Canberra Raiders Holden Cup mid-season review

After going down in the National Youth Competition Grand Final last year, The Canberra Raiders Under 20s side went in to the 2013 wanting to go one better. So far they are well on track sitting at the top of the ladder after 11 rounds.

“The first game against Penrith we had 10 debutants and we were a pretty young team but the boys have responded really quickly to what we [the coaching staff] say,” NYC coach Mick Mantelli said. “They’re a pretty good bunch of kids, [Strength and Conditioning coach] Mark Henry has got them fit and all the players have worked hard on all the little individual stuff. Last year Andrew Dunemann did a good job with the key players like Mitch Cornish, Jack Ahearn and Tony Milford so you don’t really have to go through too much with them.”

How good is Mago? He gets in everything. I predict he will be the next one to step up.

This team has really surprised me this year so far.

With the high turn over especially in the forwards I thought we would struggle. But the forwards have stood up and with the strike power in the backline have laid the platform them to explode.

great side to watch. they still switch off during games in defence but there skill level gets them home on most occasions. it must be very frustrating at times to be their coach. keep it up boys...
