This interview perfectly illustrates why the NRL has these sorts of problems.

These latest incidents are just the 2019 version of the same attitudes and behaviours that have been synonymous with male dominated workplaces since forever.

The mobile phone and the celebrity has delivered these grubs into our lounge rooms but Wiedler and Gould are kidding themselves if they think this kind of grubby misogynistic behaviour and the attitudes behind it are new to rugby league clubs.
I just read the transcript and trying to find where Weedler and Gould were saying this is new to rugby league clubs.

Greg Alexander on NRL 360 saying he “hoped Laurie Daley was saying these things for the right reasons”. Then that his comments were a kick in the guts for the Penrith community and that there’d be no teams left to play for if Laurie took that attitude given the history of misbehaviour at other clubs.

Not a lot of contrition from Greg Alexander.

But in many respects, i think Julian is right.
Now we dont know how consensual the acts were... but if we assume the acts itself were consensual and the filming was also consensual. Then that's just a consensual act between two parties. The problem in that instance is the leaking. Otherwise it's just two people who like a bit of rough sex and like to be filmed.

Whilst it's something i would encourage any person (public profile or not!) to avoid that kind of thing, simply because the span of control is very difficult.

But the acts itself? Rough sex and filming it... that's not a particularly vulgur or unusual part of a sexual appetitite.

If everyone acts honourably here, two people engage in a consensual act and agree to have it filmed. And no one other than the participants ever see it. That's perfectly fine.

The problem is when one party is not acting honourably and is now sharing that footage without consent.

Of course if the physical nature of the act and the filming wasnt consensual, then that's a whole different kettle of fish
Are you serious Pig, the whole point is that the 2 women knew nothing of the the footage until it was pointed out to them by a third party. Rather embarrassing don't you think.
Yes, im serious.
Im speaking broadly about the video leaks as the whole, and the acts of this nature, and a desire to film it. Im of the belief that anyone should have to right to do whatever the **** they like sexually, as long as it's consensual.

In this specific case, some of the women appear to have not given any consent for either the filming or distribution, and i hope the DPP pushes for the maximum sentence for these crimes if they can prove it, the scope of this breach given their level of fame is significant. And if guilty, they should be made an example of.

That, as i made clear (and clearer now again), is a totally different kettle of fish. There has been what? 12 videos released thus far, and it would appear most have been consensual filmed.
This the only case where charges have been laid under the revenge porn legislation (i believe these intimate images and distribution were introduced or at least strengthen by these laws? Though happy to be corrected on that)

So broadly the leaks (read: illegal and non consensual distribution) is a major part of this entire NRL off season.

Hmmm, sounds a bit defensive. Taking the "we're no worse than everybody else" angle.

Luke Lewis on NRL 360 said it as it is. He said he'd seen his mother dragged down the hall by her hair and it was up to players to stop the cycle of domestic violence. Stop it or you're a grub, he said. I've never been so impressed with Luke Lewis.

Thats the key. They have been charged by police for filming without consent which suggests there evidence that consent [EDIT to distribute] was not given.

Indeed GEM.

This sort of behaviour should have been nipped in the butt 11 years ago. It's a small percentage and should be dumped from the game to send a clear message.
You have to do more than just get rid of the blokes whose disrespect for women ends in a guilty verdict.

You need to change the culture and I firmly believe the best way to do that is with more qualified women and less former players.

Their argument that it is a wider societal problem is by extension an argument that it isn't a rugby league problem. At least that's how I interpret their self-serving comments.

Anyway, I really don't care that much. Apparently there are a lot more players and tapes involved. I just hope none of them are Raiders.

Seems to be how the AFL handles everything these days and manages to get away with it. Snorting of white powder - Yeah it's that new trend of inhaling spearmint....

On ABC they just ran a report claiming there are whatsapp groups of NRL players where these kinds of videos are frequently shared around.

After Tyrone May's charges, insiders lift the lid on how NRL sex tapes are spreading in WhatsApp groups

Videos of NRL players having sex are being shared on an almost daily basis, according to two men who have spoken to the ABC.

Actually the only problem I have with this hard line approach is it comes back to media exposure. This is a massive issue for me in that one club is owned by a media organisation that will relentlessly pursue incidents that players from other clubs are involved with. At the same time happy to sweep sweep in house matters.

Fair point. Its always been driven by media exposure, which means these organisations can be selective about if and when then reveal it. You wonder if they have a dirt file on a lot of clubs and players.

We really should have thrown open the chequebook for him years ago.

I do wonder though what his real thoughts are on the Cronulla culture - while it has never been rumoured (to my knowledge) that they had issues like the current sex tape scandal, they have been a pack of grubs for a long time, with a culture of arrogance towards the authority of the comp, with drug scandals, salary cap cheating, and everything that goes with having players like Fifita on board.

Canterbury Bulldogs recruit Corey Harawira-Naera has brushed off links to sex-tape leaks at Penrith Panthers

Canterbury forward Corey Harawira-Naera says he had no concerns about being investigated by the NRL integrity unit over the Penrith sex tapes scandal. The former Panthers player was interviewed by the governing body last week after being linked as a potential leak of tapes involving three ex-teammates.

Tyrone Phillips has immediately resigned from Penrith, the club’s general manager of football Phil Gould has revealed. Phillips was charged on Saturday night with mid-range drink driving. Phillips was embroiled in a sex tape scandal during the off-season when a lewd video of him and fellow Panthers reserve grade player Liam Coleman was released online.
