Young guns shine in shop window

For the past week scouts from all NRL clubs and player agents have converged on Canberra for the Australian Schools under-15s rugby league tournament.

Their target? The next Jack Wighton, the next Jarrod Croker or even the next Bradley Clyde, all of whom were discovered at this tournament.

But even though the players are 15 or under, it may be too late.

"By the time they get to that carnival their form is already established," said Sydney Roosters recruitment guru Peter O'Sullivan.

"Most of them would already have managers … so there's not too many left on the tree for plucking."

Queensland Maroon defeated NSW Combined High Schools 26-12 in Friday's final.

Nick Cotric was the only ACT representative chosen in the Australian Merit team, selected on the wing.

I saw the WA team walking through Civic, they appeared to be entirely Polynesian
