Adam Taylor returns for second stint as coach of Queanbeyan Kangaroos in Canberra Raiders Cup

Adam Taylor admits he has unfinished business at the Queanbeyan Kangaroos, after signing on to replace Aaron Gorrell as head coach for next season.

The 40-year-old played a key role in reviving the Kangaroos who failed to win a single match in 2005 and 2006. In three seasons as captain-coach, he steered the club back to the finals, before departing at the end of 2009 to join the Blues.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos club statement

After a couple of weeks, the new Football Committee have appointed our new coaches for season 2021.

Adam (Arty) Taylor has been appointed to the role of first grade coach. Troy Whiley takes over as reserve grade, while Alex Hildyard will coach Under 19s (players permitting). We would to congratulate them on their appointments and we look forward to working with them all in season 2021. The women’s league tag coach will be announced in the near future.

Mitch, Tyler and Nick Cornish link with Young

Young have brought in a new trio of brothers boasting NRL experience. After attracting the Picker brothers to the club this season, next year the Cherrypickers will line up with Mitch, Tyler and Nick Cornish. Veterans Joe Picker and Mick Dodson won't play again. However coach Nick Hall hasn't given up hopes of Mick and Ben Picker sticking around.

"I was looking to wind down the footy side of things but Nick was going to be moving out that way and my priority was to play with my two younger brothers so they made the decision to sign there and I followed them really," Mitch Cornish said.

Goulburn City Bulldogs name Tyson Greenwood and Jesse Martin as co-coaches for 2021 season

The Goulburn Bulldogs have a new moniker and team logo, but not too different. In 2021 they will be known as the Goulburn City Bulldogs, after "moving back into the community as an independent club".

Between 2008 and 2019, the Bulldogs were backed by the Goulburn Workers licensed club, and known as the Goulburn Workers Bulldogs. A new committee was put in place in November and was initially planning on renaming the club as the Goulburn District Rugby League.

The club has announced that Tyson Greenwood and utility Jesse Martin will be the coaches for the "inaugural season".

Tyson Greenwood has played with the Bulldogs at lock and in the second row for a number of years and represented Monaro in the NSW Country Championships.

Jesse Martin, who can play in the back row and at hooker, planned to join his twin brother Matt at the Bulldogs in 2020, before the pandemic led to the cancellation of the Canberra Raiders Cup last year. The Bulldogs did not participate in the scaled back CRRL Cup last season.

The Martin brothers began their football careers at the Queanbeyan Blues. Jesse represented the Canberra Raiders at junior level, before captaining the Manly Sea Eagles to a National Youth Competition premiership in 2017. He then spent a couple of years playing at NSW Cup level with the Bulldogs.

Goulburn City Bulldogs coaching line up for 2021

First grade - Tyson Greenwood and Jesse Martin
Reserve grade - Michael Campton-Smith
Under 19’s - Shane Mccallum
Women’s open tackle - Wayne Blackwell
Ladies League tag - Vaughan Winnel and Sophie Broadhead

Grassroots teams to benefit from former Canberra Raiders facilities at Bruce Oval

The NSWRL is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) which will expose grassroots players to the high-performance sporting facilities around Bruce Oval that had formerly been home to the Canberra Raiders.

Belconnen United Sharks senior club and representative teams from Monaro have already indicated they will use it and it will also be home to a Disability Trust program for Score Raiders, which teaches participants the skills and fundamentals of touch football.
