The standard of this years comp is the weakest I’ve very seen. Last night was 1 v 4, and it was basically over after 25 minutes.
I will be absolutely shocked if Storm or Panthers don’t win this year, it should be a major concern for expansion plans

I don’t think it’s right to say the standard is weak necessarily. There’s just been rule changes which:
1. Accentuate the gap between good and bad teams
2. Reward momentum with more momentum so the team on top often has a positive feedback into looking completely dominant.
3. Shows the intelligence and agility in certain teams to adapt strategy on the fly.

Northern Raider wrote:Storm have gone away from the Wrestle since the 6 again rule came in. They have no mastered the art of the Tangle. Get any part of the body except the arms caught up with the ball player while giving the impression you're trying to break free. Even make it look like the tackled player contributing and gain a "milking" call.
They've done this for a few years. Just clear the **** ruck. I remember when it was the defenders responsibility to clear the ruck or you were penalised. Tacklers rolling out of the ruck area as quickly as they could or you were penalised. Now it is a lottery. Sometimes if the dummy half can milk it, using some oaf in the ruck to milk a penalty - other times its called a knock on and absolutely no consideration for an oaf not getting out of the ruck area based purely on the players milking ability or football iq.

It's no coincidence that the 2 best coaches push the limits in the game and get away with it. They are probably also the best at analysing referees and adapting how they play on any given week based on the referee as well as the opposition, furthermore analysing subtle shifts in the game and interpretation. (Edit to add - I've never understood why the NRL publishes who is refereeing each game - why does it need to be made public?) I said it months ago that I thought the ruck interpretation had slowed a little and those two teams went straight into 'semi-final' mode and got back to grind ball.

Like Bot used to point out, you can't get mad at those clubs for using this to their advantage. It's the NRL's problem to fix. I seem to make a long-winded whiney post each and every year and I'm getting bored. V'landysball I can live with because it is an attempt to improve the game - but then these negative spoiling tactics are completely ignored... every season from origin period into and including the finals.

Why are there Titans trainers hanging around on the field? Aren’t they supposed to leave if there not delivering water or attending a player? One nearly interfered with play.

Geez that’s surely a sin bin at a minimum on Verrils. It fit the very definition of what the NRL said they were cracking down on.

Titans not helping themselves. Refs helping Roosters though.

Sin bin every time when you injure a player like that. If Kelly doesn't return they cannot use 18th man because he wasn't binned.

The big teams can certainly get the key decisions fall their way in the end of season games.

At one point in the first half, the Titans are attacking... obvious set restart... they don't get it. Roosters go to the other end and score next set.

18-18 is a surprise. Hasn't been a great game. But could be a good finish.

24-24 with 10 minutes left. That was a gift to the Titans.

Can't say I expect the Titans to win.

Puts the Raiders' performance against the Roosters last week into context...

Roosters 25-24. Would like to see the "wall" the Roosters set up again prior to the field goal. They're illegal in that situation.

If it wasn’t for the match the ref could have called the Roosters offside after the long break down the left.

10-10 is a lot tighter than I was expecting at half time between the Panthers and Rabbitohs.

Rabbitohs win 16-10. That’s one notched up for the old fashioned grind.

So it looks like Storm V Rabbitohs now.
