Nathan Browns deal in Newcastle is a special one.

There's no 2-3-4 yr deal, it's open ended, performance based..

He's the coach until he's tapped on the shoulder.

He's under extreme pressure..read the Knights forums !!!

They should be doing a lot better. Starting with Ponga at 6 was a major fail

Got a link?

I have a friend that is too lazy to google and would like to see it.

They are in a massive hole though.

Wonder who they would get if they sack Brown, not exactly a great deal of talent out there.

Still early days but it's interesting to compare the results so far of the two different recruiting approaches taken by us and the Knights. It seems to me if you enter a arms race and try build a squad off elite NRL talent you're destined to lose out, unless you're one of a couple of clubs.

I don't rate Danny Levi or Lachlan Fitzgibbon..I just don't !!!

To think that Levi has played test footy...

The Knights have bolstered their pack..Klemmer, Gavet, Glasby, Barnett all have merit.

Hmm I think they were looking good but Brown has botched a few recruitment decisions over the past 2 years:

- Moga. Everyone rates him but had umpteen knee recos that have left him a liability in defense. Got signed on inflated money after one breakout season with Brisbane. Not costing them directly on field but more cap wise.

- Gavet. He’s just not very good and stopping the development of others imo.

- Not signing a hooker, but signing Kurt Mann. Even getting Baptiste or someone would have made them much better. I used to rate Levi but since the back injury he’s a shadow of his former self.

- Guerra and Glasby are both decent but probably on massive overs. Guerra had been on the downhill slide for some time before his move. Roosters weren’t worried to move him on at all purely as a player.

- re-signing Buhrer in what looks like a hooker role.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

In saying all that I am still surprised at how bad they are this year. I’m not in happy that it has coincided with Pearce as captain. It is glorious that after 6 rounds I’ve heard about 5 different names thrown up for the NSW halves and not heard Pearce.

Knights play to Ponga and hope he does something. They are lacking a 9 and a 6.

Brown is on thin ice, this is his team and he stuffed up with some of his recruitment.

With his contract he can get the flick without any payout from the Knights.

The media hyped them up because they recruited Klemmer. He was the missing piece. Sadly for them he isn't the missing piece.

He played really well last year but maybe he is annoyed that he was leading the side around the park last year but this year's strategy revolves around Ponga - I think it has negatively affected both of them. They look like a poorly coached side as well.

They remind me a lot of us in 2017, except we actually earned a bit of the hype. They have played like they expect it to just come to them.

I am surprised they didn’t go after Reece Robson. He was never getting a run at St George and whilst still young looks like a genuine prospect.

Fitzgibbon was great last year when he was fitter. He's too slow now and needs to move into the middle.

To think they got the spoon 3 years and a row for this.
The narrative is surely over.
It doesn’t take 3 years to rebuild in a salary cap competition.

Jesse Ramien set to leave Newcastle Knights after being given permission to negotiate with rivals

Jesse Ramien is on his way out of Newcastle, with the centre given permission to negotiate with clubs immediately. He’s not expected to play for the Knights again, and is unlikely to be around training.

Ramien was going pretty well until a few weeks ago.

In that same article they suggest that RCG is on 900k for the next five years. There's gotta be a typo there.

24/93 @ 23% win ratio.
That's Nathan Browns numbers.

The worst of any Knights coach in history.

Remember though..he walked into sidemouths mess and has been responsible for some decent signings for the club. Unfortunately..results have forced Wests hand here !!!

Coach Nathan Brown to leave Newcastle Knights at end of 2019

Nathan Brown will exit the Newcastle Knights at the end of 2019. Brown and Knights officials met on Monday night and came to a mutual agreement to part ways at season's end with Newcastle's finals hopes still up in the air.

Newcastle Knights club statement

Head Coach Nathan Brown’s tenure at the helm of the nib Newcastle Knights will come to a close at the end of the 2019 National Rugby League season.

With a focus on a Top 8 finish to the season, both Brown and Knights Chief Executive Officer Philip Gardner feel it’s the appropriate time to move on with his career.

Gardner praised Brown’s leadership through one of the most tumultuous periods in the Club’s 32-year existence.

“Nathan will go down as one of the most important coaches in Knights history,” Gardner said.

“When he joined our Club ahead of the 2016 season, it was at its lowest ebb. The sheer size and scale of the task he was faced with was monumental. It would have broken a lesser man.

“Put simply, it would be wrong to measure his contribution to the Knights in wins and losses alone.

“Nathan shaped our roster as he did our Club. He once again made Newcastle a place that players wanted to not just play in, but play for.

“His record speaks for itself. He has laid the platform for the team to return to premiership contention, and he has been the driving force behind adding both depth and quality to the roster.

“He brought true world class talent back to the club in the signings of Mitchell Pearce, Kalyn Ponga, David Klemmer, Tim Glasby and more. He also led the development of home-grown talents like Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Daniel Saifiti, and Mitch Barnett, who all grew immeasurably under his leadership.

“And in the years to come, we will see his hard work pay off when a new wave of local juniors enter the ranks of Knights NRL players – and this time, they will be ready to step up to the challenge.

“But more than that, Nathan’s calm and consistent manner is rare among the ranks of NRL coaches. He is a leader of men and a good man himself. His respect for his players, colleagues and the game sets him apart and is something he is known for, not just within the Club, but across Rugby League.

“Nathan leaves with our utmost respect and gratitude for the transformational role he has played as head coach of the Knights. What’s more, he leaves with our thanks. When the Knights return to the upper echelons of the NRL, Nathan Brown will be able to take his fair share of the credit.”

Brown has coached the Knights on 93 occasions since joining the Club ahead of the 2016 season, seeing him sit third on the all-time list of Knights coaches by appearance, behind only Premiership Winners Michael Hagan (155 matches as coach) and Malcolm Reilly (98 matches).

With the rebuild of the Club complete, Brown said the time is right to move on.

“My main job was to come here and put the Club back together,” Brown said.

“It’s been a tough but enjoyable job. I’ve met lots of great people and I feel the club is far better off for me coming here.

“The roster and salary cap issues have been resolved and there’s the potential of a team to have sustained success.

“A lot of the heavy lifting has been done and now I’m leaving it to the next group of club leaders to continue the job.

“But it’s important to remember the year is not over and I look forward to finishing the season off strongly and push for a final birth.”

The Knights now commence the search for a new coach.

Ben Walker has 'retired' as coach of the Jets. Knights should roll the dice on him. Could do amazing things with that squad.

I don't know how anybody could think Brennan is an option after we've watched the Titans gradually deteriorate under his watch. He had a reasonably talented roster and managed to get everybody except Jai Arrow playing below their best.

The first guy they should sign is Furner as an assistant. He's been very successful in that capacity.
