Particularly when one official is literally pointing at the heavily concussed player haha

The NRL should look into the NFL's CTE payout and ask themselves if they can afford that. The NFL can.

I made a comment on LU about playmakers choosing not to wear headgear and I think the NRL should be strongly encouraging all players who have suffered a concussion to wear headgear in their first few games back, as a minimum. I'm surprised more players don't wear headgear TBH

The experts say headgear does nothing but protect you from superficial head wounds.

Those two referees and the Bunker staff should be dropped to U15s for the rest of the year.
Refereeing like that is bringing the game to ridicule.

It's a fairly regular occurrence. The general refereeing standard is simply not good enough. But rather than just whinging about it (not suggesting you are) I'd like to see some initiatives to help them be better. There's too many grey areas in the rules and too much interpretation, too much media pressure and too many coaches pushing the boundaries. They needed to stick to their guns last year with the penalty crackdown. I believe it was starting to improve the game as a whole.

That’s the problem right now, the noise of this and other forums about how refs treat their teams is just that, noise

The real problem is that the quality of refereeing is bad and seemingly gets worse each year. I think the code makes it’s very hard for them and that combined with general incompetence ends with every team going into a game playing Russian roulette where at any given moment any team can get the bullet

That was a Picasso of ineptitude last night

I agree 100%. I loved the refereeing crackdown last year and blowing the pea out of the whistle. I also loved that they stopped “squaring up” the penalty count in games. Like you, I also thought it improved the product out of site

But like anything the NRL does when it comes to rules, they eventually abandoned it after about half a season. That really **** me

One area where we all agree. Then Phil Gould, Andrew Johns and co. ruined it for everybody. Jerks.

And this is why Voss is the best in the business. He was insisting time and time again 'the players just have to adapt' instead the 9 team was whinging non stop. Andrew Johns now whinges about playmakers getting tackled after passing the ball but that is precisely the type of incident that was being tidied up. Now it's completely random if and when a penalty will be blown.
And the players were adapting last year and then they bowed to pressure and we're back to what I consider an inferior product to what it could have been.

I agree on the approach to make things easier for the refs.

I think the NRL could implement some minor rule changes to make it easier for the referee to look for the big decisions such as forward passes and defence infringements. It’s hard for refs having to constantly make grey area interpretations, especially in the ruck.

1. The second marker at the play the ball must have his hand on the back of his front marker.

2. Attacking team who does ‘Not’ play the ball properly, steps off the mark etc, results in a simple handover, not a penalty.

3. A player who slows the game for ‘non contact injuries or not foul play injuries’ can not take part in the remainder of the tackle set.

These rules are designed to reduce the impact of some minor indiscretions, simplify decisions for referees, speed up play and reduce time wasting.

Good result for us but I still don't want to see Broncos win. I guess I can take some joy whatever the result.

I remember Julian and I had a discussion regarding Jack Williams - I still say he will be a decent player. It is hard to believe we lost him and TPJ while Luke Bateman ran out in first grade.

Depleted Broncos kick clear of wayward Sharks

An inexperienced Brisbane line-up has edged a sloppy Cronulla 24-22 on Sunday afternoon with the Sharks losing despite scoring more tries than their opponents for a third straight week.

They’re so **** terrible I had no issues cheering them on

They’re a classic villain for me. Couldn’t care less or give a **** about them unless they are in someway threatening
What an indictment for that club. So irrelevant that neutral fans can cheer them on

FWIW that sort of performance is why I’d gamble on TPJ
Wasn’t close to his best and still impacted the game in ways few forwards can

For those three posters whinging about Croker. Sharks have lost the past 3 games because they don't have a decent goal kicker - outside of Flanagan.

This is correct. Concussions result from the brain moving inside the skull, headgear won't help in this regard.

Poor old Crapnulla..

Scored more tries than us...lost
Scored more tries than Broncos...lost.

If they Johnson/Townsend could kick goals they'd be 2nd not 8th.

Spot on.

Sending players off for swinging arms to the head would help though. Thanks NRL.....

Kyle Flanagan gets a Grade 1 Dangerous Contact charge. Will be free to play this week with an early guilty plea. Mind boggles how they came up with such a low level charge for putting the knee into a guy's head while he's on the ground. That type of act deserves suspension. Similarly Lodge needed to get some kind of contrary conduct charge for his reaction in kicking the legs out afterwards. MRC has gone soft this week.

The match review committee inconsistently jumps between light charges and heavy charges depending on the View of the public and media.

They cop it for going to light on someone and then come out with a hefty charge the next week. And then vice versa the next week.
