Why do you support the Raiders

Post by philgrahamsgirl »

I'm bored nobodys on-line nothing to do and I always wonder why people choose to support there teams.
Maybe its because you were born in Canberra, or the first match you watched on tv was a Raiders game.
What's the reason for your obsessive Raiders support today?

Well I picked it up from my Dad, who has been following the Raiders since their inception.

I've followed them since I was 8!
Dave Furner and Jason Croker been huge inspirations.
I just went along to some of the old Super League matches, and watched a few games and kind of got hooked.

I don't know about it been the greatest City, will judge in June!

Started supporting them in 1993 as a nine year old. Liked the attacking footy they played, drew me to them the most. Got really in behind them in 1994. Probably would be supporting the Warriors if I hadn't started watching footy before 1995, so its lucky I did. Ruben Wiki was my favourite player since 1994, and losing him was definately one of the sadest moments of my life. Another recent favourite was Jamaal Lolesi, who also moved on. Luke Davico was also tops. Struggling to get motivated over the start of the season, seems like no one I identify with the lime is there apart from Croker.

Started supporting the Seattle Sonics in the same season, and have continued to support them over the same period. Seattle are currently 28-11 and in 3rd spot in the Western Conference. Having their best season since 1997-98!!!!!

I started supporting the Raiders in 1988, saw them on some highlights on tv and that was it for me. 1989 GF is still one of the best days of my life. Ricky Stuart is my favourite player ever, I spent hours at rugby training practising passing after watching Stuart play.

After they booted my team from the comp (Norths, in case nobody had guessed by now) I got the **** with the NRL and stopped watching it and picked up on the Wigan warriors instead, Living in canberra, a mate asked me to go along for his birthday, must have been about 2001-02 and i started getting into it, i hated myself for it, but it was great to see guys from my town running around the park and giving it their all. 3 years later, My bears gear shares my room with a whole lot of raiders stuff, i still have a soft spot for the bears, but the raiders are from my town and theyare my team. Today I follow them all over NSW and I'm thinking of heading to brizzy and Melbourne away matches aswell because I have a better job.

People who knew me back then would drop dead if they saw me wearing the green jersey I wear all the time!
