Raiders recruitment guru’s latest coup

Raiders recruitment guru Peter Mulholland has done it again, snaring one of the best centre prospects in New Zealand.

Leo Thompson, a strongly-built centre from Wellington Hurricanes and Napier Boys High School, has been so impressive in the pre-season that he has been elevated to the Canberra full-time squad. The youngster has a twin brother, Tyrone, who plays hooker - and it wouldn't surprise to see the pair link up at the Raiders in coming years.

Huddersfield Giants youngster Ronan Michael on his way to Canberra Raiders

Huddersfield Giants player Ronan Michael, 19, will spend several weeks with the Canberra Raiders as part of the new joint Academy program the two clubs have created ahead of the 2020 season.

More players are expected to follow Michael, a rugby union convert who only started playing the 13-man code two years ago, in the coming days and weeks.

Sounds like a great kid. I am not sold on the future influx from the “UK Academy” scenario unless its a 2 way street and in the later divisions. Our boys should have the opportunity to go over there also if they need “development”. Just an opinion and not having a dig. i cant wait to watch Flegg again this year.

Canberra Raiders take on Irish talent, Ronan Michael for 2020

The Huddersfield Giants have confirmed 19 year old prop, Ronan Michael will join Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg for the 2020 season.

Huddersfield football manager, Andy Kelly, said: “The opportunity for Ronan to experience a full season at Canberra is a wonderful chance for him. He remains contracted to the Giants for 2021”

Canberra Raiders to play Jersey Flegg trial against St George Illawarra Dragons in Goulburn

The Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg team will play a trial match at Goulburn Arena against the St George Illawarra Dragons on Saturday 15 February at 6pm. It will be part of a double header, with the Goulburn Bulldogs first grade Canberra Raiders Cup team meeting the Fiji Central Falcons at 4pm.

The Canberra Raiders are about to unearth the latest Fijian freak - Gordon Whippy, an 18 year old who holds a Fijian swimming record of 2017 and won national medals in shot put and swam in the Oceanic Championships. Gordon Whippy has spent time this summer training with the Raiders' top squad, is capable of playing in almost any position and has a physique reminiscent of a young Sonny Bill Williams.

Peter does it once again, just been informed that young Sunshine Coast junior (Keaton Walkington-Meads) is flying in for trial.

This kid can play and has really trained the house down in the off season, big , strong, huge loss for Falcons should this kid sign with Canberra.

I’m lead to believe he is the brother of Jordan Meads (Junior Warriors) who was a pretty exciting player himself. Very excited to see this kid play in Camden he’s a beast.
