Any of Oldfield, Abbey, Guler or Williams able to go back for finals now the NRL team is finished?
The cutoff is at least 8 Intrust games or more Intrust than NRL. Guler and Abbey can go back, Oldfield misses by 1 game and Williams by 2.

If they're eligible, they should be playing... and not doing Mad Monday. Suspect they've just named the same team as last week as a bit of a smokescreen... or just easiest thing to do on a Tuesday.

If thats the case they should be locking those boys in early to mid next year on the rookie contracts! Medlyn is outstanding in the middle but has been out injured i think. Timoko super strong centre, Paterson dynamic hooker and Westcott just glueing it all together. Roache was good yesterday as well but i think he is more a fullback or lock in the making. Silky skills and loves to run. Just not the traditional half which i think the game is going back to. Future looks really bright if we can hold them. The next few weeks look pretty good also if thats the case with Horsborough, Kris and Ohagan potentially dropping back! Looks like some good early recruiting has been done so well done.

Congratulations to Mounties. To get through by one point in both grades where we would have been under dogs is a wonderful effort.

I thought Mounties would struggle after Coach Antonelli left. With a rookie coach in Ryan Carr who is around 30, losing a key player in Garvey, they have powered on. He sure seems to get the best out of the players under his control.

The Flegg side beating the Knights at home is just sensational. Knights have been the bench mark side this year.

2017 NSW Premiership Finals Week 2: Mounties preview

Image

Mounties produced two one point victories in Week 1 of the finals, with the NSW Premiership team avoiding elimination and progressing to a clash with the Newtown Jets in Week 2. The Jersey Fleggg outfit upset the minor premiers, the Newcastle Knights, at Hunter Stadium - and have progressed to a Preliminary Final in Week 3, earning this weekend off.

NSW Premiership: Mounties broke a five game losing streak against the New Zealand Warriors, just when it counted, winning 21-20 courtesy of a Tyler Cornish field goal. The scoring opened with a Corey Horsburgh intercept try in the 11th minute, the red headed half running 90 metres for the four pointer. The Warriors scored through Joseph Vuna in the 17th minute, with Mounties winger Tony Satini in the sin bin. But before Satini returned, Liam Knight crashed over under the posts to give Mounties a 12-6 lead. Sebastian Kris extended the lead with four minutes to the break, going over in the corner... giving Mounties a 16-6 half time advantage.

Mounties added to their lead, just two minutes into the second half, with Mitch Cahalane charging onto the ball and giving the men in black and yellow a 16 point break on the Warriors. But the New Zealand side was not finished, piling on three tries in the space of 16 minutes - and levelling the match, 20-20 with just under 10 minutes remaining. Tyler Cornish produced the winning field goal with five minutes remaining, the first one pointer of the year for Mounties - and despite their best efforts, the Warriors just could not match it in the final stages.

Liam Knight (one try, 17 runs for 176 metres, one line break, four tackle breaks, one offload, 37 tackles), Corey Horsbourgh (20 runs for 175 metres, four tackle breaks, two offloads, 44 tackles) and Brendan O'Hagan (one try, four runs for 108 metres, two tackle breaks, 15 tackles, 268 kicking metres) were among the best for Mounties. Horsburgh (44), Knight (37) and Makahesi Makatoa (34) topped the tackle count for Mounties. Knight (176m), Horsburgh (175m) and Taane Milne (137m) produced most metres gained.

This week's opponent, the Newtown Jets finished third, but have been forced into an elimination match against Mounties, after a narrow 28-26 loss to the the second placed Dragons last Sunday. The Jets finished the regular season with a 12 and eight record, with two draws, while Mounties ended up winning half their matches. Newtown has a LLWWL record in their past five matches, with defeats coming at the hand of the Panthers, Sea Eagles and Dragons.

The Jets had the better attacking and defensive record in the regular season. This year, the Jets averaged 28 points scored per match, compared with 24 for Mounties. Newtown has conceded an average 19 points per match, the Mounties 21. The two teams played in Round 10 at Aubrey Keech Reserve, with the Jets running out 34-20 winners. The re-match in Round 15 saw the Mounties turn the tables at Henson Park, winning 22-16.

Team changes: Mounties have named an almost unchanged team from the one that defeated the Warriors last Saturday. Sam Duggan has been named as starting hooker, with Joel Luani dropping back to the bench. There may be some late changes, given that players like Emre Guler and Brad Abbey, who are no longer required by the Raiders this year, would be eligible for the NSW Premiership finals. For the Jets, Bessie Aufaga-Toomaga replaces Matthew Evans on the right wing. Jesse Marschke has been included at five eighth, with Jack A Williams dropping out of the squad. Kurt Dillon will start at prop in place of Wesley Lolo, who drops to the bench. Matthew Jurd drops off the bench.

Our tip: It was great to see Mounties finally turn around their late season form against the Warriors, but it will be another big challenge this weekend when they meet the Jets. If Mounties can pick up some Raiders reinforcements, they could spring an upset. However, based on the team line ups that have been named, and given the form lines of the two teams, we'll have to go with the Jets in a close one. Jets by six.

10th min PENALTY GOAL MOUNTIES to Sitiveni Moceidreke. Mounties attack looking very disjointed. Luani at hooker is far too slow at dummy half. Moceidreke is back on the wing and Milne in the centres.

Brad Abbey certainly has an error in him. Couldn’t handle an awkward bounce from a Flanagan kick, Jets attack in the red zone.

Great run Taane Milne! But the set ends with a Guler offload ruled a knock on. Would have been a try otherwise.
