The text from Wayne Bennett that had Canberra Raiders prop Josh Papalii on edge

Maroons enforcer Josh Papalii sent Wayne Bennett a text message before joining the Queensland camp to tell the master coach he was nervous about meeting him for the first time.

"You’d better be nervous," Bennett replied.

No sleeping on the job for Queensland Maroons for State of Origin II: Josh Papalii

He might've spent most of the day asleep before the State of Origin opener, but Queensland enforcer Josh Papalii says the Maroons won't get caught napping for game two.

"I had a three-hour nap before the game. Lucky Dunamis Lui called me there, because I would've been late for the team meeting," Papalii laughed.

Canberra Raiders Jack Wighton expected to be fit for Origin II, but Brimson and Murray ruled out

NSW forward Cameron Murray and Maroons fullback AJ Brimson are both out of the rest of the State of Origin series after suffering injuries in the series opener in Adelaide. Brimson has a lisfranc ligament injury in his foot, suffered late in the game.

NSW coach Brad Fittler said centre Jack Wighton's leg injury would be assessed in the next few days and added he was confident he would be right to play.

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart questions Jack Wighton’s Origin shift

Canberra Raiders five eighth Jack Wighton is in the spotlight, after New South Wales lost their lead and went down to the Queensland Maroons 18-14 on Wednesday night.

"It's all good to say that he's a talented football player but it does make it difficult for him when he has been the number one five-eighth all season and then gets moved out to the centres. Yes he can play out in the centres but he's played and trained all season at 6. He'll still do a good job for New South Wales," he said.

The last time was in 2005 gergreg, but nothing wrong with wrong with having the opportunity of creating some history with the 2020 side.
Whether NSW can first, set up the opportunity and second carry it out, is something we will learn over the next fortnight.

I think they have the side to turn it around but can they get in the right headspace. It's why QLD has been so good with the origin concept.

NSW being investigated for letting Cordner back on. He needs to retire. I think someone said earlier, if he doesn't retire soon he will be like Mario in 10 years. I reckon he is already there.

Nice try from Sticky to soften the blow on Wighton... but a player of his calibre who has proven himself a very good centre in the past, should’ve given a far better account of himself on Wednesday night. It was a shocker performance defensively.

Gutherson on the other hand, has never looked like he’d be a decent Origin centre. That was just Freddie’s fault.

I’d have picked Lomax and I hope he’s there game 2.

Lomax has a very high error count for a centre. Not the best stage for a rookie with that record.

Dunamis to debut. Great reward for the big guy. Good stuff, even though he's a Kweelanner.

Keary out, Walker in. Wouldn't want the Dally M player of the year actually playing in his spot now, would we...

Unsung Canberra Raider Dunamis Lui set to make State of Origin debut for Queensland Maroons

A year ago, Dunamis Lui played in the biggest game of his career - the NRL grand final. Now it's about to go to the next level, with the Canberra Raiders prop named to start State of Origin, alongside Josh Papalii.

Blues coach Brad Fittler has rung the changes, dropping five eighth Luke Keary from the 17, but Dally M five eighth of the year Jack Wighton has again been named again in the centres.

I wish drunkfreddy would give Jack a run at #6.

The best 5/8 in the comp is not really the best 5/8 apparently.

I’d be prepared to grab a Morris to let Jack play in the halves.

This guy's doing the same thing he did when he coached the Roosters. Starts off as a breath of fresh air flying high, ends up having NFI what he's doing.

Luke Keary is the best half in the game today - he should be the very first player picked.

Yeah this is Freddie’s final game as coach, if NSW lose.

I still think we’ll win just because, but Nathan Cleary was easily the worst half on the field the other night. And Keary would only have been better 2nd-up from his debut.

And where the **** is Wade Graham? Didn’t have a great season, but he has literally never let NSW down, provides another attacking option, is an old head and is versatile.

We miss David Klemmer and Tommy Turbo.

Wade Graham has literally cost NSW a couple of games almost single handedly.

Matterson should have been in the squad imo.

And Canberra bias aside I think he’s missed a trick by leaving Wighton at centre. NSW’s best five-eighths have always been the tough ones. Fittler and Daley were both big tough bodies. And post them even fill ins like Timmins and Bird have sort of been the best options.

His running game, left footed kicking on the correct side of the ruck, ability to spiral bomb and put in unconventional early kick chases are suited to an Origin 6.

I would have gone with 6. Wighton 7. Keary personally, but I thought that could have been the result of my pro-Raiders and anti-Cleary bias.

I'm also with you on Matterson but I've also never thought Angus Chricton as Origin calibre.

Canberra Raiders prop Dunamis Lui’s rise to Origin a road less travelled

When Dunamis Lui arrived at Canberra in 2017 he was a journeyman NRL forward preparing for life at a fourth club. Fast forward three years and Lui will become a Queensland State of Origin player on Wednesday.

"It's fantastic, isn't it? Just the perseverance, and I guess that's the best word for it, the perseverance of Dunamis to stick through it," Cherry-Evans said. "He's obviously found what he's good at after 150 games.

Well done Dunamis.

I bet he didn’t expect he would have a Grand Final appearance and a Queensland jumper when he lobbed into Canberra as a backup forward looking for an opportunity.

He played in that very first Under 20s Grand Final between Raiders and Broncos. He may not have had Dugan’s talent but he never rested on his laurels and certainly out trained and out persevered Duges.
