Re: 2021 NSW Cup
I think the injury was just speculation but you'd have to think he could have squeezed in after a couple of omissions, so injury seems like a good bet.
I don't know where you fit him in at full strength. Trevilyan maybe heads back to the lower grade and Cook is the bench Utility?
I expect us not to re-sign Aekins next year and Cook becomes the fulltime backup fullback.
Although this year if CNK does go down we could just as easily so Simonsson or Rapana switch to fullback and the edge back in form goes into top grade eg Kris or HSS.

No seriously, thank you Makavelli for pointing that out, even if I do feel a bit of a fool now!!
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Gee Tom Starling had a big game. In 73 mins he had his hands on the ball 77 times and made 41 tackles whilst running 135 metres with the ball.

A few people have suggested that Aekins is just a full in. I am not sure I agree with that, I rate him.zim wrote: ↑March 16, 2021, 5:32 pm I think the injury was just speculation but you'd have to think he could have squeezed in after a couple of omissions, so injury seems like a good bet.

We really do have an extra 6 players in our back 5 that could do a job. Aekins, Hopoate, Smith-Shields, Timoko, Valemei and Cook have all played first grade. Which ones can make the step up will be interesting to see.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Next year we'll need to make a choice. Whether to keep developing Cook who's probably here in 2022 (club offer) or retain Aekins.
Given how natural Cook is as a ball player I'd be leaning that way.
I thought Hopoate looked real promising. Would like to hold on to him next season if we can.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
I know this thread is about NSW Cup, but often there are a lot of questions about streaming games. If you are also into Qld Cup, they are going to stream one game each Saturday (normally 2.40pm Qld time) and one each Sunday (normally 2.10pm Qld time) on Kayo starting from this Saturday.
Hopefully we will one day get to the stage where every NSW Cup / Qld Cup game is streamed somewhere.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Gee that is risky betting. Betting on reserve grade premiers is a real lottery. So much can change with lists. We have seen Newtown win the comp from 7th and 8th in recent times.
Use a dart board, that is as good at predicting that grade.

Suspect it has something to do with the weather...
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Raiders Facebook page has confirmed the NSW Cup game today is off.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
There is a spare weekend. On the weekend of Magic round there is a game between Norths and Wests on the Thursday night obviously to cover that slot for Foxtel, but everyone else has the bye. I suspect any games washed out this weekend will be played then.

Amateur hour. Why can’t it be played at Netstrata on Sunday ?

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
There is a Jersey Flegg match still scheduled there as the warm up... but that could get postponed too, to preserve the surface. Today’s Flegg game is off, as is one tomorrow, by the looks.
The other alternative would have been to transfer it to Canberra earlier in the week. Not raining here at all.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Mounties are playing Penrith right now at BankWest which will be the third game in three days here with the NRL to follow immediately
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
The Newcastle Newtown game was also cancelled from Friday but it has been moved to Sunday at PointsBet Stadium.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Today's FC vs Victory game was called off because of the condition of Netstrata. Happy to see no one getting on that ground until we do.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
I promise you if the Mounties v Panthers game wasn’t on tv it wouldn’t be being played.
I am at the ground and it is bucketing down. Surface is superb but puddles are starting to form.
The A League and W League games that were scheduled for Kogarah tonight are off.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
BTW Looking at the condition of HE Laybutt Field, where they’re playing their third game of the day... the Raiders NSW Cup game could easily have been played there. It’s in absolute superb condition, as if it hadn’t been raining. It is a regular NSW Cup venue for the Blacktown Sea Eagles. It apparently has drainage channels a metre or two apart, right down the field. It looks a bit brown and bare at times, but it sure handled today’s conditions with ease.

AT A GLANCE:
This week: The Canberra Raiders' Round 2 match against the Parramatta Eels was postponed on Saturday, after a deluge hit Sydney. Two NSW Cup games took place last weekend - but Canberra has remained in third place on the ladder, on points differential. The Raiders now face their former NSW Cup affiliate, Mounties, at Canberra Stadium on Saturday - in what might be a bit of a grudge match. Mt Pritchard defected to the Canterbury Bulldogs in 2020, after an eight year partnership with the Raiders. Saturday's match will be a warm up for the NRL match between the Raiders and Warriors.
The sixth placed Mounties are coming off a 28-8 loss to the Panthers last Saturday at Western Sydney Stadium. Mounties led 8-0 after 12 minutes, scoring the first two tries of the game. But the Panthers then piled on 28 unanswered points. Mounties have a 1 and 1 record to start the season, after beating the Knights in Round 1. The Raiders produced a good 32-18 win over the Western Suburbs Magpies in Round 1, after a rusty first half.
The Raiders and Mounties have never previously faced each other in NSW Cup - as Mounties' affiliation with the Raiders was the reason for their elevation to the NSW Cup in 2012.
Team changes: The Raiders' backline is basically unchanged from the team that defeated the Magpies in Round 1 - but wingers Semi Valemei and Albert Hopoate have switched positions. Emre Guler and Corey Horsburgh will be the starting props, with Keaton Walkington-Meads dropping to the reserves list. Kai O'Donnell comes into the second row for Harry Rushton. Leo Thompson replaces Caleb Esera on the bench. Misi Tapa joins the reserves list.
