No, but you probably wouldn’t watch anyway seeing it is the same time as the first half of first grade.

If it was on at the same time as the second half of first grade - you would watch!!

MATCH REPORT: Eels late charge to slip past Raiders

Parramatta Eels have recorded consecutive wins defeating Canberra Raiders 26-24 after scoring in the final seconds at Ringrose Park. Only conversions separated the two sides as Parramatta led 22-20 with 12 minutes left on the clock.

Canberra again wrestled back the lead, as Savage desperately burrowed his way over the white stripe, scoring his hat-trick and giving Canberra a two-point lead. With the last roll of the dice, Parramatta scrambled and through slick passing crossed in the corner with Michael Oldfield planting the ball just inside the field of play.

The other teams acted to "quarantine" their top 30 squads... while the Eels had already failed to in Round 9. They put special procedures in place to qualify enough players to enable them to field an NRL side and travel to Brisbane. Presumably, the others were left free to play NSW Cup in Sydney. I'm assuming that they think that protocols are going to be relaxed by next week.

Obviously a Hatty on debut suggests a fair game from savage but I’d be interested to hear how he handled the physical step up in the contest

AT A GLANCE:

Last round: A two point loss for the Raiders... for the second week in a row. The Raiders went to a 24-22 lead at Ringrose Park when debutant Xavier Savage scored his third try of the afternoon in the 75th minute. Sadly, however, former Raiders back Michael Oldfield scored a match winning try for the Eels at the death. Final scoreline: 26-24 in favour of Parramatta. The Eels led 12-10 at half time, with Savage scoring both of the Green Machine's tries in the opening forty minutes. Raiders winger Manase Kaho scored a double in the space of five minutes in the second half. Both teams scored five tries, with goal kicking ultimately proving the difference.

Almost every attacking statistic was just about even, but the Raiders produced more line breaks (5-3) and offloads (10-4). The Eels posted more kicking metres (582 from 20 kicks, compared with 388 from 18 kicks for the Raiders) and got two forced line drop outs (Raiders one). The Raiders had the better effective tackle rate (92 per cent, compared with 89 per cent for the Eels). That was due to 17 ineffective tackles from the Eels (Raiders eight), with missed tackles almost level.

Leo Thompson (143) and debutant Trey Mooney (127) were the only two Raiders forwards to break 100 metres gained. Xavier Savage (156) and Manase Kaho (141) topped the metres gained in the backs. Halves Matt Frawley and Brad Schneider each posted two try assists. Kai O'Donnell (37), Harry Rushton (37), Leo Thompson (30) and Siliva Havili (30) topped the tackle count for Canberra.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS: Raiders v Eels: https://www.nswrl.com.au/news/2021/05/2 ... -round-10/

This week: The Raiders have fallen to sixth place on the competition ladder and now travel to the traditional home of the Western Suburbs Magpies, Lidcombe Oval, in Round 11. The second placed Magpies are on a seven game winning streak, and are coming off a 36-16 win over the Bears at North Sydney Oval last Thursday night. The only teams that they have lost to so far this season are the Raiders (32-18) at Canberra Stadium in Round 1 and the Bears (24-16) at Campbelltown in Round 2. The Raiders are on a three game losing streak. All the season statistics are pointing to a Magpies victory on Saturday. Hopefully the injection of some key players from the SG Ball premiership winning Raiders team will again add some youthful exuberance - and might prove the difference for the Green Machine.

Season record: Raiders 3 and 5 (6th, +16)
Magpies 7 and 2 (2nd, +134)
Form: Raiders LWLLL
Magpies WWWWW
Attacking record: Raiders 26, Magpies 34 points scored per match
Defensive record: Raiders 24, Magpies 19 points conceded per match

Team news: Xavier Savage has been shifted from the wing to fullback, with Elijah Anderson returning to the team in the No. 5 jersey. Adam Cook takes over at halfback, with both Sam Williams and Brad Schneider named in first grade this week. Schneider will be making his NRL debut. Clay Webb will start in the second row, with Darby Medlyn dropping to the bench and Harry Rushton shifting to lock.

Clearly they want him to get his hands on the ball as much as possible. I expect first grade is less than a month away.

When you consider our starting props this year have included Dunamis Lui, Ryan James, Sia Soliola, Emre Guler and Corey Horsburgh, out depth is being tested with Leo Thompson and Ata Mariota starting front row.

Looks like they were a bit unlucky to lose with a couple of those Eels tries coming off mishandled bombs and bad bounces.

That is not unlucky off bombs, that is a full back that has just forgotten how to play. I have said on here numerous times how much I rate Adam Cook, he has looked all class to me.

But his last three games have been downright embarrassing. He hasn’t been able to get near a bomb, he is frozen every time. I see he has been picked at half back tomorrow, I just hope that he can find some confidence, because I watch those highlights and I see a young guys career disintegrating before our eyes.

It's a real shame because he's got some tools to work with. Personally I think if he's making grade it's with another 5kg and a 6 on the back so maybe the move to the halves will be a silver lining.

Certainty interesting Savage is playing at fullback. He didn’t play there for his SG Ball side, though he seemed solid under the high ball and with metres coming out of his own end. Might be the plan to get him on the ball more.

Magpies make it eight in a row

Western Suburbs Magpies have extended their winning run to eight in a row with a 36-22 win over Canberra Raiders at Lidcombe Oval.

With the likes of Shawn Blore, Jock Madden, Michael Chee Kam and Jake Simpkin all backing up from their respective NRL commitments on Friday, coach Ben Gardiner's side proved too good for the visitors despite their continued efforts.

Gee those highlights are a worry. Exactly the same issues as first grade, just such flimsy defence up the middle. Because it is only a few highlights, we can’t see the lead up, but most of those tries should never have been conceded.

To be fair half their team were playing NRL yesterday.
