We’re underway in Harold Matthews. Eels kick off, Raiders with the first set.

Tough draw for the Tarsha Gale Cup girls, conceding two tries in the final five minutes, one just before full time. It had looked like they were on track for their second win of the year.

13th min TRY EELS to lock Myles Martin under the posts. Converted Ethan Sanders. Eels have had the better of possession and territory in the early stages, the Raiders had to crack at some stage.

Eels 6-0

Very warm at Seiffert this afternoon, especially in the sun. They take an early drinks break.

Raiders kick off goes dead and they force a line drop out. That was needed.

16th min TRY RAIDERS to fullback Samuel Gash running wide. They take advantage of the forced line drop out... and a repeat set in the red zone. No conversion.

34th min TRY EELS to half Ethan Sanders. It’s off the back of a Raiders dropped bomb on the own goal line. The Ellis score, first play off the scrum. Sanders converts his own try.

16 mins remaining. Still 18-8 at the drinks break. Too many errors from the Raiders, but the Eels are falling into that trap too. No doubt very hot out on the field, and the ball would be greasy.

50th min TRY EELS to Ethan Sanders. That’s his second for the day. He charged down a Raiders kick, regathered and ran 70 metres to score. Too much possession turned over from the Raiders. Sanders can’t convert his own try.

7th min TRY EELS to winger and former Raider Sione Tapuosi. He looked like he stepped on the sideline, but the touch judge said no. He was just a bit to big for the Raiders defenders to handle, and he fended them away. Five eighth Josh Chappell converts from out wide.

9th min TRY EELS to winger Caleb Coroneos in the eastern corner... and they’ve started on fire. The Raiders are missing some talent, with the likes of Caleb Esera watching on the sideline. Esera and Clay Webb have been promoted to NSW Cup this week. Top squad hooker Tom Starling also watching in the stands. No conversion from the sideline.

21st min TRY EELS to half Keahlan Bray in the eastern corner. The Raiders dropped the ball on the second tackle in the lead up to the try... and they could not defend their error. No conversion. This is certainly the worst half of football for the Raiders in this grade, this season.

AT A GLANCE: The Canberra Raiders Tarsha Gale side drew, 16 all, with the Parramatta Eels on Saturday at Seiffert Oval. The Raiders led 6-4 at half time, with half Makayla Morris scoring a converted try for the Green Machine. Tries to centre Valasi Asomua and fullback Klaudia Osztenkovics in the space of five minutes, saw the Raiders take a 16-4 lead with 15 minutes remaining. The match seemed to be in their keeping, but Canberra conceded two tries in the final five minutes of the game, with the Eels snatching the draw right on full time.

The Raiders remain in seventh place on the ladder with a 1 and 4 record - plus the draw - to their name. But Canberra is now three competition points away from a top six spot - and they need to win both of their remaining games if they're to have any hope of playing finals football. They now meet the fourth placed Dragons in Round 7 at Mascot. The Dragons have a 2 and 3 record - bagging their second win of the year, 48-8, against the Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy at the Central Coast last Saturday. The only previous encounter between the Raiders and Dragons in this competition saw the Sydney team run out winners, 56-14, in 2019.

14. Elijah Porter 15. Oliver Townsend 16. Hussein Anani 17. Matthew Alhazim

AT A GLANCE: The Canberra Raiders have lost all six matches of the season in Harold Matthews - one of only two teams yet to get a win. Last Saturday, they lost 28-8 to the Parramatta Eels at Seiffert Oval. Canberra trailed by just four at half time - after fullback Samuel Gash and centre Siamani Leuluai scored first half tries for the Green Machine. But the Eels dominated in the second half, with halfback Ethan Sanders producing a hat trick. The Raiders are anchored to the bottom of the ladder, and are out of the running for the finals. In Round 7, they head to Sydney for a clash with the 12th placed Dragons - a team with just one win to their name in 2021. The Dragons are coming off a 24-10 loss to the Central Coast Roosters. The Raiders have won three of the past four matches against the Dragons, including the last match-up, 20-8, in Round 2 of 2020 at Kippax.

SG Ball

Canberra Raiders

1. Jack Sandford 2. Joseph Delle 3. Deakin Bright 4. Xavier Savage 5. Joshua Pokoney 6. Mitchell Spencer 7. Sione Moala 8. Kane Smith 9. Toby Thorburn 10. Loghan Lewis 11. Noah Saddler 12. Joshua Billing 13. Blake Martin

10. Adam Arkley 14. Jacob Young 17. Jonathon Afeaki 25. Epeli Sukanaivalu

18. Burt Tukala 19. Terence Patolo

AT A GLANCE: The Canberra Raiders SG Ball team lost their first match of the season on Saturday, with the Parramatta Eels producing a 47-24 victory at Seiffert Oval. The Raiders line up was disrupted, with the promotion of Clay Webb and Caleb Esera to NSW Cup. They also finished a match, played in very hot conditions, short on troops. The Raiders were always on the back foot after Parramatta scored three tries in the opening 10 minutes - and the visitors went on to score a total of nine tries.

The Raiders are still on top of the competition ladder, but have been joined on 10 competition points by the Roosters. The Raiders have two games and a bye remaining. They face the 13th placed Dragons in Sydney in Round 7 - a team that has won just once so far this year. That victory for the Dragons, a 32-24 win over the Victoria Thunderbolts, came just last Saturday. The Raiders then meet the Roosters in Round 9, a match which could decide the minor premiership. But first the Raiders need to topple the Dragons. The Dragons have won two of the past three matches against the Raiders in this grade, including the the last encounter, 24-10, in 2019.
