to say, the pit of my stomach sinks every time I check, threatening places I love.

Woke this morning to incredibly thick smoke, yellow tinge to the sky. Guess that was the sun trying to get through. Had a small shower of mud and debris earlier too by the looks.

Backordered an air purifier for when they get restocked in the next few weeks or so.

Did the research and landed on the mid-range Breville one for $329 to cover 40m2, excellent price considering how all the stats compare. Apparently I'm one of only a handful to order a Breville one, Dyson is the people's choice for some crazy reason; 50+ of them are backordered.

IMO, bolting a fan on top of an air purifier is not worth a $370 premium - which more than doubles the price... yet the hordes are lapping it up.

I've been looking at one but with the Aus Post delivery hold it will probably be winter before it gets here

Depends if your location requires delivery, I guess.

In store pickup should be fine; businesses across the country are still getting stock delivered via trucks and pallets. You'd think the delivery halt is for the sake of the posties on the bikes, not drivers in enclosed truck cabins (plus, freight at scale is probably more of a Star Track/DHL thing than something most companies use AusPost for).

We got some rain in Canberra... but not much. The smoke has cleared significantly, but the air quality is still listed as four to eight times the hazardous level. Yesterday was the worst day for me so far... the smoke seemed to somehow ooze into the apartment... coughing and sore eyes the result. Anyway, much better today.

Interesting there was an article in the paper that people have been reading the weather predictions wrong

Ie. If it says Chance of Rain: 70% Predicted fall: 4-15mm it doesn't mean there's a 70% chance of 4-15mm.

70% chance of literally any rain, 50% chance of 4 or more ml, 25% chance of 15 or more ml

Absolutely Tim.

Like today for example in my hood.

The BOM said there was a 70% chance it would rain. And if it rains, we could get 6-20 mil. .

Nice heavy fall of rain and some hail to boot. Outside, for the first time in probably a month, there is no smoke.

Mrs PJ showed me footage on her phone from the Australian Wildlife Park at Somersby.

It was a Faceplant video, flash flooding. They had to close the park today.

I saw video of the animal handlers pushing back alligators with a broom. The water level in the alligators pond rose so quickly the gators were swimming over the fences.

I saw it..UNBELIEVEABLE !

Yeah we have had a good soak over the last 2
days,
Wasn’t as heavy as the peninsular where I work, so it actually did some good. It just hit hard and flashed off down there, like you saw at the reptile park.

I thought it was funny when ALP got blamed for the “Scotty from marketing” nickname, and everyone came out correcting him that it was Betoota

There were 'Scotty's from marketing' everywhere in Australia before and now Scomo comes in and steals that from them as well. It's because he's a Sharks supporter, isn't it?
