Promising Mackay rugby league players Canberra bound

Two of Mackay's most promising rugby league players have headed to Canberra to trial for a Raiders' development squad at the AIS.

Five-eight Caleb Sinn and half-back Michael Hazard are in Canberra for a five-day training camp before lining up with the junior Canberra squad for a match against Newcastle Knights. It's the first time the two have been out of North Queensland.

Canberra Raiders junior representatives trials this Saturday

The Canberra Raiders face the Newcastle Knights in junior representative trials at Aubrey Keech Reserve this Saturday 20 January from 12 noon.

Extremely hot weather is forecast for western Sydney on Saturday, so come prepared for those conditions!

Don’t have scores from Saturday, but both grades reportedly finished around equal in terms of tries scored.

Next week, the Raiders junior representatives will play trials against the Manly Sea Eagles at Goulburn. Will let people know times when we have them.

The Canberra Raiders Harold Matthews and SG Ball squads will play trials tomorrow against the Manly Sea Eagles at Workers Arena, Goulburn tomorrow.

Welcome to our coverage of today’s junior representatives trials between the Canberra Raiders and Manly Sea Eagles at Goulburn. No team sheets for the trials, but we will have score updates.

Harold Matthews warming up now... kick off is at 10:30am. SG Ball kicks off at 12:00noon.

Kick off is running late... Sea Eagles not ready. Now they are praying. Raiders kick off in Harold Matthews. We are underway.

Sea Eagles nearly scores after two minutes, but the final pass is tipped forward. Sea Eagles have a very big team.

19 to go first period... Great defence from Canberra, chasing from behind to take down the Manly winger and knock the ball free legally. Saved a try.

Followed by a great break from the Raiders five eighth.

Just under 10 to go in the first period... some big tackles, lots of dropped ball, but still nil all. And some wild arms from the Sea Eagles as well.

6 to go in the first period and the Raiders are held up over the line. They are making good in roads out wide on the right.

4 to go first period TRY RAIDERS Great kick through, a bouncing rubber for the Raiders left centre/winger.

2 to go first period. Great break from the try scorer down the left wing... and some great passing, spectacular attack, but it breaks down at the end.

13 to go second period Extended break with a Manly player injured in a regulation tackle. He’s stretchered off.

12 to go second period TRY SEA EAGLES in the corne. Canberra’s defence has been very good, but Manly just got the overlap.

9 to go second period TRY SEA EAGLES to the Manly half back, took advantage off an offload from one of the big Manly forwards.

Sea Eagles let the kick off go dead... and now Canberra force a line drop out.
