MATCH REPORT: Big first half sets up Mounties win
Mounties have taken the win over arch rivals the Wentworthville Magpies, registering a 34-24 victory at Henson Park.
For the opening match of the Intrust Super Premiership's Magic Weekend, Wentworthville had just one late inclusion: front-rower Siosaia Vave. Mounties, meanwhile, brought the likes of Sam Williams, Craig Garvey and Tony Satini into the starting line-up, with all three having a major impact on the game.

Re: 2018 Mounties
2017 NSW Premiership Round 12: Mounties preview
In Round 12, the Mounties NSW Premiership and Jersey Flegg teams both head to the foot of the mountains to meet the Penrith Panthers at Penrith Stadium.
NSW Premiership: Last week Mounties returned to the winners list, defeating the Wentworthville Magpies 34-24 at Henson Park. Mounties scored four tries in the first half, and led 22-0, before two quick tries early in the second half to Mitch Cahalane and Corey Horsburgh blew the scoreline out to 34-6. Wentworthville piled on three tries in the final 25 minutes, but it was a case of too little, too late for the Magpies.
Craig Garvey (13 runs for 101 metres gained, three try assists, three line breaks, 44 tackles), Emre Guler (13 runs for 129 metres gained, 44 post contact metres, one tackle breaks, one offload, 37 tackles) and Tony Satini (two tries, 13 runs for 159 metres gained, two line breaks, five tackle breaks, five tackles) were amongst the best for Mounties.
Sitiveni Moceidreke (164m), Tony Satini (159m) and Mikaele Ravalawa (155m) topped the metres gained for Mounties, while Craig Garvey (44), Jarrad Kennedy (39) and Emre Guler (37) topped the tackle count.
Mounties are again alone on top of the competition ladder, with this week's opponent, the Penrith Panthers, suffering an 18-10 loss to the Wests Magpies at North Sydney last week. The Magpies, Bulldogs and Panthers are all now two competition points adrift of Mounties - with the Panthers fourth on points differential. The Panthers have had a 6 and 4 start to the season, with just one fewer win than Mounties. The Panthers have a WLWWL record in their past five matches, while Mounties have recorded a WWWLW form line.
Mounties have averaged 28 points scored per match, compared with 25 for Penrith. The defensive records are much closer, with Mounties conceding an average 21 points per match, the Panthers 20. Mounties have a positive points differential of 76, second best in the league, while the Panthers sit on +46.
Team changes: Fullback Tyler Cornish was a late withdrawal last week, with Alofi Mataele coming into the team. This week winger Sitiveni Moceidreke has been named in the No. 1 jersey, with Mataele dropping to the bench. Michael Oldfield returns to the Mounties team at centre, with Tony Satini filling Moceidreke's vacant wing. Corey Horsburgh replaces Jack Murchie in the second row. Kalani Going has been named on the bench in the top 17, with Fabien Paletua Kiri and Jarret Boland the extra men on an extended bench.
For the Panthers, Caleb Aekins takes over from Tyrone May at fullback, with May on the extended bench for the Panthers' NRL clash with the Dragons. Ratu Tuisese replaces Aekins on the wing. Chad O'Donnell comes in at five eighth for Jarome Luai, with Luai another player on the Panthers' first grade extended bench. Oliver Clark has been named at starting prop, in place of Kaide Ellis, with Ellis... you guessed it... on the Panthers' first grade extended bench. Liam Martin and Reed Izzard come into the second row, in place of William Barnes and Thomas Eisenhuth. Andrew Saunders replaces Martin at lock. Eisenhuth is the final player on the extended first grade bench for the Panthers.
Our tip: This is another difficult assignment for Mounties, with the Panthers running out 36-22 winners at Aubrey Keech Reserve in Round 5. In addition, it is always tough for any visiting team to play at Penrith Stadium and come away with a win. But given recent form, we'll tip Mounties in a close one.
Jersey Flegg: Mounties suffered their third straight loss in Round 11, defeated by the Parramatta Eels 32-24 at Leichhardt Oval. Mounties have now dropped to seventh place on the ladder, with a 5 and 4 record so far this season. They have earned 10 competition points, along with the fifth placed Bulldogs and sixth placed Eels - and are now six competition points adrift of the ladder leading Newcastle Knights and Cronulla Sharks. Their opposition this week, the Panthers, are third on the ladder, with a 7 and 2 record this season. The Panthers won in their last start over the last placed Wests Tigers 32-6. The Panthers are on a three game winning streak.
The attacking record of the two teams is almost level, with the Panthers scoring just two more points in aggregate this season (20.5 points scored per match). However, the Panthers have a better defensive record, with Penrith averaging 17 points conceded per match, compared with 21 for Mounties.
Both team line ups are very settled. Mounties have named the same team that took the field against the Eels last week. For the Panthers, Mitch Revell replaces Jack Quinn at starting prop, with Quinn dropping to the bench.
Mounties defeated the Panthers in Round 5 at Aubrey Keech Reserve, 32-10. They came from behind to do it, keeping the Panthers scoreless for the last 50 minutes of the match. However, the Panthers are in much better recent form than Mounties and have some outstanding juniors. If Mounties were to beat Penrith at home, it would be an outstanding result... but we can't quite see it happening this week.

I'd assume so as well, but if you told me at the start of the year Hingano would be our bench hooker.....

Re: 2018 Mounties
I would love to see us poach Tyrone May. Both he and Maloney contracted until 2020, so not really a pathway for him there in the short term.

Quality player but in my opinion doesn’t solve many of our issues. If we are end up signing Sezer and replace Austin with May I would consider it a minor upgrade.

2017 NSW Premiership Round 13: Mounties preview
In Round 13, the Mounties NSW Premiership and Jersey Flegg teams will be hoping to turn around their fortunes when they meet the Newcastle Knights at Aubrey Keech Reserve on Saturday.
NSW Premiership: Last week, Mounties suffered a 34-14 loss to the Penrith Panthers, after trailing 18-8 at half time. Mounties were well in the match in the first 20 minutes, with tries to wingers Mikaele Ravalawa and Sitiveni Moceidreke - but Penrith then took complete control.
Makahesi Makatoa (12 runs for 133 metres gained, 48 post contact metres, 20 tackles), Emre Guler (11 runs for 104 metres gained, 47 post contact metres, two tackle breaks, one offload, 35 tackles), Sitiveni Moceidreke (one try, 13 runs for 128 metres gained, one line breaks, two tackle breaks) and Mikaele Ravalawa (one try, 12 runs for 111 metres gained, one line break, four tackle breaks, one offload, four tackles) were amongst the best for Mounties.
Makahesi Makatoa (133m), Sitiveni Moceidreke (128m), and Mikaele Ravalawa (111m) topped the metres gained for Mounties, while Craig Garvey (40), Charlie Gubb (36) and Emre Guler (35) topped the tackle count. Brad Abbey, Michael Oldfield and Sam Williams were all credited with a try assist.
The Panthers have now joined Mounties on 16 competition points, taking the competition lead from Mounties on points differential. Mounties’ opponent this week, Newcastle Knights, are at the foot of the ladder, with a 2 and 8 start to the season... with two draws also to their name. The Knights lost last week to the Dragons, 32-16, and have a LDWLL record in their past five matches. Mounties have recorded a WWLWL form line.
Mounties have a clear advantage in both attack and defence in this match. This season, Mt Pritchard has averaged 27 points scored per match, compared with 17 for Newcastle - and conceded an average 22 points per match, the Knights 29. Mounties have a positive points differential of 56, while the Knights sit on -140.
Team changes: For Mounties Brad Abbey takes back his familiar No. 1 jersey, with Ata Hingano joining Sam Williams in the halves. Tony Satini will partner Michael Oldfield in the centres, with Ed Murphy named to start in the second row. Corey Horsburgh drops back to the bench. Sam Duggan comes into the top 17 on the bench, with Kalani Going and Stefano Hala also named on an extended bench.
For the Knights, Brent Naden joins Matt Allwood in the centres, while Christian Hazzard replaces Jack Johns at five eighth. Tyrone Amey and Bobby Treacey are named as the starting props. Beau Fermor and Luke Yates move back into their regular positions, at second row and lock, respectively. Brodie Jones also comes into the second row - with backrowers Patrick Maautai and Zac Hosking dropping to the bench. There are two former Raiders in the Knights’ line up, Naden and Allwood, with former Canberra Raiders Cup player, Tori Freeman Quay also on the Knights’ extended bench.
Our tip: Mounties stumbled last week, but they should be far too strong for the Knights at home.
Jersey Flegg: Mounties suffered their fourth straight loss in Round 12, defeated by the Penrith Panthers 36-16. Mounties scored thee tries in the opening 30 minutes, but were then kept scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Mounties remain in seventh place on the ladder, with a 5 and 5 record so far this season. Their opposition this week, the Knights, are competition leaders, with a 9 and 1 record this season. Newcastle is on a four game winning streak, their only loss of the year coming in Round 6 against the Sharks. The Knights won in their last start over the Dragons 36-32.
The Knights have clearly better records in attack and defence this season. The Knights have averaged 31 points scored per match (20 for Mounties) and averaged just 17 points conceded (23 for Mounties).
Mounties have named the same team that took the field against the Panthers last week. For the Knights, Lachlan Farr replaces Gary Anderson on the wing, while Luke Huth and Henry-Siriah Fuimaono come onto the bench. Key Hopwood and Jack Cameron drop out of the top 17.
This will be a very difficult assignment for Mounties and it’s difficult to see anything other than a Newcastle win. Hopefully Mounties can spring a massive upset!

Re: 2018 Mounties
Not sure whats going on withthe flegg side. They signed the young half from Penrith Westcott who would still be the number one pick back at Penrith at 7. He must be injured or something as after watching them play against Penrith last week his patience direction and kicking game is exactly what Mounties need to allow the gun Ohagan to be at his best. Looking forward to this weeks game sgainst newcastle. Hopefully both grades can bounce back.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.
