You could make a pretty good case that a guy that can't get through a match like Tom Trbojevic shouldn't be there.

I don't think Frizzell deserves selection. I think he has been very ordinary this year.

Manly have been garbage too, yet Jake T has been putting out rep quality performances all year. I'd have Jake, Murray, Crichton, Finucane, Yeo, Martin, Sironen, even Josh bloody Jackson well ahead of Frizzell this year. And that's just off the top of my head and I've probably forgotten at least another 3 that have played better.bonehead wrote:he plays in the worst team in the comp, he'll be fine in origin

Queensland Maroons confirm Wayne Bennett will coach 2020 series
Queensland will be heavy underdogs when State of Origin kicks off next month but they will have the most successful coach in premiership history, Wayne Bennett, calling the shots.
Read more: https://www.nrl.com/news/2020/10/02/ben ... 20-series/
Statement from the Queensland Rugby League
The Queensland Rugby League can confirm Wayne Bennett will be the head coach of the Queensland Maroons for the 2020 State of Origin series.
Bennett takes the reins from Kevin Walters, who has relinquished the Maroons role to concentrate on his commitments with the Brisbane Broncos following confirmation of his NRL appointment on Wednesday.
Bennett’s return to the Origin arena sets the scene for a fascinating series next month, with the current South Sydney Rabbitohs mentor having a strong connection to the Maroons family after three previous coaching stints (1986 to 1988, 1998 and 2001 to 2003).
He has won five of seven Origin series while in charge of the Maroons, and was at the helm when Queensland won its first series clean sweep in 1988.
Bennett said he felt privileged to be given the opportunity to step up for Queensland in such a big series.
“I love coaching Queensland and I’m extremely humbled to be invited to coach this team again, particularly in light of the challenging circumstances with Kevin moving on to coach the Broncos,” Bennett said.
“I’m very proud and pleased that I’m still able to do it. State of Origin means so much to the people of Queensland.
“It’s been a difficult year for many people and I just want to give something back if I can.”
Game I of this year’s series will be played on November 4 at Adelaide Oval. It will be Bennett’s 23rd Origin game in charge of the Maroons.
QRL managing director Robert Moore said experience would be invaluable.
“Our people involved in the process to appoint the new coach all viewed Wayne as the right person when we took into consideration the unique circumstances we are now faced with,” Moore said.
“There’s no doubt next month’s series will present a range of new challenges due to the scheduling change and biosecurity protocols.
“Wayne has the necessary experience and he knows what it takes to win big games at representative level, for both state and country.”
Bennett’s latest comeback will draw comparisons to the 2001 fairytale, when he returned to provide the spark for a stunning series win, just 12 months after the New South Wales Blues had swept Queensland 3-0.
In the final match of the 2001 series, Bennett famously enticed champion halfback Allan Langer back from England and it proved to be a master stroke as the inspired Maroons ran away with a 40-14 win to lift the Origin shield.

What happenned to pick and stick? Can't even pick and stick with the one person who actually had a contract with the maroons
Walters was contracted to Maroons for over 2 years for 1 series loss? That's a pretty good gig.

Reckon it was the Broncos blocking Walters from the Origin gig. Basically saying we'll give you the job if you pull the pin on Origin.

On their day.
Ponga not getting much help and looks like he's trying to do too much. He'll be QLD fullback and I expect Brimson to fill a wing or centre position. 2 spots up for grabs there.

Re: 2020 State of Origin
Ponga will consult with a specialist surgeon on Thursday about whether to go under the knife immediately to repair a labral tear in his left shoulder, which would rule him out of this year's series.
With Cowboys star Valentine Holmes unavailable for Origin I due to a shoulder charge suspension, Brimson is set to assume Ponga's fullback role.
Broncos forward David Fifita, who is Titans-bound next year, has a syndesmosis injury and was ruled out on Tuesday by Gold Coast medicos of playing any part in the series.
The Maroons already have Michael Morgan, Corey Oates, Anthony Milford and Kyle Feldt ruled out due to injury.

No David Klemmer is a **** ridiculous. Should be the first forward picked for NSW including **** Cordner. Kent's story about him sulking last year just leads me to believe Klemmer actually realizes this. Should have never been left out then either.
This series will be a debacle. The Qld squad is disgusting so far.

Haas is arguably more out of form than Klemmer and you just know that Klemmer would rise to the occasion.julian87 wrote:No David Klemmer is a **** ridiculous. Liam Knight. Heh.
Probably planning to have Jake T as 1 prop. We've done that previously.
Murray at lock. There's a heap of lock talent and guys that can move to lock if needed.
James Tamou swan song?
Moses Leota could be a smokey but I think that's jumping the queue a bit.

When is Finucane due back, or is he gone for the season? I could see Fittler using Jake at prop. SOO is usually a quicker game so maybe he goes with a more mobile pack. You would think Cordner is an automatic so does he go with Frizzell or a Matterson/Yeo defensive player to make 60 tackles for the game?Sid wrote:Finucane another lock toozim wrote:Liam Knight. Heh.

I left him out because I thought he was gone for the season but yeah if fit he gets picked in the squad. Isaah Yeo could get a call up. Nathan Brown while not quite up there with the others could also make the squad. Victor Radley is injured. NSW are up to their ears in good locks.Sid wrote: ↑October 9, 2020, 5:59 amFinucane another lock toozim wrote:Liam Knight. Heh.
