well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: 2013 Mounties
60th min TRY MOUNTIES to Matthew Allwood. Williams converts from out wide. That was a comical set of events in the lead up to the try. The kick off would not have gone 10m but the Vulcans produce an error, giving Mounties the ball...
Vulcans 42-24

Re: 2013 Mounties
67th min TRY MOUNTIES to Sam Williams. Williams passes into a Vulcans player, he knocks it back into the in goal and Williams dives on it! Williams misses the goal from good position.

Re: 2013 Mounties
76th min TRY VULCANS to Faitala Mariner, it's off a forward pass from Godinet, missed by the referee. Converted.
Vulcans 48-24
And that is the full time score.

I'll make another point of how poorly the coaching staff thought of him, he is a genuine goal kicker yet never considered in first grade, Dugan and Fergo **** were doing the goal kicking when Croker came off during the semi last year and could have cost us the game.
I'm shattered also.

I still hope he comes back, the Dragons potentially have a premiership winning spine in years to come with Dugan, Widdop, Williams and Rein.

MATCH REPORT: Mounties v Auckland
Saturday 31st August 2013
Mt Smart Stadium
Mounties have bowed out of this seasons VB NSW Cup finals race after a disappointing loss to the Auckland Vulcans at Mt Smart Stadium Auckland on Saturday.
Needing a win and results to go their way Mounties looked good in the opening stanza with David Far kas going close to scoring in the opening minutes however he was ruled to have placed a foot on the touchline before planting the ball and no try was ruled.
In the 6th min the Vulcans opened the scoring through a converted try to centre Siosiua Taukeiaho and the Vulcans led 6-0.
Mounties hit back in the 15th minute when Joe Picker was able to barge his way over after a great ball from Sam Williams and with the conversion it was 6-6.
Another piece of magic from Williams just four minutes later gave Mounties the lead when a great ball hit centre Matt Allwood on the chest and he dived over for a converted try and Mounties led 12-6.
Play then went end to end until the 28th minute when Herman Retzlaff crashed over from close range for the Vulcans and soon after Mounties found themselves behind on the scoreboard again when Nate Peteru found a hole close to the line and at half time the Vulcans led 18-12.
The break was not king to Mounties and in the 44th minute the Vulcans extended their lead scoring under the posts to push the score out to 24-12 and from the following sets the Vulcans went in again when half back Pita Godinet grubbered into the ingoal and found David Bhana to push the lead out to 30-12 after the conversion.
Mounties found themselves in further trouble in the 52nd minute when Raymond Mariner backed up a Bahanna break for a converted try and it was 36-12 to the Vulcans.
Mounties kept plugging away and in the 55th minute Sam Mataora barged over under the posts for a converted try to make it 36-18 however a hard as it came for Mounties it was easily given back to the Vulcans when Lolohea picked up a grubber from Mataora and raced 100m, the last ditch effort from Matt Allwood not enough to save the try and Auckland led 42-18.
In the 60th minute, Mounties went in again after the kickoff was handled by Auckland before it went 10m and from the tap Willams found an unmarked Matt Allwood who got his second of the game and with the conversion it was 42-24.
Sam Williams then scored for Mounties when he chased down a deflected kick and reached it before it went touch in goal however the conversion missed and the Vulcans led 42-28 before a dubious try in the dying minutes gifted the home team a final converted try and a final score of 48-28.
In the Ron Massey Cup a spirited Entrance team took the points in the final game of the season Mounties going down 24-14 at Aubrey Keech Reserve.
The visitors led the match from start to finish with Mounties performing well without being able to convert field position into points.
The Sydney Shield team also suffered a loss to first placed Belrose going down 52-22.
Next weeks games see the final round of the VB NSW Cup with Mounties taking on the West Tigers at Aubrey Keech Reserve on Saturday while Sydney Shield and Ron Massey Cup commence their finals series on Saturday, both teams taking on Wentworthville at Ringrose Park.

Re: 2013 Mounties
Interesting to see Eli Roberts in there. He's had a couple of good performances in the Holden Cup recently and I rate him highly. He's shown some really strong defence which is probably why we see him in NSW Cup, also probably since we have more talented young backs than we can use in the U20's.
I believe he's in his last year of U20's so he could be playing for a contract too.

It's Jarred, Matt's younger brother. He's played in the Holden Cup at times this year either in the centres or second row.VictorTheViking wrote:Is that actually jarred mcillwrick or matt?

Re: 2013 Mounties
Thanks GE! Typical Tigers. Hardly a crisis though, nice one Mole.
Re: 2013 Mounties
Looks to me that the Mounties are focussing on their Ron Massey cup team and their finals match today. Therefore they are topping up the NSW cup team with Raiders under 20s and playing everyone who is eligible in the Ron Massey cup.greeneyed wrote:Josh Baker is also a young player getting a chance with Mounties.

MATCH REPORT: Mounties V West Tigers
Saturday 7th September 2013
Aubrey Keech Reserve
Mounties have finished their VB NSW Cup season with a win over the West Tigers at Aubrey Keech Reserve on Saturday in what will be remembered as a season of missed opportunities.
With four Canberra Raiders under 20’s players on debut for Mounties it was going to be a tough task for the home team however Eli Roberts proved his talent in the 8th minute when he scored a scintillating try for Mounties to lead 6-0 after Jordan Ropana slotted the conversion.
From the kickoff Mounties dropped the ball which allowed the Tigers to score and make it 6-6 and from the there the game transcended into an arm wrestle until the final five minutes of the half when the Tigers poured on three converted tries to lead at the break 24-6.
Mounties had an uphill battle in the second half however they scored quickly after half time to make it 24-12 before a backline raid in the 50th minute saw Matt Allwood cross out wide to reduce the deficit to 24-16 and give the home team a sniff.
Several minutes later Mounties were in again after Jordan Ropana crossed for an unconverted try after nice lead up work from Ryan Carr and Matt Frawley and Reece Goldsmith regained the lead for Mounties soon after with a converted try for Mounties to lead 26-24.
Wests Tigers were not finished though and in the 67th minute they crossed to take back the lead 30-26 however it was Mounties day and with seven minutes remaining Shane Shackleton grabbed the ball 20 metres out from the line and charged through several defenders before a chip and chase saw him regather and crash over the line with several defenders desperately trying to stop him from scoring the winning try to no avail, and with the conversion Mounties led 32-30 at full time.
In the Ron Massey Cup Mounties took on Wentworthville in the first qualifying final at Ringrose Park.
Having beaten Wenty twice in the competition proper Mounties were full of confidence going into the game however it was Wenty who opened the scoring in the 3rd minute to lead 6-0 and in the 18th minute scored again to lead 12-0 with Mounties playmakers finding it difficult to get into the game.
Mounties forwards were making plenty of inroads into the Wenty line and had several scoring opportunities however the final passes were lacking in polish and in the the final minute to half time Wenty scored again to lead at the break by 16-0.
Wenty came out firing again in the second half and in the 44th minute looked to score again however an intercept by Tim Tautuua saw him run the length of the field for a converted try and Wenty led 16-6.
Mounties continued the comeback and in the 52nd minute Vinnie Uelese crashed over the line to make it 16-12 and several more opportunities went begging for Mounties to take the lead in what appeared to be the order of the day.
In the 64th minute a scramble for the ball close to Mounties try line saw Wenty come away with a try to make it 22-12 and both teams make several more attempts to trouble the scorer before Sam Brunton came up with a kick rebound in the 79th minute to make it 22-16 but Mounties could not produce the equaliser in the last minute and will now play Burwood in an elimination final at Lidcombe Oval on Saturday.
In the Sydney Shield Mounties did it tough with only 12 fit players to compete with and did well in the first half to trail by only 36-16 at half time.
In the second half heat and fatigue got the better of them and they trailed 76-16 in the dying minutes before a great team rally saw them score the last try to make it 76-22 at the end.
Sydney Shield will also now play an elimination semi against Hills District at Lidcombe on Saturday.
