I thought the refereeing was very ordinary today. Raiders lost the play the ball a few to many times also. Roosters very beatable come finals time.

The referee was very poor in the second half, in particular. The Raiders produced too many turnovers of possession in the second half, but the referee gifted a lot of momentum to the Roosters... and some it definitely not deserved.

Yes i did hear that carry on in the box also.
Agree easy turnover of ball and would hate to see the penalty count. We seemed to kick well into corners etc then piggy back them back to the other end through penalties or dropped ball etc.

Preview

Last week: The Canberra Raiders suffered a 28-16 loss to the Sydney Roosters at a very cold but sunny Seiffert Oval last Saturday. The Raiders led 16-6 at half time, but the Green Machine conceded too many penalties and turnovers of possession in the second half - allowing the Roosters to score 22 unanswered points after the break.

The Raiders were first to score in the 7th minute, when a kick ahead rebounded and was regathered by the Raiders - with fullback Manase Kaho backing up to give the home team an early 4-0 lead. The Roosters were gifted an opportunity in the 17th minute when Kaho knocked on in the red zone, undoing his good work to escape the in goal on a kick return. Soon after Roosters prop Tagiolupe Tivalu barged over under the posts, with the conversion from Zane Harris producing a 6-4 lead for the visitors.

The Raiders went back in front in the 27th minute when second rower Jordan Martin ran wide to score - with five eighth Jarrett Subloo's good work setting it up. They followed up five minutes later when hooker Kyle Patterson put the defence in two minds, before passing to centre Matt Timoko for the four pointer.

Sadly, that was the end of the scoring for the Green Machine, with the Roosters piling on four tries in the second half. The Raiders were their own worst enemies at times and found it difficult to get any territory or momentum - while the Roosters also proved to be well schooled in spoiling tactics.

This week: The Raiders remain in seventh place on the competition table - and they are one win away from a fourth placed Panthers outfit. This week, the Green Machine travels to Melbourne and will share the bill with the Raiders and the Storm as a warm up for the NRL fixture. Their opponents are the Storm's Under 20s outfit, the 12th placed Victoria Thunderbolts. Both sides are coming off losses.

The Thunderbolts suffered a huge 64-6 defeat at the hands of the third placed South Sydney Rabbitohs last weekend at Central Coast Stadium. The Rabbitohs scored 11 tries, with the match already over at half time, after the "home" team led 30-6. They have had one recent win against the Sea Eagles (20-10), but recently drew against the Bulldogs (18-18) and lost by just a point to the Bears (17-16).

The Raiders have been undefeated in four of their past five matches, but one of those matches included a 26 all draw against the Penrith Panthers. Other recent wins have come over the Wests Tigers (38-6) and Parramatta Eels (28-16).

Canberra now ranks fourth in the league in attack, while the Thunderbolts rank last. The Raiders are placed sixth for least points conceded - while the Victorian outfit ranks 12th.

Season record: Raiders 9 and 6, 2 draws (7th, +156)
Thunderbolts 3 and 11, 3 draws (12th, -317)

Form: Raiders: WWDWL
Thunderbolts: WLDWL

Attacking record: Raiders 28, Thunderbolts 11 points scored per match
Defensive record: Raiders 19, Thunderbolts 30 points conceded per match

Raiders record away: 6 and 2
Thunderbolts record at home: 1 and 5

Recent meetings:
2019 Round 1: Canberra Raiders 21 drew Victoria Thunderbolts 21 at Canberra Stadium.

Raiders team changes: The Raiders have named the same team that took to the field against the Sydney Roosters last week.

Our tip: Given the recent form lines, the Raiders will be favoured to win this contest. The Thunderbolts have won only three games this year. But we need to remember that these two teams fought out a 21 all draw in Round 1 this year at Canberra Stadium - and that the Thunderbolts have produced two other draws this season. While well beaten last week, Victoria has come pretty close to a win in two of their past five games - and won once. The Raiders will need to be on their mettle - and show they've learned from the second half last week. On the run to the finals, the Raiders can't afford to lose to the teams below them on the ladder. I can't see them doing that this week - and they should win well.

Jersey Flegg Preview: Raiders v Thunderbolts

The Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg side will be looking to close in on a finals berth when they face the Victoria Thunderbolts on Saturday afternoon.

“We really pride ourselves on our defence, and have done a lot of work to improve on that already,” said coach Ash Barnes. “We haven’t been happy with that the past couple of weeks, so we’ll look to keep improving on that.”

Yes he’s been injured, and Jackson Stuart is coming on and out of the team at the moment, depending on injuries.

Try Melb. No 9 Finau steps Medlyn and Martin up the middle far too easily and they are in under the posts.

Half Time 12-12

The first 10-15 mins we were all over them but pretty undisclipined after that. Silly penalties and weak defence let them back in. Thunderbolts are very quick and look to break the line every time.

If we stay patient in the second half I think we will be far too good.

As usual we can’t do it easily. #11 Reedy-Barrett goes over for Storm. Again we piggyback them and asleep at the wheel when they kick for touch and they steal extra metres.

He is a traditional steering and organising 7. Has an excellent kicking game. Needs a pre season and year in cup. Pretty handy goal kicker as well.

2019 Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg

Post by Ronny P »

Medlyn, Patterson, Timoko, Smith Sheilds, Westcott, Vilemi and Spencer are all longer term prospects from what i have seen. All need time. Other than Medlyn or Rorke before bad injury i dont see a Hudson Young or Horsborough in this team. I think the club is in a position to take some time with the above and mould them into long term players. Not sure how it all works with mounties etc but they do ALL need time in cup consistently while working with the likes of McFadden and co every week to specialise in there roles. Just my opinion.

Preview

Last week: The Canberra Raiders produced a 24-18 win over the Victoria Thunderbolts last Saturday at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium. The Raiders went to an early 12-0 lead, with tries to Jordan Martin and Harley Smith-Shields scoring in the opening 10 minutes. However, the Green Machine let the Victorian outfit back into the contest, with error and penalties giving the Thunderbolts opportunity. Tries to centre Uala Salia and hooker Haele Uha Finau saw the Thunderbolts draw level, 12-12 at the 20 minute mark.

The teams went to the break at 12 apiece, but the Raiders broke the deadlock four minutes into the second half. A couple of penalties piggybacked Canberra up the field, giving lock Darby Medly the chance to cross under the posts. The Green Machine went further ahead in the 58th minute, after a Jarrett Subloo kick was gathered by Jordan Martin. Martin then offloaded to Subloo, who was backing up for a great four pointer.

With less than 10 minutes remaining, the Raiders again invited the Thunderbolts back into the contest - with bench player Jacob Reedy-Bartlett scoring, reducing the gap to just six points. It set up a grandstand finish to the match, but the Raiders were ultimately able to hold on.

This week: The Raiders have moved up into sixth place on the competition table - and they are now just one competition point adrift of the third placed Rabbitohs and fourth placed Bulldogs.

There are only two rounds of the regular season remaining. This week, the Green Machine face the last placed Manly Sea Eagles at Canberra Stadium - one of the matches to be part of a triple header on Sunday. Then in the final game of the home and away fixtures, the Raiders meet the eighth placed Dragons. Meanwhile, four of the five teams above them play each other in the final two rounds. The Raiders' destiny is in their own hands. If they can win both games, they have every chance of forcing their way into the top four.

This week's opponent, the Sea Eagles, have won just two matches all season, and are on a seven game losing streak. In their last outing, they lost 30-12 to the Eels at HE Laybutt Stadium - and have also suffered big losses to the Warriors (46-6) and Wests Tigers (34-14) in recent matches. The Raiders have lost one match in their past five.

Canberra now ranks third in the league in attack, behind the Rabbitohs and the Knights, while the Sea Eagles rank 13th. The Raiders are placed fifth for least points conceded - while the Sea Eagles have the worst defensive record in the competition. The Raiders continue to creep up the ladder and the rankings.

Season record: Raiders 10 and 6, 2 draws (6th, +156)
Sea Eagles 2 and 16 (14th, -451)

Form: Raiders: WDWLW
Sea Eagles: LLLLL

Attacking record: Raiders 28, Sea Eagles 12 points scored per match
Defensive record: Raiders 19, Sea Eagles 37 points conceded per match

Raiders record at home: 3 and 4
Sea Eagles record at away: 1 and 8

Recent meetings:
2019 Round 7: Canberra Raiders 56 defeated Manly Sea Eagles 4 at HE Laybutt Field

Raiders team changes: Jackson Stuart takes over the No. 1 jersey, with Harley Smith Shields returning to his usual position at centre and Semi Valemi moving back to the wing. There are no other changes to the team that defeated the Thunderbolts last weekend.

Our tip: This game is a must win if the Green Machine is to make the top four and be a serious challenger in the finals. They can't afford to let the opposition back into the contest through lack of concentration as they did last week. But if they keep focussed and play to their potential, the Raiders should win and win well.

Jersey Flegg Match Preview: Raiders v Sea Eagles

The Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg side will look to claim back to back wins when they take on the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles on Sunday at Canberra Stadium.

"We try and emphasise the privilege they have playing at Canberra Stadium,” Barnes said. “Last weekend, we played before NRL, we supported them and after the game we went into the sheds and celebrated with them. The looks on the faces on the Under 20’s boys showed they loved every minute of the occasion."

Yeah I agree Ronny.

I am hopeful that before that Warriors game we get Mounties and / or Flegg finals. It would make sense for Fox to have the Mounties final.
