Phil Charlie helping to establish young Canberra Raiders in the national capital

He’s a Canberra man with a big heart who looks after some of the Canberra Raiders finest young players. Phil Charlie plays an important role for the Raiders away from the field, looking after two of the Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg players in Charlie Rourke and Kyle Patterson.

Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley Cups

Post by greeneyed »

CRL launches Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley Cups

Two of the New South Wales Blues and Country Rugby League’s greatest players will inspire the next generation of talent from Regional New South Wales, with the CRL launching the Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley Cups today (Tuesday, 20 February) at Rugby League Central.

The Under-16s (Andrew Johns Cup) and Under-18s (Laurie Daley Cup) competitions will feature eleven teams taking the field in each age division, with eight of the eleven franchises currently linked with NRL clubs; with the aim of having all regions aligned by the start of the 2019 season.

This season will see the St George Illawarra Dragons, Penrith Panthers, Wests Tigers and Canberra Raiders form new partnerships with CRL franchises competing in the Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley Cups, with the Sydney Roosters continuing their support of the Central Coast Roosters.

The Penrith Panthers and Newcastle Knights will also enter sides into the new competitions, in addition to their existing partnerships with the Western Rams and Newcastle Region.

Surprised the Cowboys let Kyle Paterson go. Made QLD U18 last year. Probably was neck and neck with the Broncos gun hooker/lock Smoothy. One to watch.

Smoothy is a very good player. Was Patterson the reserve hooker who came on in Qld Under 18s last year.

From memory he was pretty good.

Fijian students secure one year contracts with Canberra Raiders

TWO Fiji secondary schools rugby league players have secured one-year contracts with the Canberra Raiders club in Australia. 2017 Marist Brothers High School's U19 captain Tiri Shaw and Ba Provincial School's Semi Valemei left the country yesterday.

"This is a mutual partnership between the Canberra Raiders and the players and we're grateful to our sponsors Vodafone for supporting these players," he said. "This is a one-year contract initially where the players will continue their education and undergo certain training to assist them before they become a full contracted player."
