Young Eels playmaker Jaeman Salmon convicted of low-range drink driving after horror car crash

Parramatta playmaker Jaeman Salmon has been convicted of low-range drink driving following a horror car crash last October. Salmon was also fined $1500 and disqualified from driving for six months when he fronted Sutherland Local Court on Thursday. The 20-year-old told police he was checking his phone when his Jeep Cherokee crossed onto the wrong side of the road, hit three parked cars before flipping onto its roof.

George Burgess knocks back Parramatta Eels offer, will remain with South Sydney Rabbitohs

George Burgess has knocked back an offer from the Parramatta Eels and will remain with the Rabbitohs until at least the end of 2019. South Sydney haven't got a contract beyond this year on the table, but Burgess is backing himself to earn a new deal in his first season under new coach Wayne Bennett.

What better time to seriously get on the turps? NRL season set to begin, fighting for a starting spot, NRL adopting an almost zero tolerance approach. But I'll reserve my judgement til Cat weighs in - being Parramatta and all.

I think you've got the Eels mixed up with the Bulldogs here, Gerg.

Junior Paulo looked good on his first outing, excellent even. Looks a bit trimmer than he was with us. Offloading, plenty of post-contact metres.

Parra look good with Dylan Brown and Gutho clicking instantly, and guys running off them like Lane, Niukora and Jenko.

Roosters this week will show us where they're at

Reports Gutho has rejected the Eels offer and may test the market.

Cowboys kept money aside for Val Holmes and are in need of a fullback. Also Bunnies might be interested as a replacement for Inglis. Titans really need some quality in the backline. There will be plenty of competition for his signature.

He is testing the market. The Eels had a Round 5 deadline they didn't meet.

I don’t think manly are renewing Dylan Walker, so there would be money. Problem is, they have a fullback and a five eighth.

True I hadn't thought of Walker. Tommy is talented enough to play anywhere in the side, but would he be as effective at centre as he is at the back. Probably not but are these hamstring issues a sign that he needs to move away from fullback.

Yes I don't see value in him with anything too much over 600k.

I believe that's around his value. Gutho is in the higher tier of fullbacks but falls short of the elite level (Teddy, Turbo, RTS etc). There are a few teams with major need in that position and Gutho is a genuine upgrade for them. Those guys will definitely pay more than the 600k mark.

Titans is one of those but they like directing the big $$ to middle forwards.

After looking at the team lists this weekend I actually don’t think any clubs are in a position or would want to offer Gutho $700k.

*Souths may be interested with Inglis’s money but O think they are better off promoting from within.

Cowboys. They kept some cap money aside for Val Holmes and Gutho comes in under that. Currently have Te Maire Marting stinking up the joint back there.

Souths. Inglis has given them a fair bit of cap space. Bennett isn't sold on Johnstone at fullback and he has no alleigance to anybody in their junior system.

Broncos. Darius may have out stayed his welcome. Potential transfer to Souths before June 30 but at a minimum he could be pushed out the door for 2020.

Dragons. Widdop is gone so have cap room. Dufty looking risky at the back. Gutho would be an upgrade for them next season.

Titans. Their outside backs are garbage. Can't see Gordon being their fullback again next year. Provided they don't decide fork out $800k for Joe Ofahengaue or something they should be able to find the cash.

Bulldogs. Nobody locked into the fullback role and they will start seeing some daylight in their cap again after 2020.

All that said he's likely to stay at the Eels. Reports are he's been offered $1.9m over 3 years. Manager seeking $2.8m over 4 years. Thats fairly close to a compromise. The will end up agreeing on something like $2.1 over 3 years or $2.5m over 4 years.

Titans have AJ Brimson for fullback. He should be there already but I assume they're managing him / dealing with injuries.

He isn’t going anywhere this year so I am talking about fullbacks for 2020.
Cowboys: Will hold off as long as possible in the hope of signing Holmes.

Souths: Have the money but also have a capable FB in Johnston and by 2020 Allan will be ready to go.

Dragons: May be interested but I don’t think they have space to pay 700k

Titans: Gordon will have retired and Brimson will be ready to go.

Bulldogs: By all reports are still screwed by salary cap but If they can move Foran on would also be a chance.

Sorry I didn’t realise I missed the Broncos.
My guess is that they will transition Isaako to FB but doesn’t Boyd have like 3 years left on a pretty rich contract?
So they would need to move him on before splashing the cash on another FB.

Yeah seems an almost unanimous opinion that Gutho isn’t worth over $600k.

Management obviously trying to play on the “King Gutho” hype, it’s not working at the moment but all it takes is 1 desperate club willing to pay overs and there’s a few floundering at the moment.

Would people rather Gutho or Jack on that kind of money?

I’m not entirely sure, but Gutho might just pip Jack on talent. Jack has him on history of injury.

Boyd has 2 more years on the current contract but that doesn't mean much these days.

Yes these are all possibilities but those teams I named ARE in a position to make a play for Gutho. Whether they have better options is the point that can be debated.
