Wow, Jack still can't crack the no6 jersey even for the All Stars. I'd have Johnston on the winger, Ferg in centres, Jack at 5/8 and Walker in 14.

Why oh why are we having an Allstars this season?????

I’m not sensing any excitement for the concept from fellow league fans and I think some players are still jaded from Covid last year.

Agree. The concept is disruptive at best of times. In the current climate they should be letting players focus purely on the impending season openers.

Indigenous v Maori All Stars: Seven new players named

Seven new players were added to the All Stars match on Sunday after Melbourne's representatives were omitted from the game due to COVID-19 border restrictions.

Storm flyer Josh Addo-Carr was ruled out of the Indigenous All Stars due to Victoria's COVID-19 border closures. He's replaced by the Titans' Corey Thompson.

The Maori All Stars have lost Storm representatives Jesse and Kenny Bromwich, Reimis and Brandon Smith, Jahrome Hughes and Nelson Asofa-Solomona. Russell Packer (Wests Tigers), Esan Marsters, Daejarn Asi and Emry Pere (North Queensland Cowboys), Issac Luke (Brisbane Broncos) and Jackson Topine (Bulldogs) have all been added to the team.

Can’t say I get too excited by this game, however it is great to see there is going to be a 25k capacity (not Covid capacity - every seat taken capacity) crowd.

I don’t know about others but I just can’t get interested in sports playing before no one. Halep v Williams and Djokovic v Zverev tonight - doesn’t get bigger for quarter finals but watching them play in an empty RLA I am bored stiff.

All Star Joe Tapine to lead Maoris as co-captain

Goosebumps were already on the cards, but now representing his culture will be extra special for Joe Tapine.

The Canberra Raiders lock will share the Maori All Stars captaincy duties with winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak in the NRL All Stars game at Townsville on Saturday night.

"It's a pretty big honour to represent your culture, so I was buzzing when Kidwell told me. I'm excited as well," Tapine said. "I've been working on [my leadership] away from footy and just trying to be more of a leader around the club.

I much prefer the new All-Stars concept than the previous one. Maoris vs Indigenous Australians is a fantastic idea.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Yeah, I absolutely HATED that concept, could never get behind the "white" All-Stars, just felt wrong to do so.

the first game was "feel good" but then it felt a bit cringey, this is a huge improvement and celebration of footy and culture

Maori All Stars captain Joe Tapine set to represent his heritage in NRL All Stars clash

Joe Tapine takes a moment to think about the chance to represent the Ngai Tuhoe tribe. "It's a different rush" for the 26-year-old Maori All Stars co-captain.

"When you do that haka for the Kiwis you get that pride. But when you do it for the Maoris, it's a different feeling. You do it to represent your whole culture, and it's a different feeling you get from inside," Tapine said.

Canberra Raiders superstar Jack Wighton relaxed and ready to roll for Indigenous All Stars

Dally M medalist Jack Wighton has followed up his best year on the field with the biggest offseason of his life. He proposed to his partner Monisha while the couple also announced they were expecting a third child.

"It's all happening, it's pretty busy at the moment. Got a little bub due in June I think, around there. I finally got the courage to drop on the knee.

“Got a little bub due in June I think, around there”

Says everything about Jack!!

I am sure someone will let him know when it arrives, no point marking a date when it might change.

Fair to say he is a pretty relaxed bloke.

Welcome to our coverage of tonight's All Stars match from Townsville. Canberra Raiders winger Bailey Simonsson has been ruled out of the Maori All Stars with a minor leg injury.
