Kiyan Shaw is heading to the Canberra Raiders
Exciting Wellington rugby league prospect 17 year old Kiyan Shaw will be heading to the Canberra Raiders next year.
"We selected Kiyan for his speed and his willingness to compete in attack and defence. Kiyan also did not shy away from the contact side of the game," Canberra Raiders' high performance manager Dave Hamilton said.
"He will be living with a family of one of the players and he is a great representative for Aboriginals and will have the support of the whole community. He likes the Raiders and because the club has a country feel it was always his first option,'' Kiyan's father Zeke said.

Canberra Raiders looking at NZ junior talent
Raw talent. That's the best way to describe Leicester Faingaanuku and Marvin Curry.
"Leicester is starting to attract some interest from the New Zealand under-16 coach who is pretty keen on him. I'm sure he'll be looking at him in Rotorua and if he stays fit then he could be in that side next year which would be the biggest achievement since Simon Mannering, really," said development officer Ryan Charles.
"Marvin has attracted some interest from the Canberra Raiders and they'll be looking at him as well, so it's a pretty massive opportunity for these two."

Raiders junior Sam Dobb drawing attention from rival NRL clubs
Is there nothing multi-talented rugby league forward and judo competitor Sam Dobb can't do. The prop from the Raiders' Harold Matthews Cup team is drawing interest from a couple of rival NRL clubs eager to secure his services. After a broken hand ruled him out of trials for the Raiders' SG Ball team, Dobb went on to play for West Belconnen with a small fracture in the semi-finals and grand finals of the local competition. Dobb remains keen to balance his commitments in rugby league and judo. Judo won't be on the program at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, but Dobb is seen as a long-term prospect for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Young stars make squads with Canberra Raiders
IN what started out as an announcement from Young High School that two of their students had been selected for a Canberra Raiders train-on squad, soon turned into five lads from the town making the cut.
Under 16s players Kye Tiedemann and Jake Baker from the school were named as part of the Raiders Harold Matthews Squad, while three others - Jayke Hogan and Matt Murray from Young High and Connor Brebner from Hennessy - were selected for the SG Ball (Under 18s) Squad.
“I was pretty surprised,” Baker said of his first time selection.
“It’s good to get into the system to experience a higher level of footy.”

Canberra Raiders interested in young NZ player Rory Ferguson
Just a year after learning how to play rugby league, Rory Ferguson is being compared to Simon Mannering.
Ferguson (16), who is from Milton but boards at John McGlashan College in Dunedin, captained the New Zealand under-16 team to a 32-26 win over Samoa's under-16 team in Whangarei on Saturday.
The second-rower starred in the curtainraiser to the Kiwis v Samoa Four Nations test, scoring two tries and being named man of the match.
Ferguson, also a talented rugby player for his school's First XV, had attracted attention from two or three NRL clubs, including the Warriors and Canberra Raiders, U16s coach Jeff Whittaker said.

Kyle makes the cut
Yass rugby league player Kyle Danilczak will head into the new year knowing he is on the brink of making the final Canberra Raiders Harold Matthews (under 16s) squad.
The Magpie trialled with 150 other hopefuls at Rugby League Park in Braddon two months ago, and playing lock, survived the first cut to a 34-man squad.
He was not alone, Trent Wilke from Yass, also bested more than 100 players to join Danilczak in the train-on squad.
Unfortunately when the axe was wielded again a week and a half ago, Wilke was one of the casualties. Danilczak on the other hand, breezed through to the current number of 25. There are 22 available positions in the final squad.

Here at Pepper Stadium for #HMATTS and #SGBall matches.
Referee for this #HMATTS game is Daniel Luttringer and Panthers in white have first usage of the ball.
40/20 from Tobias Westcott puts the Panthers in good attacking position.
9' TRY PANTHERS - Alexander Miles gets Penrith on the board for the first time in 2015, conversion Good, Panthers lead 6-0
17' TRY Panthers - Off the back of a Penalty Thomas Lofts scores down the left for the Panthers and he converts his own try, now 12-0
25' Panthers break down field but some inexperience costs them as they lose the ball in a one on one tackle
HALF TIME in #HMATTS - Panthers take a 12-0 lead to the break, been the dominant side on the park and should have a bigger lead
HALF TIME Panthers 12-0
Referee @DLutts91 calls time back on and it's play back on here at Pepper Stadium - Panthers lead 12-0
33' TRY Raiders - A bit of luck for Canberra with the try scorer looking held with all momentum stopped but referee doesnt call held
34' Conversion missed so the Panthers keep a 12-4 lead
38' Another try to the Raiders who have ALL the momentum and this time its converted so Panthers lead now 12-10
42' Panthers attack is pretty plain at the moment, nothing really doing and Raiders are dominating
54' TRY PANTHERS - Chase Taia scores under the posts and Thomas Lofts converts to give Penrith a handy 18-10 lead
57' Possibly a bit of karma for the Panthers after two bad penalty calls with the Raiders losing the ball and surely the game
FULL TIME at Pepper Stadium and the Panthers have won it 18-10 despite being on the wrong end of an 8-2 penalty count
FULL TIME

26' Nathan Cleary can't convert the try so the Raiders keep a 6-4 lead

Raiders defeat Panthers in SG Ball Round 1
The Canberra Raiders SG Ball side overcame a 10-6 deficit at halftime to overpower the Penrith Panthers at home in their first official match of 2015.
Penrith went within an inch of being crowned the 2014 SG Ball premiers, going down by four points to the Sydney Roosters.
One of those players is star five-eighth Nathan Cleary, son of NRL Coach Ivan, and Canberra did tremendously well in defence to nullify his attacking threat and also halt the momentum of Penrith’s monstrous forwards.
“I think an area that we were good in was our attitude to defence,” Coach Dean Souter said. “Our line speed was a key against their big pack.”

Re: 2015 Canberra Raiders Junior Representatives
Gee you look at those teams and you see just how big the Polynesian influence is on the game don't you.
Terrific opportunity for these kids to play just before a NRL match.

Re: 2015 Canberra Raiders Junior Representatives
That Cotric was a class above at 15-16 and still looks to be at that level. Is this his last year in SG Ball. I was away all last season so don't know how he went.greeneyed wrote: SG Ball highlights: http://www.nswrl.com.au/news/2015/02/17 ... fbryimYp9p (3.25 mark for Raiders V Panthers)
That blond haired half back threw some good balls but made some really bad attempts at tackling.
