MATCH REPORT: Mounties demolish North Sydney
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
Led by proud Indigenous player Jake Foster the Mounties have continued their charge towards the finals with an impressive 40-0 victory against the North Sydney Bears on their return to GIO Stadium this afternoon in Close the Gap Round.
Mosese Pangai bagged himself a hat-trick in the rout with the centre continually causing headaches for the Bears. After today’s result the side could sit as high as third on the NSW Cup ladder if results go their way this weekend because they boast a superior points differential to those around them.
A four try to nothing first half set up the win with the Bears unable to get anything going against an impressive Mounties outfit. Mounties opened the game in ominous fashion when talented Raiders youngster Jack Ahearn opened the scoring for the home side.
It opened the floodgates as Mosese Pangai, Joey Bond, and Reece Robinson all scored tries before half time.

Re: 2014 Mounties
Does anyone know if Cornish, McIllwrick, Tupou etc are able to play finals for Mounties once the Raiders season is over?
They'll go close to winning it if so.

Terry Campese set to play NSW Cup for Mounties this Saturday
Terry Campese’s top-grade career at Canberra appears to be over with the former Origin star dumped to the NSW Cup this weekend.
Campese hasn’t been named – but RLW can reveal he will play for the Raiders’ feeder club Mounties against Penrith on Saturday at Leichhardt Oval.
Canberra were hoping to keep Campese’s dropping a secret but RLW learned he had trained with Mounties yesterday.

Re: 2014 Mounties
I don't know why people are assuming his first grade career is over just because he's playing for Mounties...
I can't be the only one who thinks he still has a chance of recovering his form (however remote) while playing in the lower grades and fight for his spot in the first grade next year?

I don't like his chances. The decision to dump a captain isn't taken lightly and in Campo's case the decision won't likely be reversed.Aero wrote:I don't know why people are assuming his first grade career is over just because he's playing for Mounties...

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Re: 2014 Mounties
I'm not saying it's guaranteed that Campo will regain his form, I'm just saying it's a possibility. I'm all for giving the jersey to the player who's form warrants the jersey and Campo's current form does not warrant it.
We have him under contract for another season, so why not use him as whatever his 2015 form warrants him to be - if he's playing good, having him in the top grade, if his form is still bad, have him as depth playing for Mounties.
I think Campo's done enough for the club in the past for us not to say he'll never play 1st grade for the Raiders again. If he can get his form back and is playing better than the other available options, then no reason why not - but only if his form is better than other available options.

Raiders captain Terry Campese confirms he will play NSW Cup with Mounties
Canberra Raiders skipper Terry Campese has fulfilled his promise to fight on for his NRL career, confirming he will return from injury to play NSW Cup this weekend.
Campese has passed a fitness test on his injured abdominal muscle and has made himself available to play for Canberra's NSW Cup feeder team Mounties against Penrith at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday afternoon.
Campese has told Fairfax Media he plans to see out his final season at the Raiders next year and will play whatever grade his form warrants.

Good on Sticky for finally doing this. It would have been hard.
Good on Campo for having a positive attitude about it.

2014 Mounties
Doubt it
Found these on the tigers forum
a) A player will be eligible to play in the final series of matches in the competition in which he played the majority of or equal number of premiership games prior to the final series commencing.
OR
b) The player has participated in a minimum of eight (8) premiership games in that competition prior to the final series commencing.

Sam Williams was a potential gun half.RedRaider wrote:I agree GE. Cornish is a potential gun half we haven't had since the days when the Coach was filling the role. Doesn't appear to have the off field issues of others either. I remain puzzled, baffled, mystified and flabbergasted at his non-selection. If only the fans could be given a glimpse of 'the plan' for Cornish, it might explain all.

Re: 2014 Mounties
It will be great to see Campo run out for Mounties, but it should not be such a surprise. Too often all clubs - and particularly the Raiders - have rushed players back into first grade after injury rather than using reserve grade and Canberra has suffered more than most as a result. Getting Campo to play at Mounties will be a real test of his attitude (and, so far, he has said all the right things, at least) and will give him a chance to hopefully get his confidence back in a less intense environment. Who knows, he might even start pushing for a first grade spot some time next year. Regardless of the player involved, the idea of using reserve grade to ease injured players back is a real step forward. I just hope it's the start of a trend - not a one-off
