I suspect last year’s World Cup performance has damaged the credibility of the Kiwis fairly severely. Plus a lot of people with Pacific Island heritage in Auckland have probably transferred allegiances to the likes of Tonga and Samoa.
But this is probably worse than a Warriors crowd.

15th min Kiwis are getting themselves into the contest now. They have forced two line drop outs and now get another set in the red zone after Keary knocks on. And now a penalty... that should be a sin bin for Trbojevic he was that far off side.

17th min Luke Keary has had a head knock while attempting a tackle. He will need to go off for a HIA. Hunt comes on.

17th min Ken Maumalo grounds the ball in the corner... but on the touch in goal line. NO TRY for the Kiwis. New Zealand really needed to score after all that possession and territory.

Missed a try there. Jinked when he should’ve janked.. or passed to Rapana

28th min TRY KIWIS to Ken Maumalo. Marty Taupau having a big impact since he came on... there was even a pass between their legs in the lead up! Lots of offloads produce the result, finally. Shaun Johnson on the sideline... can't convert.

35th min TRY KIWIS to Joseph Manu! They're going to the bunker... the referee says try on field. It's down! No conversion from the sideline for Johnson.

39th min Going to video for a possible Kiwis try. And it is a great one. The referee says it is a try on field, it has gone to the bunker. And they are calling a knock on from Joseph Manu in the lead up. It's the wrong call. That is awful.

40th min TRY KANGAROOS to Dane Gagai. That is a cruel blow for the Kiwis after being denied a fair try at the other end of the field. The Roos make a big break down their right touch line. Valentine Holmes converts.

Really? I thought it was a knock on and on first viewing DWZ looked offside.

54th min TRY KIWIS to hooker Brandon Smith. He runs on the last and score on debut! It's gone to the bunker.... and they surely can't deny this one. The referee has called a try on field... and they say TRY! Shaun Johnson converts. Kiwis have three tries to two. The Kangaroos had all the ball and territory in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but the Kiwis did not concede any points and struck back.

62nd min TRY KIWIS to Esan Marsters in the corner! Oh it's a beautiful try! Johnson incredible on the last, dances and switches the play to the left and there's a two man overlap. Shaun Johnson again out wide for the conversion attempt... and this time he gets it.

68th min TRY KIWIS to Jordan Rapana in the corner! Stunning try, set up by a fantastic one handed inside pass from Joseph Manu! They run on the last again and it pays off! That's amazing! Johnson nails the conversion from the sideline!
