that tongan team is impressive, surprising to see they've put hingano at 7, they obviously have faith in him, a lot more than we do, having him play as a backup hooker was a waste, i wonder if he'd be better at 7 for the club than williams?

I haven’t written the Hingano off as a potential option at half for the Raiders. He might’ve been rubbish in his limited appearances in 2018 but none of them were in his natural position in the halves. Give him a chance I reckon

Same team Mal? If it's a wet track and turned into a forward battle we'll lose.

Kangaroos v Tonga Test sold out

Saturday night's historic Test between the Kangaroos and Mate Ma'a Tonga at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland has officially sold out.

The match is the first Test between the two nations with anticipation sky-high after Tonga's impressive World Cup semi-finals finish last year and a new-look Australia's narrow loss to the Kiwis last Saturday.

Tonga's rise coincided with a number of high-profile defections from tier one nation players like Kiwis Jason Taumalolo, Siosiua Taukeiaho and Manu Ma'u plus Kangaroo Andrew Fifita, who will be facing off against Australia for the first time.

Saw him playing his "natural position" for the Mounties. Didn't inspire me with confidence.

Maybe not, I’d imagine training as a 9 / winger all year would probably have an impact. Every time he’s played there for Tonga he’s looked good imo

Canberra Raiders hooker Siliva Havili making a difference for his Tongan homeland

Siliva Havili can't help but laugh when he compares this week to the Tongan camps of old.

"We stayed out at some of the funniest motels [for previous Tests]. I was just buzzing out this weekend because we got put into the SkyCity Hotel here in Auckland with the casino. I was thinking we’ve come a long way. Hopefully that only builds for not only Tonga itself, but all second-tier teams and Pacific teams, to make the international game number one."

Doubtful, I don't think they carried the NRL this year. If you have semi decent internet there sign up for watchNRL, they will have a 2 week trial.

Worst Aussie halves ever.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

And honestly, any team that has Ben Hunt and Aaron Woods in it deserves to lose.
Tommy Turbo at centre? Gagai wing?
Ben Hunt? Ben freaking Hunt? If he wasn't a QLDer he wouldn't be considered. Mal sucks as a coach.

The stadium is a sea of red and white, it's extraordinary. Lots of people sitting on the steep grass hills at the northern end of the stadium - which are normally unoccupied, it's not really designed to be seating these days. It is a perfect evening in Auckland for the match.

The Tongan team crouch in a circle in prayer... and now they huddle, touching hands. The teams are now lining up side by side and they are welcomed onto the field. Amazing scenes. It looks like every single person in the crowd has a Tongan flag. It brings a tear to the eye, such is this moment for the code of rugby league. Now the national anthems.

3rd min The referee says Tonga have knocked on, on the second tackle of that set... but the replay shows there's no knock on. Tonga hold on in the red zone...

Hingano has an injury problem. His left shoulder or arm... maybe it is a burner. Didn't seem to be a lot in it on replay. He goes in for a tackle... and now he's got no movement in the arm. And after all that, he's staying on.
