Offseason game - NRL club rebuild

Post by FuiFui BradBrad »

Hi everybody,

So I was just reading about how the NBA have a catastrophe rule in place where if an event results in the death of the whole team, that team gets an emergency draft. Each team gets to protect 4 players from being drafted.

So it got me thinking about starting this thread. Let’s say you’re the GM of an NRL side, congratulations! Only you’re side has just been punished for systematic drug cheating, resulting in you’re entire squad being rubbed out and banned from playing again.

The clubs have rallied to help out, and have offered you free reign of 22 of their top 30. They figure the NBA can protect 4 of their 15, they should be able to protect 8 of their 30.

So, with your chequebook in hand, who do you sign to make your squad of 30? Additionally, which 8 players do you think each side would protect?

To assist in your team build, below is the top 30 of all the clubs as at 11/12/2019. Also remember, whichever club you choose, none of their players will be available for selection

Are you going to sign 29 others, or are you thinking he’ll be enough?

I'd take Milford over Slater. Is that how this is done?
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Chocolate-Thunda, It might be easier if we can get an agreed upon "Protected 8" so we have a list people can choose from for each team. I've taken a stab:

BRISBANE BRONCOS
David Fifita, Payne Haas, Brodie Croft, Anthony Milford, Jake Turpin, Kotoni Staggs, Tevita Pangai Jr, Jamayne Isaako

CANBERRA RAIDERS
Josh Hodgson, Jack Wighton, Jarrod Croker, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Josh Papalii, John Bateman, Nick Cotric, Corey Horsburgh

CANTERBURY BULLDOGS
Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, Corey Harawira-Naera, Dylan Napa, Brandon Wakeham, Josh Jackson, Will Hopoate, Nick Meaney, Jeremy Marshall-King

CRONULLA SHARKS
Wade Graham, Shaun Johnson, Blayke Brailey, Jesse Ramien, Braden Hamlin-Uele, Chad Townsend, Briton Nikora, Ronaldo Mulitalo

GOLD COAST TITANS
AJ Brimson, Moeaki Fotuaika, Jai Arrow, Jarrod Wallace, Brian Kelly, Ryan James, Tannah Boyd, Kevin Proctor

MANLY SEA EAGLES
Daly Cherry-Evans, Addin Fonua-Blake, Martin Taupau, Jake Trbojevic, Tom Trbojevic, Cade Cust, Reuben Garrick, Curtis Sironen

MELBOURNE STORM
Josh Addo-Carr, Nelson Asofa-Solomona, Jesse Bromwich, Felise Kaufusi, Cameron Munster, Ryan Papenhuyzen, Dale Finucane, Cameron Smith

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS
Dave Klemmer, Mitchell Pearce, Kalyn Ponga, Tim Glasby, Daniel Saifiti, Connor Watson, Jayden Brailey, Mitch Barnett

NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, David Fusitu'a, Tohu Harris, Chanel Harris-Tavita, Ken Maumalo, Agnatius Paasi, Leeson Ah Mau, Peta Hiku

NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS
Scott Drinkwater, Valentine Holmes, Michael Morgan, Jason Taumalolo, Reece Robson, Jordan McLean, Jake Clifford, Josh McGuire

PARRAMATTA EELS
Mitchell Moses, Clint Gutherson, Dylan Brown, Reed Mahoney, Junior Paulo, Blake Ferguson, Maika Sivo, Ryan Matterson

PENRITH PANTHERS
Nathan Cleary, James Fisher-Harris, Api Koroisau, Viliame Kikau, Brian To'o, James Tamou, Issah Yeo, Matt Burton

ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA DRAGONS
Tyson Frizell, Ben Hunt, Zac Lomax, Cameron McInnes, Corey Norman, Paul Vaughan, Tariq Sims, Tristan Sailor

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS
Damien Cook, Cameron Murray, Cody Walker, Adam Reynold, Liam Knight, Adam Doueihi, James Roberts, Campbell Graham

SYDNEY ROOSTERS
Boyd Cordner, Luke Keary, James Tedesco, Joseph Manu, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Victor Radley, Jake Friend, Siosiua Taukieaho

WESTS TIGERS
Luke Brooks, Benji Marshall, Moses Mbye, Alex Twal, Josh Aloiai, Luciano Leilua, Paul Momirovski, Billy Walters

The tigers in particular have a lot of dead weight, so in this scenario they'd be the team I would be "retiring".

That does help Zim. I was going to propose this, but there are some teams I have no idea about.

Let’s go with your list of the 8 exclusions from each side. Thanks for your help!

Offseason game - NRL club rebuild

Post by Sid »

Here’s a rough go using Zim’s restricted 8 players from each club. There will be some blunders due to not knowing fringe players from other clubs too well and by rushing through this

1. J Hughes
2. C Oates
3. L Mitchell
4. J Leilua
5. Vunivalu yuck
6. D Walker yuck
7. B Green
8. M Lodge yuck
9. B Smith
10. J Graham (c)
11. Whitehead
12. Glenn
13. Tapine

14. J Tevaga
15. A Crichton
16. Tupounniua
17. N Brown

18. Dufty
19. Tino Fa’asuamaleaui
20. S Matautai
21. Lui

22. T Burgess
23. C Scott
24 Lui
25 G Williams
26 B Simmonson
27. E Lowe
28. Turpin
29. Flegler
30. A Johnston

I presume my coach was caught up in the same incident

Coach Adam O’brien

Would have won Boogs - 2016, 2017, 2018
