Really excited to watch this match this weekend. Expecting us to have a big win. Such a jacked up reserve grade team

Excuse my ignorance - why isn't Kris named in the lineup, yet Sam, Starling, and Aekins are?

I'm a bit rusty as to how teams who run their own reserve grade sides manage availability between reserves and first grade, and/or when they play immediately prior to first grade. Is it normal for someone like Sammy to only play half a game, in order to keep him fresh enough should one of the first string halves go down? Is that how we used to do it when we had a reserve grade side?

If they're not named for NSW Cup, it is a signal that they'll be held in reserve for first grade. Given the new policy of playing "all three grades" at the same venue (two grades in our case), the clubs' options for playing a player on the NRL extended bench for half a game (or more) in NSW Cup just before the first grade game are now greater. (Sam Williams did that in Round 1.)

In some respects, the "old days" are also less relevant, given that we can only have two on the reserves list 24 hours out.

Things can vary depending on which day the games are on... that's why last week Sam Williams and Harley Smith-Shields were not named in the Rd 2 NSW Cup team and were always going to go to Kogarah as the NrL fresh reserves (with both held out of the NSW Cup).

So Kris won't play at all this weekend if he doesn't get a late call-up for NRL?

It's not ruled out... if the coach decides to put players back into NSW Cup that he doesn't need. If he's held in reserve by the NRL coach, no. That's what would have happened last week, for Sam Williams and HSS, even if the NSW Cup game had gone ahead on Saturday. Ricky had them in the sheds as fresh reserves at Kogarah on Sunday.

So what's the deadline to put someone back into NSW Cup?

I assume that means Kris will play then. Otherwise it's a bit of a kick in the teeth to go from starting centre in FG to not playing at all, regardless of the circumstance.

Yeah, I don't understand why he wouldn't be named in reggies and those other guys are then... sort it the **** out, GE!

I’m not aware of any deadline, other than the one hour deadline. It is common for unneeded players for NRL to drop back to NSW Cup. The final team must be named an hour before kick off.

Having now checked the NSWRL operations manual, that’s correct. Clubs must lodge a team list by 5pm on Teamlist Tuesday and then must lodge the final team list no later than one hour before kick off. The starting 13 must start, if not, it is counted as an interchange.

Makes it even more challenging when you name 4 forwards on your first grade bench.

With Nami dropping back a starting pack of
8. Guler
10. Lui
13. Horsburgh

Is going to be hard to top.

I don’t imagine too many second grade teams have run with middle forwards of that quality. Some of the NRL teams don’t match that quality up front.

Jeeze that reserve team would wipe the floor of the bottom 4 teams in the NRL, even more.

Starling out of the early game either he is injured or he is going to play in firsts. Not sure about the balance of the side if he does play in the main game Kris and Starling on the bench would leave them a bit light unless Kris was going to play in 2nd row.

Lui and CHN playing NSW Cup.

Starling is out of NSW Cup.

I wonder if he will be playing FG... he is still in the 19.

3rd min TRY MOUNTIES to fullback Declan Casey. Raiders make an error near the try line... huge break from Watson Heleta... TRY in the space of one set. They go 100 metres. No conversion.

8th min TRY MOUNTIES to Falakiko Manu. Former Raider Lachlan Lewis calling the shots for Mounties... and the Raiders defence has been just awful. No intention in tackles. This team isn’t threatening anyone in first grade at present. Converted Aaron Schoupp.
