60th min TRY EELS to Jakob Arthur. A bit of helter skelter attack on the last... and the Raiders can’t defend the offloads. Jordan Rankin converts. It’s a pretty average performance from the Raiders in this game.

77th min TRY RAIDERS to Brad Schneider! That’s the match winner! He converts his own try! The Raiders played poorly for much of the match, but had enough in reserve for the late comeback.

2020 Round 6 NSW Cup Wrap
The Canberra Raiders produced a good comeback win against the Parramatta Eels in Round 6 of the NSW Cup at Canberra Stadium.
The Raiders were mostly outplayed by the Eels for the first 60 minutes. Canberra went to the half time break trailing 16-12 - with a double from Corey Harawira-Naera keeping the Raiders in the game. The scoreline probably didn't reflect the dominance of the Eels, with Harawira-Naera's second try coming moments before the half time siren sounded. The Eels went further ahead in the 60th minute, when half Jakob Arthur crossed - giving the visitors a 10 point lead.
But the Raiders stormed home in the final quarter. Darby Medlyn and Matt Frawley scored tries in the space of three minutes - taking a 24-22 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining. Half Brad Schneider sealed the game for Canberra in the final few minutes of the game with his own four pointer.
The Raiders ended with a 51 per cent share of possession in the match - with the Raiders completing at 76 per cent (Eels 73 per cent). The errors were close to level (Raiders 11, Eels 10), while penalties and set restarts were close to level too. The Raiders ended with an the advantage in the attacking statistics, producing more running metres (1514-1301), tackle breaks (31-14) and metres per set (46-39). Line breaks ended up level. The Eels had to make slightly more tackles (308-295), but missed twice as many as the Raiders. The translated into an effective tackle rate of 92 per cent for the Raiders, and 88 per cent for Eels. The Eels produced more kicking metres (514-384) from fewer kicks (14-17).
Raiders forward Harry Rushton was put on report for a dangerous tackle.
Corey Horsburgh (210), Dunamis Lui (128) and Corey Harawira-Naera (118) topped the running metres in the forwards, while Toby Marks (149), Matt Timoko (139) and Adam Cook (117) broke the 100 metres gained mark in the backs. Harry Rushton (40), Corey Horsburgh (30) and Corey Harawira-Naera (27) topped the tackle count for the Raiders. Harawira-Naera made eight tackle breaks and was man of the match for mine. Both he and Horsburgh made a case for recall to first grade.
The Raiders have moved up to fourth place on the ladder and have the bye - and a guaranteed two competition points - in Round 7.

This week: The Raiders host the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Raiders Belconnen in Round 8. The Rabbitohs are down the bottom of the ladder having won just one match so far in 2021. They are coming off a 38-20 loss to the Parramatta Eels at Ringrose Park on Saturday afternoon. The Rabbitohs led 16-12 at half time, but the Eels finished strongly, scoring four tries in a row in the space of 20 minutes. Rabbitohs centre Tautau Moga was sent off late in the game.
The Rabbitohs have a LLWLL record in their past five games, with their only victory coming over Mounties (24-22). The Raiders have a 3 and 2 record to start the year, but they have not been able to put two wins together. They have a WLWLW form line. Much will depend on the team line ups, but the Raiders will be warm favourites to win.
Team news: Semi Valemei (hamstring) returns from injury on the wing, with Elijah Anderson switching to the other flank. Albert Hopoate (shoulder) is on the sidelines until Round 11-13. Toby Marks moves into the centres to partner Matt Timoko. Sam Williams (ribs) returns at half back, meaning Brad Schneider drops to the bench. Sia Soliola will start at prop and Leo Thompson in the second row - with Corey Horsburgh and Corey Harawira-Naera promoted to first grade last week.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
To be honest by far the best players were Sam Williams, Lui and Soliola.
Neither Tomoko or Cook did anything which made me think they are likely to get a first grade call up anytime soon.
Harry Rushton does look a good prospect though.

AT A GLANCE:
Last round: The Canberra Raiders suffered a four point loss to the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Kippax last Saturday. They went to an early 6-0 after just two minutes, after Sam Williams set up second rower Harry Rushton for a try. The Rabbitohs quickly replied through Troy Dargan, but a 40/20 from Sam Williams in the 13th minute set up a four pointer for Raiders winger Manase Kaho - giving the home team a 12-6 lead.
Three tries in the space of seven minutes - to winger Steven Marsters, back rower Trent Peoples and prop Tevita Taumoepenu - produced a 20-12 lead for the Rabbitohs. And South Sydney went further into the lead in the 51st minute, when Marsters crossed for his second. The Raiders then fought back with a quick double to Sam Williams. A flick pass from half Brad Schneider put Williams across the line in the 57th minute. And he was at it again just five minutes later, following a Brigham Moeakiola kick ahead for four more points. That reduced the gap to just four points, with Raiders trailing 26-22. But the Raiders could not score again, despite a late opportunity created by Schneider.
Errors from the Raiders proved costly (18, Rabbitohs 10) and their low completion rate (64 per cent, Rabbitohs 77 per cent) saw the Rabbitohs post a 56 per cent possession share. That translated into six minutes more with the ball for South Sydney. The Rabbitohs won the metres gained (1541-1356) - but both teams made five line breaks and the Raiders made more tackle breaks (27-19) and offloads (15-10). The Raiders were forced to do more tackling (345-267), but the Rabbitohs were a bit loose in defence. South Sydney missed more tackles (27-19) and posted more ineffective tackles (25-25).
Sam Williams was the best for the Raiders, not only scoring two tries, but setting up two others. Sia Soliola (146), Leo Thompson (140), Kai O'Donnell (120) and Dunamis Lui (114) broke the 100 metres gained mark in the forwards, while Adam Cook ran for 146 metres with the ball in the backs. Harry Rushton (41), Sia Soliola (28) and Kai O'Donnell (27) topped the tackle count for Canberra.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS: Raiders v Rabbitohs: https://www.nswrl.com.au/news/2021/05/0 ... s-round-8/
This week: The Raiders travel to Wagga for a clash with the Newcastle Knights in Round 9. The Knights are coming off back to back losses - against the Panthers (19-6) and Bears (34-18). The Raiders have been unable to produce back to back wins in 2021 - but, given the pattern so far, perhaps this will be the week for a win.
Season record: Raiders 3 and 3 (5th, +20)
Knights 3 and 4 (8th, -23)
Form: Raiders LWLWL
Knights WWWLL
Attacking record: Raiders 27, Knights 21 points scored per match
Defensive record: Raiders 24, Knights 25 points conceded per match
Team news: Brigham Moeakiola has retained his place on one wing, after being a late inclusion in the starting team last week. Elijah Anderson comes in on the other wing for Manase Kaho, who drops to the reserves list. Brad Schneider has been named at halfback, with Sam Williams on standby for George Williams in the NRL squad. Ryan James has been included at starting prop in place of Sia Soliola.
Last week Kai O'Donnell made a late switch from hooker to the second row, with Adrian Trevilyan promoted into the starting team at dummy half. This week, O'Donnell is back in the No. 9 spot, with Trevilyan on the bench. Darby Medlyn also comes back into the starting team in the second row, with Leo Thompson retaining his position at lock. Ata Mariota has been included on the bench.

This week, O'Donnell is back in the No. 9 spot, with Trevilyan on the bench. Darby Medlyn also comes back into the starting team in the second row, with Leo Thompson retaining his position at lock. Ata Mariota has been included on the bench.
