MATCH REPORT: Mounties break six game losing streak to maintain place in top eight
The Mounties have kept their finals footy campaign alive after defeating the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs 26-14 at HE Laybutt Field.
“We dug in and got the two points which was very pleasing,” Mounties hooker Tom Starling said. “We’ve been really good in patches the last few weeks, we’ve let ourselves down in certain periods. Today was a good 80- minute performance and that’s what we really need to get back on the horse and lead into the semi-finals.”

Re: 2019 Mounties
Just watching the Mounties' second half... Hingano threw out an arm in a tackle... comes off with his arm, using his jersey as a sling.
It's a dislocated shoulder... I feel sorry for the young bloke but I can't see him getting a new contract to be honest. Too injury prone and not enough shown on field.
Niko reportedly being rested this week because of an HIA last weekend.

Re: 2019 Mounties
Yeah didnt look good on the weekend. He looked heavy to me against the Warriors and seemed to struggle to get back in the line. First up though so expected. Not sure what will happen with him but your right.

Last match: The Mounties broke their six game losing streak on Sunday, winning 26-14 over the Canterbury Bulldogs at Blacktown's HE Laybutt Field. The Mt Pritchard outfit reversed the 52-22 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs in Round 11 - which was the start of Mounties' plunge from the top of the competition ladder.
Mounties started the scoring in the 10th minute, with Raiders Under 20s back, Harley Smith-Shields crossing in the corner - after a Jack Murchie charge down generated an opportunity. The men in black and yellow followed up with first half tries to Sebastian Kris and forward Jarrett Boland. Royce Hunt produced a terrific flick pass to set up the Boland try right on half time. There was some poor defence at times from Mounties in the first half, conceding two tries. But the "home" team went to the break with a 14-10 lead. The Raiders affiliate extended their lead to 16 points after tries to Hudson Young in the 52nd minute, and Tom Starling in the 67th - with the Bulldogs only scoring a consolation try to winger Jake Averillo just before full time.
Hooker Tom Starling was undoubtedly the man of the match (one try, 19 runs for 158 metres, 119 dummy half metres, one line break, one line break assist, one try assist and 40 tackles). Hudson Young and Royce Hunt stood out in the forwards, while Smith-Shields (one try, nine tackle breaks) impressed in the backs. Ata Hingano unfortunately left the field in the second half with a dislocated shoulder.
Tom Starling (40), Hudson Young (32), Dan Keir (27) and Jack Murchie (26) topped the tackle count for Mounties, while Starling (158), Hudson Young (157) and JJ Collins (149) topped the metres gained.
This week: Mounties have climbed one place on the competition ladder, to sixth - and they are now three competition points away from the fourth placed Panthers. This week, they face the 11th placed Newcastle Knights at Hunter Stadium.
The Knights had a 12-6 win over the Wentworthville Magpies at Western Sydney Stadium last Saturday. They led 12-0 at half time, and kept the Eels' feeder club scoreless until Tim Mannah crossed in the final minute... and then kicked the conversion. The Knights have had recent wins over the Panthers (30-22) and the Warriors (12-0), but have also suffered losses to the Western Suburbs Magpies (30-22) and the Bulldogs (12-8).
Prior to last weekend, Mounties had won just once in their previous nine matches, an 18-12 win over the Western Suburbs Magpies at Campbelltown Stadium in Round 13.
Mounties had been the No. 1 ranked attacking team for some time, but are now running second to the Dragons for most points scored. The Knights rank 12th in a 12 team competition in attack, but their defence rates inside the top three teams.
Season record: Mounties 9 and 9, 1 draw (6th, +56)
Knights 7 and 12, 1 draw (11th, -96)
Attack: Mounties 27 points, Knights 16 points scored per match
Mounties rank 2nd, Knights last
Defence: Mounties 24 points, Knights 21 points conceded per match
Mounties rank 10th, Knights 3rd
Form: Mounties: LLLLW
Knights: WLWLW

2018 Round 21 - Newcastle Knights 16 defeated Mounties 6 at Hunter Stadium
2018 Round 13 - Mounties 62 defeated Newcastle Knights 0 at Aubrey Keech Reserve
Head to head: Mounties 7, Knights
Mounties team changes: Dean Matterson has been named at five eighth in place of the injured Ato Hingano (dislocated shoulder). Luke Bateman returns at lock. Reuben Porter moves to starting prop, replacing Vincent Rennie, who drops back to the bench. Brendan O'Hagan has been brought back into the top squad on the bench that again includes Royce Hunt in No. 23.
Our tip: The Mounties have been waiting for some time for their fortunes to turn, and they finally got the monkey off their back on Sunday. Mounties have been significantly affected by injury and suspension - but prior to Sunday, only Brad Abbey remained on the sidelines. It looks like Ata Hingano (dislocated shoulder) might be re-joining Abbey in the injury ward after leaving the field in the second half in the clash with the Bulldogs. However, the squad is now relatively healthy. The Knights have the home ground advantage and the better recent form line - and there are some big names in the Newcastle line up. However, we will tip Mounties to win in this one. Mounties by six.

TRY MOUNTIES to Royce Hunt! Immense run... he reaches out and grounds it! Oops... not grounded on the replay, but it is awarded! Should definitely have been a no try. Andre Niko converts.

Last match: The Mounties made it two wins in a row on Saturday when they defeated the Newcastle Knights 36-14 at Hunter Stadium. It was a close contest in the first half, with the Mt Pritchard outfit going to the break with a narrrow 12-10 lead. But Mounties powered on in the second half, scoring four tries and conceding just one.
Mounties finished with a 56 per cent share of possession - and dominated the attacking statistics. They made more runs (169-135), running metres (1688-1251), post contact metres (642-348), kick return metres (171-11), line breaks (7-2) and tackle breaks (32-14). In defence, Mounties missed just 14 tackles (Knights 32) and made just nine ineffective tackles (Knights 12). Mounties had an effective tackle rate of over 91 per cent (Knights 88 per cent).
Royce Hunt, Jack Murchie, Emre Guler and JJ Collins all impressed in the forwards. Hunt and Murchie both scored tries, while Hunt made nine tackle breaks. Collins, Murchie and Guler all topped the 100 metres gained mark. All of the outside backs also contributed more than 100 metres with the ball in hand.
O'Hagan and Dean Matterson combined well in the halves, with Sam Williams in Melbourne with the Raiders and Ata Hingano injured. Matterson produced two try assists and three line break assists. O'Hagan scored a try and made three tackle breaks and a line break. Siliva Havili also performed well at starting hooker, with Ricky Stuart opting to give the Canberra Raiders benchie some good game time. He scored a try, made one line break and 119 metres with the ball, 63 from dummy half.
Siliva Havilii (28), Emre Guler (25) and Luke Bateman (24) topped the tackle count for Mounties, while JJ Collins (162), Michael Oldfield (129) and Reubenn Rennie (147) topped the metres gained.
This week: Mounties remain in sixth place on the competition ladder - but are still three competition points away from the fourth placed Panthers, with just two games left in the regular season. This week, they face the 12th placed Blacktown Sea Eagles at Canberra Stadium - one of three matches on the bill this Sunday.
The Sea Eagles suffered a 46-28 loss to the Wentworthville Magpies last Sunday at HE Laybutt Field. They trailed by only two points at half time, but conceded five tries to the Eels' feeder team in the second half. They have, however, had recent wins over the Western Suburbs Magpies (30-20), the Newtown Jets (26-24) and South Sydney Rabbitohs (30-22) - and only lost by four points to the North Sydney Bears in Round 18.
Mounties won just once in the nine matches between Round 11 and Round 20, an 18-12 win over the Western Suburbs Magpies at Campbelltown Stadium. However, they broke a six game losing streak two weeks ago against the Bulldogs, winning 26-14, and then backed that up against the Knights.
Mounties have regained their ranking as the No. 1 attacking team in the competition, while the Sea Eagles rank equal 10th. Mounties rank a lowly 10th for least points conceded - but the Sea Eagles rank dead last in defence.
Season record: Mounties 10 and 9, 1 draw (6th, +78)
Sea Eagles 5 and 14, 1 draw (12th, -159)
Attack: Mounties 27 points, Sea Eagles 20 points scored per match
Defence: Mounties 24 points, Sea Eagles 28 points conceded per match
Form: Mounties: LLLWW
Sea Eagles: WLWWL
Recent meetings:
2019 Round 7 - Mounties 44 defeated Blacktown Sea Eagles 22 at Brookvale Oval
2018 Round 19 - Mounties 22 defeated Blacktown Sea Eagles 14 at Aubrey Keech Reserve
2018 Round 4 - Mounties 26 defeated Blacktown Sea Eagles 6 at Brookvale Oval
Head to head: Mounties 5, Blacktown Sea Eagles 0
Mounties team changes: Emre Guler will start at prop, with Reuben Porter moving back to the second row. Jarrett Boland has been included on the bench.
Our tip: This is a match Mounties need to win if they're to remain any chance of an unlikely top four finish. There are only two matches remaining, with Mounties to face the fifth placed North Sydney Bears in the final round. Mounties would need to win both of their remaining games, while the Panthers would need to lose both of their games - against the Sea Eagles and Bears. Unlikely. Regardless, Mounties will need to just keep winning every week. The Sea Eagles' recent form is better than Mounties - so it is not going to be an easy task on Sunday. However, the men in black and yellow should have the firepower to win this one - with most of the players not required by the Raiders on hand and available at Canberra Stadium.

Re: 2019 Mounties
Welcome to our coverage of today's NSW Cup contest between Mounties and the Blacktown Sea Eagles! Kick off is at 1:40pm and we will have live scores in this thread from Canberra Stadium!
Jamie Soward's preview: Soward says: It's definitely a danger game for the Mounties having won games two in a row after losing six in a row. so you get the idea that they have got themselves into some form at the back end of the year. However, this Blacktown Workers side is a completely different side and if they had this team all year they could go close to winning it. I'm going to tip an upset and Blacktown to win by 2.
