How Jack Wighton can silence nemisis Dane Gagai

Dane Gagai last week caused Jack Wighton a massive headache for a second consecutive Origin opener. Wighton missed seven tackles playing opposite Gagai as the Maroons centre laid on a try in a complete performance.

“We gave him too much space,” Wighton said. “That’s footy sometimes. You miss those tackles but unfortunately it happened to be on the big stage. I’ll go again and get ready for game two.

Canberra Raiders prop Dunamis Lui set for Origin debut: 'It's all surreal to be honest'

There was a time Queensland Maroons squad member Dunamis Lui thought he may never play rugby league. As a 12-year-old, Lui longed to play the sport all of his friends were, but his parents said 'no'.

"I was pretty close to not even playing rugby league at all... I was always keen to play, especially with all of my friends playing... I just remember my parents saying 'no' because they couldn't afford it," Lui said.

Chat leads way for Canberra Raiders prop Dunamis Lui's State of Origin debut for Queensland Maroons

It's the chat with Ricky Stuart that's taken Dunamis Lui's game to another level and will culminate in the Canberra Raiders prop making his State of Origin debut on Wednesday night.

"We had a lot of boys who needed to step up and [Stuart] pulled me aside and said I was one of those players that he needed to rely on. I said I'd do anything for the boys and if that means stepping up into that leadership role and taking that. It made me a better player as well.

wasn't sure when we bought him that he'd be much more than a squad filler but the last 2 years he's been fantastic.
If he can go to another gear off origin like many have it'll be a sight to see.

Always good to hear about support for kids whose families can’t afford to play sport but someone helps them out.

Jason Day learning to play golf with a single club from the rubbish tip is a great story.

For all the bad stories about Canberra community sporting clubs and their poker machines, the money often helps a kid from Charnwood or Tuggeranong play junior league when there’s no way he’d be playing League otherwise. It’s meant to be the working class game, but I wonder if that gets forgotten in the modern age.

Blues have changed their halves pairing and qld fans are claiming underdog status despite being 1 up in the series. Everything is as it should be.

We have a pair of Origin front rowers.

Just savour that for a moment

What the hell is Stefanovic doing on this coverage? Nine will stoop to any level in an attempt to rebuild his reputation.

They said it is was because the Queensland based commentators couldn’t leave Queensland, without going into 14 days quarantine to get home... not sure that’s true for Adelaide, but it certainly is for Sydney. And they want them in Brisbane for Game III, as NSW commentators won’t be able to go to Brisbane. So Stefanovic was their solution as a “Queensland commentator”. Sadly he knows nothing about rugby league and is a worse interviewer than Brad Fittler.

By the end of the decade I predict the kick off time for origin will be 21:45 with actual kick off being 22:05.

8th min TRY MAROONS to Xavier Coates. This is magic if it is confirmed. Wighton came out of the line early and there's an overlap. Coates produces the biggest leap and dive you'll ever see and he scores in the corner. TRY. Valentine Holmes on the sideline... can't get the conversion.

Maroons 4-0

16th min Dunamis Lui has been great so far for the Maroons. Maroons run it on the last, they die with it 10m out.

PENALTY BLUES, it gets them off their own line.

Munster has failed his HIA. Out for the match. Big blow for Queensland.
