Melbourne Storm: 2021 round 1 predicted team

With Cameron Smith still unsigned and looking increasingly likely to retire, Harry Grant is the ready-made replacement. Recruits Reimis Smith and George Jennings are vying with Isaac Lumelume for Suliasi Vunivalu's vacant wing spot. A fit-again Tui Kamikamica and utility Nicho Hynes are jostling with the likes of Max King, Tom Eisenhuth and Darryn Schonig for the last couple of bench spots.

2. Josh Addo-Carr
3. Brenko Lee
4. Justin Olam
5. Reimis Smith
6. Cameron Munster
7. Jahrome Hughes
8. Jesse Bromwich
9. Harry Grant
10. Christian Welch
11. Felise Kaufusi
12. Kenny Bromwich
13. Dale Finucane

14. Brandon Smith
15. Nelson Asofa-Solomona
16. Tui Kamikamica

It's a very, very strong squad with Brandon Smith on the bench. Best #14 in the game to the point he's one of the more influential players in the entire comp.

Reimus Smith is not a good player but I think they'd take the lack of threat and prefer just less mistakes than Vunivalu was starting to leak. He was a bit of a weak point by the end there (despite being a huge attacking threat) just considering the way they prefer to play.

The development of Harry Grant and Jahrome Hughes will be key. I used to think Hughes just was never going to be a FG halfback.

Reimis is solid at best, but I think Bellamy will do what he has always done very well. Teach him his role in the side, focus on consistency and the basics and minimising errors. I think he has been recruited primarily to kick goals, with Cam leaving.

Reimis can be very good if he stays injury free. I think that’s the key question.

Would it be fair to say the storm and raiders have the most stacked forwards packs in the nrl?

Still think raiders have the best with all the depth we have. Some good players missing out on selection that would walk into other starting clubs starting sides.

Peter V'landys back pocket.

The NRL will make that work. It's Cameron Smith.

Smith successors plan ref-whispering tutorial

New Storm co-captains Jesse Bromwich and Dale Finucane plan to pick Cameron Smith's brain on his famed ref-whispering techniques as Melbourne's post-Big Three era officially kicks off.

"That will be a conversation that Jesse and I will have with Cameron about when to approach referees... because it's a new role for us I think we can learn from him."

Craig Bellamy signs new five-year deal with Melbourne Storm

Craig Bellamy will lead the Melbourne Storm into a 20th season in 2022 after agreeing to a new five-year deal. He will be the head coach next season, but his exact role after that is yet to be determined.

"I will be the head coach next year and then I will sit down with the club at the end of each year and talk about what role I might play. At some time during this period, I will take on a different role in coaching and in the commercial area.
