They should pick and stick. Those combinations need time to flourish those 3 times a year they play together.

Just heard that Nathan Cleary is out for 6 weeks with a shoulder injury. SOO3 just got a lot closer as a contest. I wonder who Freddy will pick as his new halfback? Surely not Pearce. Maybe Adam Reynolds or Mitchell Moses.

Wighton to 6 and Luai to 7. Burton will likely nab the utility spot.
Re: 2021 State of Origin III: Blues V Maroons
Burton for NSW? I don't think Fittler would do that. He may have Papenhuyzen at 14 to choose from if he is back, or maybe Radley or Gutherson?ALX22 wrote:Wighton to 6 and Luai to 7. Burton will likely nab the utility spot.

I’d love to see Radley unleashed on QLD.
I reckon Moses will come into the halves for the Blues, they need a goal kicker.

Re: 2021 State of Origin III: Blues V Maroons
Jack Wighton to take over Blues' five eighth role
Jack Wighton, will wear the NSW No.6 jersey for the first time in the third State of Origin game on Wednesday week. Blues adviser Greg Alexander revealed the news moments after Penrith effectively ruled five-eighth Jarome Luai out of the third Origin game. Luai injured the medial ligament in his knee while playing for the Panthers on Friday.
“We’ll have a new five-eighth, which will be Jack Wighton,” Alexander said.

Talk on the footy show today about Reynolds/Walker halves combination to keep the theme of combinations going. NSW will sure miss the Panthers combination. The issue for me though is who will give the best opportunity for Teddy, Turbo and Mitchell to get themselves into the game when the Blues have the ball. If we go all out attack then Reynolds/Walker makes sense. I think Qld will target them when they have the ball, so with my green eyes selector cap on, I would go with Moses/Wighton.

Re: 2021 State of Origin III: Blues V Maroons
Wighton had one move - step off the left foot and into the gap. He was doing it so often, he was no longer fooling anyone. Against the Titans, he shelved that and seemed to be trying to do a Tommy Turbo by popping up everywhere, but not actually doing anything of worth.Canberra Milk wrote: ↑July 4, 2021, 5:09 am I think it's out of loyalty too, to the "incumbent". If he goes back to being a powerful running 5/8th who links with the backs, he might be able to claim that jumper long term.

Re: 2021 State of Origin III: Blues V Maroons
Thought Moses was junk on a stick vs Penrith, showed yet again he can't step up in big games against strong defences
But Freddy and Cronk gave him wraps because he kicked well lucky Queensland are garbage so it probably won't matter. Just spin it to the back 5 and we'll probably carve regardless
Cody Walker unlucky not to get a bench spot imo
EDIT: Nicho Hynes 19th man wow. Ok well deserved but Freddy don't like Cody

Re: 2021 State of Origin III: Blues V Maroons
The Walker and Reynolds combo surely had to be the obvious selection.
Poor Moses is now on the end of a hospital pass here. Chances are NSW will clock enough to allow QLD to salvage something by trying a few different things. Don't know if Wighton will be much help either. If NSW lose and he doesn't manage to do much, that'll probably be his rep career written off as a one game wonder.

Re: 2021 State of Origin III: Blues V Maroons
I think it's fair to give Wighton a crack at the job
Even if his club form is deplorable. I think he's pretty well locked in the bench role for them long term, as discussed before, there arent many players who offer his level of versatility. It's a dead rubber, give him a shot so you know what he's got as an origin 5/8th
Same deal with Moses... it's worth knowing if these guys are viable options if required in a game that actually counts
If this injury situation happens next year, NSW will be better equipped to know what their options are because of this game.
And as long as they dont both piss down their legs, which is entirely possible... Turbo, Teddy and the strength of the 1-5, 8-17 should still give NSW a good shot at a sweep

Not sure where it leaves us if Jack has a blinder of a game. I’m very keen to see how he goes under a different coach with different players around him. Hope he kills it but just as importantly if he does have a cracker I hope we can pinpoint why and what is holding him back with us.

Saifiti ruled out with Haas to start and Finucane onto the bench. Blues now only have two genuine front rowers with Crichton and Finucane playing off the bench. That combined with frantic Mitch Moses and woefully out of form Wighton in the halves causes me concern. Thank goodness the series is already won.

'No doubt in the world': NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler backs Jack Wighton to shine in State of Origin
NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler has no doubt Jack Wighton will be up to the task when he starts in the halves alongside debutant Mitchell Moses against Queensland.
"He's a whole-hearted bloke, I think at the moment it's not working that well at the Canberra Raiders so you start to question what you're doing and how you're doing it. Hopefully by game day, he's not questioning anything."

'I'll take it with both hands': Canberra Raiders five-eighth Jack Wighton to start for NSW Blues in State of Origin III
He'll start at five eighth in Origin III but Jack Wighton says reversing the Canberra Raiders' fortunes is his top priority.
"It's been busy. I still count my blessings. I'm very blessed, and I've had a couple of big weeks. It's been a lot of fun, but I definitely want to get here right. It's going to be a long year if we don't get this right, because this is the bread and butter, this is home, this is where my main focus is, trying to get this right."

Re: 2021 State of Origin III: Blues V Maroons
I'd like to congratulate Jack on being selected as the NSW 5/8. He will get every opportunity to showcase his talent. He has been a part of the squad all series so it did not surprise me to see him get the nod for the role. I expect him to get the job done.
