‘I know the decision has to be made’: Sydney Roosters half Cooper Cronk gives retirement call deadline

Cooper Cronk will play his 350th NRL game in the Roosters’ blockbuster season opener against the Rabbitohs at the SCG on Friday night.

“Yeah I don’t know [what I’m doing next year],” he said on Monday. “Obviously I’m off contract and all those things... my date of birth says I probably should be [retiring]. But no I’ll give myself two or three months to get through the first part of the season, make sure I’m doing really good things physically and on-field performance, and then I’ll worry about that later.

The Sydney Roosters are the most logical team for relocation
Tim Gore

There has been a lot of talk recently about relocating a team from Sydney to either greater Brisbane or Perth. It seems that the prevailing logic is that there are too many teams in the Sydney area to be viable. I don’t necessarily agree with that logic at all. However, if a side is to be relocated, there is an obvious choice: The Sydney Roosters.

Sydney Roosters make play for $1 million man Tevita Pangai Jnr as Broncos race to wrap up deal

Broncos star Tevita Pangai Junior is a free agent — and after his star performance against the Cowboys in Round 2, NRL clubs are sitting up and taking notice.

Brisbane’s Channel 7 is reporting the Roosters are preparing to make a big play for the burgeoning Origin representative, with his next contract tipped to be close to $1 million per season.

So Roosters would have more than 20% of their cap taken up by Crichton and TPJ?

It’s just really upsetting to see we had TPJ’s interest last year to join and the club said no to him.

As i have said before, every player is for sale when you get that sort of approach but unfortunately our club lacks the steel and fortitude to make those decisions. That’s why we will forever be a bottom 8 team

BTW if you missed Trent Robinson on NRL 360 tonight, catch a replay. You can see why he’s a premiership winning coach...

NRL 360 just announced Latrell Mitchell has been fined by police for a nightclub incident. He was involved in a stoush but wasn't one of the guys throwing punches. Sounds like he was fined for verbal abuse of the club's security personnel.

Might need to upgrade Keary. He's signed till end of 2020.

Mitchell is on 550 and will need at least another 300. Keary is on 700 and you'd think is looking at 850-1m. So that would be half the Cronk money gone, leaving only 4.5m in their cap.

Would not surprise. Roosters have seen nothing like the $1m player they thought they signed. Would be looking at Cameron Murray and thinking they bought the wrong bunny.

It's hard for any player in the Roosters system to really 'stand out' as a million dollar player when there are at least 4 of them.
