Got to say... that leaves a massive sour taste in the mouth. Officials... that's an awful error to make in a final of any sort.

I could see live in my lounge room it wasn't a try. The NRL says on Twitter it was a "miraculous try from Feldt". Miraculous alright!

Yep a number of bad calls in the final. Almost all against NZ.

Gee the referees seem to want to go with the most complicated decisions instead of the most likely.

Watching it on TV at full speed I only needed one look to be sure he was short. Crazy decision! If he wasn’t sure then say no try, less damage if it was than saying try when it wasn’t!

TBF the kiwis were lucky to even make the finals. The CNK match winning pass against the kumuls looked forward.

It was an awful, awful decision! *watches replay of incident on 60 inch HD TV in super slow-mo 10 times*

That's what you get with human refs and no technology to assist, peeps. Didn't cost NZ the game anyway, Australia were already in front.

The best team won, but not ideal if the kiwis are feeling tough done by and the Kumuls are feeling equally as dudded. How hard is it to get calls right for 18 minutes??

Yet so many people want to scrap the bunker/VR.

One of the issues is referees have become so dependant on the technology, they can’t make live calls anymore.

I disagree - they make plenty of calls, just not correct ones!

I've been watching the EPL this morning and the bunker is the smoothest, classiest, most well oiled machine compared to the absolute **** show that is the equivalent over there (VAR).

That's some Annesley logic. Was still a one try game which in Nines is nothing.

Crowds: 12,528 on Friday night and 15,684 on Saturday, Stadium capacity is 30,000: https://www.nrl.com/news/2019/10/20/nin ... ks-format/

There is absolutely no way in the world that Stadium was half full yesterday.

My guess is there were never more than 7,000 there on either day.

Interestingly... the thread has received a lot more views than a thread on a regular round of the NRL would receive. Up to three times more.

There is interest... but clearly not enough to pay the prices being charged to attend.

From what I saw it was more entertaining than NRL Nines. It was more open and teams were willing to chance their hands a bit.

Yeah disappointing crowds. Obviously not much support from the locals when people can't be bothered to head up the road to attend.

Might be better off at somewhere people might want to travel to. Gold Coast could be worth considering. Plenty for people to do outside of the tournament itself. Great time of year to visit as well.

What... WOT
greeneyed wrote: February 14, 2019, 8:41 pm They are official crowd figures. It’s in the newspaper the next day, whether that agrees with your own head count or not. The tries you said are no tries are still worth four points if the ref says so. You can pretend they’re not the figures... but they’re the figures.
greeneyed wrote: February 15, 2019, 2:41 pm But the official crowds are... the official crowds. You can't say that, my estimate, by looking and counting a section or two is more accurate than the clicks/beeps at the turnstiles.
greeneyed wrote: February 15, 2019, 9:00 pm The crowd figures now at least are beeps on tickets at the gate. It’s all moot. The official crowd figures are the official crowd figures.
greeneyed wrote: March 25, 2019, 6:41 pm No, that's not correct. There are scanning machines at Canberra Stadium for every ticket. One beep is one person. If members don't attend, or tickets are not used, they are not counted.
greeneyed wrote: March 25, 2019, 7:57 pm The numbers are people who scan their tickets at the gate.

Bad crowds and scandal. But Nines boss says World Cup was a glorious success

Despite poor attendances over two days and an ineligibility scandal that threatened to derail the competition, IRL (International Rugby League) CEO Nigel Wood declared the inaugural World Cup Nines a success and said the game would explore taking the event to the Middle East.

Just 12,528 people turned up on the Friday night and 15,684 on Saturday. A Nines World Cup will return in 2023, following a 13-a-side event being hosted by England.

“In this kind of event with pass-ins and pass-outs you’re never actually sure how many people actually turned up during the day. All I know is that the people who are here have really enjoyed it."

https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-pr ... b10feb8032

I guess that's the explanation as to why the stadium never looked more than a quarter full, at best... pass ins and pass outs. :hmmm
