2014 VB NSW Cup draw released

Click here to see the draw

Match broadcasts which lead into NRL telecasts, an increase in games played as curtain raisers to NRL fixtures and a full home and away season are just some of the exciting aspects of the 2014 VB NSW Cup draw released today.

Over 40% of matches set down in the draw for the 2014 season will be played in conjunction with NRL and Holden Cup at NRL venues across New South Wales giving Club members and fans a greater opportunity to watch all of their favourite players at the one venue.

In 2014 there are two changes to the competing teams with the New Zealand Warriors and Penrith Panthers both entering VB NSW Cup sides in preference to the feeder team arrangements previously in place with the Auckland Vulcans and Windsor Wolves respectively.

Any signing at this stage has to be a plus, BUT, if its straight to Mounties then he is well down the list, esp. at fullback - Milford, RR, Ahearn and Cronin.

Looks like a handy player, good support runner and kick chase guy, but nothing great.

Gee guys would ya rather we don't sign him? I've seen him a bit in a cup and he seems to be one of those guys who finds himself in the right place right time, maybe luck maybe good instincts? He's signed with Mounties so I think it's a great thing

Clubs in Focus – Mounties

In the lead up to the 2014 VB NSW Cup season, we will shine the spotlight on all 13 competing teams to see how they are shaping up for the year ahead.

Today we take a look at Mounties.

Head Coach: Steve Antonelli
Home Ground: Aubrey Keech Reserve and GIO Stadium
Year Entered Competition: 2012
2013 Result: 10th - (10 wins and 14 losses)
2014 Key Signings (Canberra and Mounties): Lagi Setu (Melbourne Storm), Kyle O’Donnell (Penrith Panthers), Kurt Baptiste (Brisbane Broncos), Joe Bond (Brisbane Broncos) and Gus Aiga (Illawarra Cutters).

Having missed the VB NSW Cup finals in each of their first two seasons, Mounties will be hell bent on rectifying that in 2014.

And as they enter into their third season as a partner of the Canberra Raiders, Mounties may finally be ready to take that next step and make some noise come September.

Mounties are one of the strongest rugby league clubs in NSW, both on and off the park, and when you take their rich resources and combine them with that of the Raiders, there is plenty of reason for optimism if you are a fan of the club.

Despite Mt Pritchard’s geographical distance from Raiders HQ in the ACT being some 250km’s, Mounties head coach, Steve Antonelli, insists that this isn’t an issue and that the relationship could not be healthier.
