God I hope Alfie Langer is the coach for this year... it would be just PERFECT to round out 2020.

Haha, depends on which side of the border you're on. That was the irony of Walters vs Fittler. By default one of them was destined to become a "successful" origin coach.greeneyed wrote: ↑September 29, 2020, 1:48 pmThat's the best thing.yeh raiders wrote: ↑September 29, 2020, 11:10 am The worst thing about Kevvie coaching them is he’ll no longer coach QLD.

Kevin Walters named Brisbane coach: I can unite Broncos and return to finals next year
Kevin Walters insists he will unite the Broncos and restore the club’s winning culture after being appointed head coach for the next two seasons.
The club officially announced his signing on Wednesday and the five-time Broncos premiership winner said it was the realisation of "a dream" 20 years in the making.

Brisbane Broncos club statement
The Brisbane Broncos have confirmed Kevin Walters as the club’s head coach for the next two years.
Walters, a former Broncos Captain and five-time Premiership winner with the club, will start in the role in coming weeks as preparations ramp up for the 2021 preseason.
The 52-year-old, born in Rockhampton, has signed a two-year contract through to the end of the 2022 season.
Walters returns to the Broncos having been Queensland State of Origin Coach for the past four series.
Prior to that he had been an assistant coach with the Broncos and Melbourne Storm, as well coach of the Toowoomba Clydesdales and Ipswich Jets in the Queensland Cup, and two seasons as head coach of Catalans Dragons in the English Super League.
Walters, one of the first players ever to be inducted in the Broncos Hall Of Fame, said he was thrilled to be given the opportunity as head coach.
“I love the Brisbane Broncos – this club is part of who I am and it feels like I am coming home’” said Walters.
“I’ve put in a lot of work over the past 15 years to learn and gain the experience that’s required to succeed in this role, so I feel that I’m ready.
The success of the Broncos over the years has been built on passion for the jersey, standing by your mates and plain old hard work, and we will strive for nothing less.
Brisbane Broncos Chairman Karl Morris said Walters was a strong choice to guide a playing squad containing a host of emerging talent.
“Kevin has played the game at the highest level and as a coach demonstrates a passion and ability to communicate and connect with his teams,” said Morris.
“He has a track record of getting the best out of his players regardless of age or experience, and the Board saw that as a key element for where we are at as a Club.
“You don’t get any more “Bronco” than Kevin Walters – we believe he is the right choice at this time in the Club’s history to lead our team into the future.”

I just hope he's as successful as Broncos coach as he was at State of Origin level and as succinct he is a commentator.

I find it difficult to accept those quotes are from Kev because they're not entirely in upper case.

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2020
What’s wrong with Wally being captain-coach?
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Some high quality assistant coaches might help make it work. Kevvie can do the media work and a few prematch speeches. Leave the rest to the brains trust behind him.

Yeah, I can't see it being as bad, unfortunately. While I don't rate him as a coach, Kevvie knows how to fix the Broncos culture and he'll work hard at that.Northern Raider wrote: ↑October 1, 2020, 10:24 amSome high quality assistant coaches might help make it work. They might not be a powerhouse again on his watch, but they won't stink like this ever again.

Agree with this. The amount of stink this season is just so high that you can't see it being topped or equaled. The Nickman wrote: ↑October 1, 2020, 10:28 amYeah, I can't see it being as bad, unfortunately. Those youngsters aren't like the Newcastle triple spooners. They are actually first graders. Dearden, Riki and Farnsworth are quality. Riki would have been a great buy for us if we were still looking in that area.
The roster right now will be worse for 2021 (they still have a fullback hole) but the players that are there will want to play for kevvie and he'll get help from the club legends rather than hostility.
Enough to be 11-15 instead of dead last.

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2020
Now some of this makes for terrible, terrible reading:
1. Jamayne Isaako
2. Herbie Farnworth
3. Jack Bird
4. Kotoni Staggs
5. Corey Oates
6. Anthony Milford
7. Tom Dearden
8. Payne Haas
9. Andrew McCullough
10. Tevita Pangai Junior
11. Jordan Riki
12. Alex Glenn (c)
13. Patrick Carrigan
14. Jake Turpin
15. Joe Ofahengaue
16. Mathew Lodge
17. Thomas Flegler
And some players might not be there when they shuffle the decks (Joe O, Jack Bird), but there should be enough there to avoid the spoon.

There's enough there to make the Top 8, if we're being honest. Their problems have nothing to do with their roster.

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2020
If some luck goes their way with injury (there's not a lot of depth) but with the 6 again rule their roster needs some tweaks. You need a fit prop to partner with Haas that has good defense to tidy up the ruck. They need a ready made fullback in their roster somewhere. They need some young spark off the bench in the forwards. It's pretty boring reading that bench.
They need a defensive specialist like Bateman around Milford. You can't run Milford on the same side as Staggs and Glenn for instance. On the other hand plenty of sides on the edge of that 8 have the same issues.

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2020
Walters will give them an immediate attitude shift in the right direction. That alone will overcome a number of issues from 2020. Their spine is still very ordinary. That needs to be fixed before they become any kind of threat again.zim wrote: ↑October 1, 2020, 10:51 amAgree with this. Wow. I can’t believe they went with Walters. I thought for sure they’d go with Green. This wreaks of a move made by board members desperate to keep their seats.

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2020
We can only dream!
The club has a massive ego problem. They’ve had an ego problem for a long time, but they’ve always had the winning cattle to back it up and deliver when it matters. They don’t have that luxury anymore.
