John Papalii cleared for West Belconnen Warriors' Raiders Cup elimination final
The West Belconnen Warriors have received a boost before Sunday's Canberra Raiders Cup elimination final, after NSW Country forward John Papalii was cleared at the judiciary.
Papalii is free to take his place against the Goulburn Workers Bulldogs after having no case to answer on Wednesday night for an elbow that he was sent off for in last weekend's 26-20 loss to the Queanbeyan Kangaroos.

Canberra Raiders Cup: Minor Semi-Final Preview
Goulburn Workers Bulldogs (3) v West Belconnen Warriors (4) on Sunday at 3:00pm at Goulburn Workers Arena
Well its business time now in the TTM Canberra Raiders Cup and for either Goulburn or West Belconnen, this Sunday could spell either the end of their 2014 campaign or another step on the road to premiership glory.
“It’s been a good achievement for us to make it through to the semi-finals but in saying that we set our goal at the start of the year to make the semi-finals and now that we’re here we don’t want to just be making up the numbers,” said Warriors fullback Joe Cramp, who was a part of last year’s wooden spoon outfit.

Magpies sign Canberra Raiders Cup coach
Pen has been put to paper. The Yass Magpies will be back in the Canberra Raiders Cup next year and John Hawke will be the first-grade coach.
The former Belconnen United Scholars head coach has agreed to a one-year deal with the Magpies, with a two-year option.
"The focus will be on developing the talent that is already here because the town wants to support their own."
In a major coup for the Magpies, Matt Britt will return to Walker Park for the 2015 season, leaving Belconnen to team up with his old coach.
Also on the coaching staff for next year is former Canberra Raider Matt Gafa, who has been enlisted as assistant coach for the first-grade side.

Jaxson Taylor turns to West Belconnen 'family' after inferno
West Belconnen player Jaxson Taylor was left with a sole pair of football boots when his house burnt down, but had his room mate not woken him, he may not have been here to tell the story.
It's the ''family environment'' the Warriors have rebuilt which helped put the pieces of his life back together.
After the late night inferno, Taylor felt he had nowhere to turn but the football club he joined this year from rugby union.
He turned up to play reserve grade the next day, after which the Warriors and opponent Goulburn raised nearly $1000 after the match to get him back on his feet.

Goulburn eliminate West Belconnen in Canberra Raiders Cup semi
Goulburn coach Mick Picker believes it ''would be silly'' if disciplinary action is taken after their 16-10 elimination final win ended in punches at Goulburn Workers Arena on Sunday.
Four players were sent off after the final siren when several players from both teams tussled after a high shot from Warriors forward John Papalii.
Papalii landed a couple of blows on Goulburn's Luke Turner, who coincidentally beat sacked Canberra Raider Blake Ferguson in his boxing debut late last year.
Papalii, Warriors teammate Bobby Roberts, Turner and Goulburn's Nathan Chappell were dismissed after a match played in a quagmire.

Bulldogs slog it out for sudden-death win
IT was grubby and it was gritty, but it was the sudden-death win the Bulldogs needed to earn themselves a spot in the preliminary final.
In horrendous, wet conditions they defeated the West Belconnen Warriors 16-10 at the Workers Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs will now take on the loser of this weekend’s preliminary between the Queanbeyan Blues and the Queanbeyan Roos for a place in the Canberra Raiders Cup grand-final.
Despite the cold and pouring rain, tension boiled, and on numerous occasions frustration resulted in punches. The culmination – an all-in brawl at the conclusion of the match that saw the referee sending off a total of four players.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos keen on up-ending Blues despite selection drama
IT IS a given that at least one Queanbeyan Canberra Raiders Cup side will make the grand final in two weeks' time, and the Kangaroos still believe it can be them after they take on the Blues at Seiffert Oval this Sunday.
The major semi-final will be the third Queanbeyan derby this year, but the most important one, with the winner going straight to the grand final.
They will play against either the Goulburn Workers Bulldogs, or the loser of Sunday's game, who will play Goulburn next weekend in the preliminary final.
But with both Queanbeyan clubs trying to get one up on the other this season, the rivalry is set to flare up yet again, with both sides knowing the game could go either way.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos hit with fine, player suspension for rude song
The Queanbeyan Kangaroos have been fined $1000 and their reserve-grade captain-coach Peter Hunt has been suspended for the rest of the season for singing the club's expletive-laden victory song in front of spectators.
While they are appealing the decision to the Country Rugby League, the Kangaroos have already paid the fine, clearing the way for their first-grade side to face the Queanbeyan Blues in Sunday's Canberra Raiders Cup major semi-final at Seiffert Oval.
The incident took place after the Kangaroos' reserve-grade team beat the Gungahlin Bulls in last Sunday's spiteful minor semi-final at Workers Arena in Goulburn.

Canberra Raiders Cup: Major Semi-Final
Queanbeyan Blues (1) v Queanbeyan Kangaroos (2) on Sunday at 3:00pm at Seiffert Oval
A Grand Final position is up for grabs this Sunday, when the top two teams of the regular season come head to head to decide who will be the first team into the decider.
Blues coach Simon Woolford said he expects another close encounter between the two teams this weekend, after the matches earlier this season showed the closeness in the two teams.
“We were a bit off to start the season and the Roos got the better of us in round two, but we showed our improvement with a good win later on in the season,” Woolford said. “It’s been a few weeks since we’ve played them so once again it’s a bit of an unknown for us and we’ll need to be at our best this weekend to beat them.”

Queanbeyan Roos replace offensive team song in time for major semi this weekend
Canberra's rugby league clubs face more fines, and match bans, if they continue to sing expletive-laden victory songs, after a directive issued by the Country Rugby League this week.
The Queanbeyan Kangaroos were fined $1000 after their reserve grade team sang an offensive victory song in front of spectators at Goulburn last weekend. Captain-coach Peter Hunt was suspended for the rest of the finals for leading the chant.
The Roos have submitted lyrics to a new "G-rated" victory song to the CRL for approval before Sunday's major semi-final against cross-town rivals the Queanbeyan Blues. The Blues, who had been using an almost identical song to the Roos, have warned their players not to sing at all if they win.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos want consistency in judiciary findings after reserve grade captain banned for team song
Queanbeyan Kangaroos hooker Jordan Macey says the rulings from the Canberra Region Rugby League judiciary are inconsistent, comparing the suspended sentences of two players guilty of striking to the season-ending ban for reserve-grade captain-coach Peter Hunt.
The Kangaroos will face arch rivals the Queanbeyan Blues at Seiffert Oval on Sunday in the Canberra Raiders Cup major semi-final, with a spot in the grand final up for grabs.
The loser will take on the Goulburn Bulldogs, which had Luke Turner and Nathan Chappell escape with four-game and two-game suspended suspensions respectively for their roles in a brawl in last week's 16-10 win against West Belconnen.

Queanbeyan Blues quartet back from the 'dark side' and ready for premiership tilt
Queanbeyan Blues coach Simon Woolford rates rugby union a gold mine for "untapped talent" and hopes the quartet he's lured back from the dark side will help erase last year's grand final heartache.
After long stints in rugby union, centre Tyler Stevens and prop Aaron McInnes returned to to league with the Blues last year. Winger Jake Knight and centre Tom Ruediger followed suit this season.
A premiership winner with Wests in rugby union, McInnes would love to add a rugby league title to his resume, at a club where he first played as a six-year-old.
The 33-year-old came agonisingly close in his first year back in the 13-man game last year, only to be denied by Queanbeyan Kangaroos in the grand final 17-16 in extra time.

Canberra Raiders Cup: Preliminary Final
Queanbeyan Kangaroos v Goulburn Workers Bulldogs on Sunday at 3:00pm at Seiffert Oval
The Queanbeyan Kangaroos and the Goulburn Workers Bulldogs will battle it out this Sunday afternoon to see which side progresses through to face the Queanbeyan Blues in the decider.
The Blues secured their place in the Grand Final after demolishing the Roos 43-10 last weekend, whilst the Bulldogs kept their title aspirations alive with a 16-10 victory over the West Belconnen Warriors a week prior.
The Roos, the 2013 premiers, were particularly disappointing last week however centre Daniel Watt says that the side is confident they can bounce back from the out of character loss.
“We let ourselves down last week against the Blues,” Watt said. “We were feeling really good in the sheds before the game but the Blues came out and played unbelievably well right from the start.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos reserve grade captain granted an appeal against song suspension
Queanbeyan Kangaroos reserve grade captain-coach Peter Hunt, who was banned for leading the team's expletive-laden victory song, could feature in the finals after being granted a new hearing.
The Country Rugby League has sanctioned the appeal and it will be held at Raiders Belconnen on Saturday.
If Hunt has his suspension overturned, he will be eligible to lead the Kangaroos into battle for Sunday's reserve grade preliminary final against the Queanbeyan Blues at Seiffert Oval.
The Kangaroos had their appeal approved after it was decided they didn't have sufficient notice of the charges against Hunt to mount a defence.

"I've nearly done it [retire] a few times, but I just enjoy playing and being around the boys," Dodson said.

Canberra Raiders Cup: Goulburn Bulldogs go through to the grand final
Goulburn Workers Bulldogs have secured a place in the 2014 TTM Canberra Raiders Cup Grand Final after toppling defending premiers the Queanbeyan Kangaroos 32-24 at Seiffert Oval.
With Goulburn juniors Jarrod Croker and Mitch Cornish watching on in the stands, the Bulldogs led from start to finish as they booked themselves into their first Grand Final since 2009, whilst the Kangaroos bowed out of the finals with successive losses.
Inspired by a two try performance by evergreen 38 year old prop forward Michael Dodson, the Goulburn forward pack dominated the finals-hardened Roos pack which enabled the Picker brothers – Ben at hooker and Mick at five-eighth – to steer the side home.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos miss Canberra Raiders Cup grand final
THIS time during the past four years, the Queanbeyan Kangaroos have been drowned in the sense of winning the Canberra Raiders Cup premiership, and have been overwhelmed by competition favouritism.
But this season there is a changed mood for the men from west Queanbeyan, after they missed the grand final for the first time since 2009, going down to the Goulburn Workers Bulldogs 32-22 in their preliminary final at Seiffert Oval last Sunday.
But Kangaroos coach Aaron Gorrell slammed some controversial refereeing decisions during the match against Goulburn, and said he was not so disappointed with the side given they had still had a good season to date.

Queanbeyan Kangaroo Jordan Macey wins Les McIntyre Medal
His team won't get a chance to defend its title in this Sunday's grand final, but Queanbeyan Kangaroo Jordan Macey received some consolation by streeting the field to win the Les McIntyre Medal on Monday night.
The five-eighth secured 24 votes to claim the Canberra Raiders Cup's highest individual honour, nine ahead of Goulburn hooker Ben Picker (15), with Woden's Tim Crome and Gungahlin's James Ulrick (13) in third.
Macey said he was "embarrassed" and surprised to win the medal by such a margin after missing two games mid season through injury.

Queanbeyan Blues reserves make grand final
THE Queanbeyan Blues reserve grade side will join their first grade elders in Canberra Raiders Cup grand final action at Seiffert Oval on Sunday, after taking out cross-town rivals the Kangaroos at the weekend.
They will be aiming for their first premiership since 2012, and will take a mountain of confidence into their grand final clash against the West Belconnen Warriors after taking out the Kangaroos 42-16 at home last Sunday.
West Belconnen are already one win up on the Blues this finals series, edging them out 24-22 in a nail-biting contest two weeks ago in the major semi-final, but the Blues lost just two games to finish on top of the ladder.

Canberra Raiders Cup: Grand Final Preview
Goulburn Workers Bulldogs and the Queanbeyan Blues will collide on Sunday at Seiffert Oval to battle out the 2014 TTM Canberra Raiders Cup Grand Final, with one side chasing a fairy tale and the other seeking redemption after last year’s heart break.
After being in and out of the finals since their last premiership in 2009, Goulburn has captivated the local public after their successful season under first year Captain-Coach Mick Picker.
“There’s certainly a big buzz around town that’s for sure,” Picker said. “It’s been a while since Goulburn has been in the finals full stop let alone the five years since we’ve been in a Grand Final.
“It’s been a really enjoyable year. I’ve never Captain-Coached a team before and a lot of our success is due to the players and officials around me and the club as a whole; they’re incredibly supportive.
