There is an international tournament where NZ play England in the semi whilst Australia play a pacific island. Never happened before.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Re: 2019 World Nines - Teams and Game Day
I've really enjoyed watching this. It's been much higher quality than the Club Nines, and much more entertaining.
I'm not sure what's up with the crowds. That would be an awesome stadium to watch it at, but Parramatta is not a destination. I gather that they were banking on a lot of the islander communities coming out in the numbers that they have for tests. I'm not sure where they missed their mark.

Re: 2019 World Nines - Teams and Game Day
The prices wouldn't have helped, those communities have a lot of people who can't afford what they were charging. The NRL tries to extract blood out of a stone sometimes with their pricing. It was going to cost me something like $245 to sit in one of the western corners for two days... and that was with a discount code. I wanted to make sure I was out of the sun... but that was too rich for me, plus two nights accommodation. I probably could have chosen the cheapest seat, and moved around, given how tiny the crowd has been.Dr Zaius wrote: ↑October 19, 2019, 6:54 pm I've really enjoyed watching this. Re: 2019 World Nines - Teams and Game Day
Sounds like something we are trying to address- didn’t we sign that junior sprint champ? I think we need to get some pace in the back three somewhere.afgtnk wrote: ↑October 19, 2019, 4:37 pmNot counting Oldy, since he's a backup who rarely plays. It's good having him on the wing when he does though for that exact reason.Billy Walker wrote: ↑October 19, 2019, 4:28 pmI think Oldfield is quite toey. I’m guessing pace is something you either have or you don’t - would I be right to suggest there is only minimal gain for guys like CNK and Simmonsen in getting a sprint coach in?afgtnk wrote: ↑October 19, 2019, 4:18 pmYeah his speed isn't amazing. Maybe only at Raps' current level, at best. We haven't had a proper flyer who can get away in the clear since EdrickBilly Walker wrote: ↑October 19, 2019, 4:14 pm Simmonsen found himself in the clear and got run down a little easily - I had hoped he was a bit quicker.
RE sprint coach I'd say so, I'd say most if not all teams have one working with them. You can improve your technique a bit but it's not going to make you fly like Addo-Carr.
Re: 2019 World Nines - Teams and Game Day
Ouch, yeah that's pricey. How does that compare to the Club Nines in Auckland?greeneyed wrote:The prices wouldn't have helped, those communities have a lot of people who can't afford what they were charging. That was a fantastic women's final!
Re: 2019 World Nines - Teams and Game Day
I probably paid about $500 in New Zealand, but that was for the corporate seating on the south side of Eden Park. Access to huge air conditioned lounge, restaurants and bars... and an outdoor terrace/bar with some stool type bar seating/standing.Dr Zaius wrote: ↑October 19, 2019, 7:09 pmOuch, yeah that's pricey. You couldn't get that at Western Sydney Stadium, as they only sell to corporates... and the limited corporate seating on the western side was mostly empty. That is one of the huge drawbacks of Western Sydney Stadium. No seating for the public on the western side.

Wouldn't mind us grabbing Isaako off the Broncos if we could. Loads of pace and a killer boot.
Re: 2019 World Nines - Teams and Game Day
Pretty average that they didn't get actual people to sing the national anthems! That's Julie Anthony on recording... and the needle slipped off the turntable at the end. And no haka. Underway in the final!

How do NRL manage to get things wrong so consistently? That second last Australian try was a disgraceful call. Kind of killed the game.

Fifita's a freak. The type of player you only need to watch for all of three seconds before proclaiming he's an absolute gun.

Re: 2019 World Nines - Teams and Game Day
You’re not wrong! He needs to lock up a long term big $$ contract like Taumololo did because as good as he is I think you can only maintain that style of game at that level for 3-4 years. Geez he’d look good in green!
Re: 2019 World Nines - Teams and Game Day
For the officiating to decide two finals in a row... that's disgraceful!
