Over the past twelve months, there has been a shift away from the old 'Residents' format in regards to selection, towards a more specific pathway that will bring through the next generation of NSW talent.
NSWRL Chief Executive, David Trodden, said the changes needed to be made to reflect the pathways being formalised by the organisation’s High Performance Unit.
“As a league, we are extremely proud of the role that our competitions, and in particular, the VB NSW Cup, play in the development of the game,” Mr Trodden said.
“The link between the VB NSW Cup and the NRL has been strengthened this year, while this fixture continues to be a strong development tool. Josh Reynolds played in this game only a few years ago and is now a mainstay of the VB Blues side. James Maloney is another graduate. Matt Moylan and Tyrone Peachey progressed through this match and played in the City Origin side this year

Hasn't Ahearn played more games in the Qld cup this year?

Yes, he has.
Re: Four Canberra Raiders named in NSW Residents
Hopefully they'll both lead NSW to victory and give Stuart something to consider.

Looks like the selectors think more of our Mounties players than Ricky does

Raiders halfback Mitch Cornish one of four Canberra players in NSW Residents team
Raiders halfback Mitch Cornish is one of four Canberra players selected in the NSW Residents team to face Queensland Residents next Wednesday night.
Cornish will be joined in the side by fullback Jack Ahearn, prop Mark Nicholls and second-rower Jake Foster for the match at Suncorp Stadium.
The game is a curtain-raiser to the third State of Origin match.
The quartet will go up against Raiders teammate Kurt Baptise, with the hooker winning selection in the Queensland Residents after strong form for Canberra's other feeder club, Souths Logan Magpies, in the Queensland Cup.

Re: Four Canberra Raiders named in NSW Residents
Anyone know if the QRL is streaming this game like the under 18s. I'm interested to see how Ahearn goes at something approaching first grade standard.

I'd like to see Ahearn given a run somewhere in the back line now that Wighton is out for a few weeks.
I can't see a reason for Allwood to be selected again.

Re: Four Canberra Raiders named in NSW Residents
Seriously its pointless games like this that can destroy seasons for players, who honestly cares about this game?
Imagine if our hooker or any of our other boys get season ending injuries in this curtain raiser game, scrap pointless games like this.

Pretty disappointing watching that interview with Jack now that we know he won't get a chance in first grade this year. Hopefully he's patient and has a strong finish to the season in NSW Cup.

City/country is a similar thing, its recognition for players who aren't quite at origin or international level but give everything week in week outTim W wrote:For **** sake.. I'd be happy if it was like fringe origin players, 2nd tier and a quality bush/city leaguer or 2VictorTheViking wrote:City/country is a similar thing, its recognition for players who aren't quite at origin or international level but give everything week in week outTim W wrote:For **** sake..
