Rushton playing up front this week. Even good so far
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Very scrappy game in the conditions. Still 4-4.
8 mins to half time.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Kaho makes a break and drops it cold. Has been that sort of a half. 4-4 4 to go.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Half time.
Dragons 4 Raiders 4.
Very tough conditions and the game reflected that.
But with the wind behind us in the second half, that is a good score line for us.

Try to the Dragons. No 19 Pellow (5/8) intercepts Schneider’s pass and runs 80m to score under the posts.
I must say if anyone is expecting Schneider to be our first grade half next year, he has a long way to go. Watching him today Frawley is by far the dominant half.

Dragons 10 Raiders 4. 23 to go. Game stopped whilst Hudson Young having his back worked on.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Try to Raiders Ryan James pushed through to score. He has played all 68 mins to now and then goes off. He does look a class above at this level. Schnieder converts.
10-10. 22 to go.
10-10. 22 to go.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Try Dragons. #19 Pellow beats some pretty poor defence and goes in with 6 to go. We have looked by far the better side all second half but can’t turn it into points.
#20 Stewart misses conversion
Dragons 14 Raiders 10 4 to go

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
And that is it.
Final score
Dragons 14
Raiders 10.
Very disappointing performance. We just can’t seem to get it done with this team.
Two weeks off now.

Did Harley Smith-Shields get a run?
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Pleasure. Sometimes I wonder whether I should bother but when we are away and I am probably one of the few on here at the game it is good to hear people appreciate the updates. I certainly don’t have all the lines ready to cut and paste like GE does so my stuff is pretty rough but hopefully gives people a picture.BlackpoolRaider wrote: ↑June 19, 2021, 4:47 pm Thanks for the updates - a lifeline during matches for us here in England

Why does GE give away the final score in a post before the updates even start?
Kindof ruins the whole thread when you're trying to catch up later.

I'm not whinging about the updates, I'm whinging about GE rendering the updates completely pointless by giving the score away in the Teams lineup post!

I dont really have the time to sit down and watch them go around even when they're on Kayo... So i can honestly say your updates are one of the things i most appreciate on the site.

2020 Round 15 NSW Cup Wrap
The Canberra Raiders suffered a disappointing 14-10 loss to the St George Illawarra Dragons in Round 15 of the NSW Cup. It was a match played in extremely windy conditions. The Dragons were on the scoreboard early when a Tony Pellow kick to the corner could not be defused by Raiders winger Manase Kaho - and his opposite Sam McCann was on the spot to plant the ball. Kaho made up for that in the 15th minute when he crossed in the corner, the result of a good shift to the left set in motion by Matt Frawley. The teams went to the break all tied up at 4-4.
The Dragons went ahead eight minutes into the second half, when five eighth Pellow intercepted a Brad Schneider pass - and ran 80 metres to score under the posts. Raiders prop Ryan James charged over the line in the 57th minute, with three or four Dragons hanging onto him. The Schneider conversion saw the scores level up again, at 10 apiece. Both teams had opportunities in the final stages. Harley Smith-Shields made a break and put a grubber into the in goal, but couldn't quite get the try. But Pellow was in action again with five minutes remaining - producing the match winner.
The Dragons had a 51 per cent possession share, but both teams completed 31 sets. The Raiders had the opportunity to win. They made more runs (170-155), running metres (1637-1479), post contact metres (626-503), kick return metres (179-169), metres per set (39-38), tackle breaks (48-21), line breaks (4-0), offloads (9-5) and forced line drop outs (3-2). The Dragons missed more tackles (48-21) and produced more ineffective tackles (16-8). The Raiders had a 92 per cent tackle efficiency rate, compared with 84 per cent for the Dragons. The Dragons conceded more penalties (6-3), while set restarts were level (3-3). Those are numbers that would normally win you a game. However crucial errors (Raiders 16, Dragons 10) proved the difference.
Hudson Young (163), Ryan James (159), Harry Rushton (148) and Kai O'Donnell (125) topped the running metres in the forwards, while Caleb Aekins (187), Albert Hopoate (120) and Manase Kaho (109) broke the 100 metres gained mark in the backs. Kai O'Donnell (43) and Ryan James (40) topped the tackle count for the Raiders. Ryan James was the clear stats leader for the Raiders.
The Raiders have dropped to eighth place on the ladder. The Raiders have a negative points differential (-6), but three teams above them on the ladder are more in the red (Bears -17, Knights -23 and Jets -70). The Raiders have a bye in Round 16, meaning they will have a three week break before their next game - against Mounties at Western Sydney Stadium in Round 17.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
As has been pointed out, he played right centre in the first half and then came off at half time for Harley Smith-Shields to come on and didn't get another run. To be honest, he really didn't do much in the first half. Got caught out of position for their first try. Hardly touched the ball in attack.
Sadly, I don't know where his position is. He has completely lost his nerve at full back, you can't have a full back who won't catch the ball. I was such a great believer in him but he has had an awful season. I just hope he can turn it around.
I have fears for all three of the Townsville trio. Schnieder does do some nice things but if we want him to be a first grader he needs to be taking charge of these games and he doesn't take any of the big plays - that is left to Frawley who clearly is in his last year as a full time professional player. Trevilyan has played some good minutes but gave us next to no impact on Saturday when it was really set up for someone with a bit of spark because their defence had done a power of work in the second half as we had the wind behind us.
We should have won easily but didn't. Story of our year in all grades.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Presumably NSW Cup is considered community sport so therefore is off next week? We had the bye regardless.

NSW Cup games to be cancelled for two weeks
The NSWRL would like to advise most Major and Community Competitions across the Greater Sydney Region (Sydney, Central Coast, Wollongong, Blue Mountains and Shellharbour areas) will be cancelled for the next two weeks in line with the current NSW Public Health Order (to 9 July) to deal with the public health risk of the recent COVID-19 outbreak.
This small suspension in competitions under the current “Stay at Home” orders will see all clubs involved in affected Major Competition matches receiving one point for a draw (COVID draw). The Major Competitions involved include Rounds 16 (3-4 July) and 17 (10-11 July) of the NSW Cup, Jersey Flegg Cup, Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield.

Looks like postponed in the third link above is not the right word… the next two weeks are cancelled and there will be COVID “draws” declared: https://www.nswrl.com.au/news/2021/06/2 ... p-to-date/
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Not only this weekends game cancelled, but also next weeks game has been cancelled too. No games before 24 July. NSWRL have said they will have a full week of training before resuming games.
Our match this week v Mounties (before Bulldogs v Roosters) and the game next week v Penrith (before Raiders v Sharks) were both due to be on Foxtel so we miss out on those.
One saving grace is I assume that our players not in the bubble are still able to train and presumably play local Canberra Raiders Cup during this time. Clubs in Sydney can't do that.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Actually when I look again, we have another bye on the weekend of 24 July so unless they change the fixture we don't play again until 31 July.
I do note that in Rounds 19 and 20, all teams have a bye in one of those weeks so hopefully they will use that spare weekend to get one of the rounds back.

NSW Cup cancelled for an additional week due to COVID
The NSWRL would like to advise most Major and Community Competitions across the Greater Sydney Region (Sydney, Central Coast, Wollongong, Blue Mountains and Shellharbour areas) will be suspended for another week in line with the latest NSW Public Health Order (to 16 July) to deal with the public health risk from the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Major Competitions involved include Rounds 16 (3-4 July), 17 (10-11 July) and 18 (17-18 July) of NSW Cup, Jersey Flegg Cup, Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield. This means the Raiders scheduled NSW Cup matches against Mounties at Western Sydney Stadium (Round 17) and the Panthers at Canberra Stadium (Round 18) will not take place and will be declared as COVID draws.

So very, very sad.
