Don’t forget they changed the Shoulder Charge arm tuck definition after Wighton got off and have cracked down on it since with stronger charge base of 200 points.roneel78 wrote:Ummmm remember Jack Wighton getting off that massive shoulder charge against Tigers in 2016?dubby wrote:I agree, gangers.

Billy Slater? Nah.

I don’t like any of the remaining teams, but the Storm is the best option of the three remaining.

Woeful comparison. A) he was to be suspended and only got off because of public groundswell and...
B) the reason for the groundswell was because the NRL had NOT charged an elite player for the same thing in the same round. Thereby proving the original point.
Sorry roneel78 that’s a big fail mate.
Re: 2018 Finals Week 3: Teams and Game Day
Correct, even grade one will miss a game. I don’t get the slater hate personally hope he plays but it’s a hard situation for the nrl to be in.BJ wrote: ↑September 21, 2018, 9:47 pmDon’t forget they changed the Shoulder Charge arm tuck definition after Wighton got off and have cracked down on it since with stronger charge base of 200 points.roneel78 wrote:Ummmm remember Jack Wighton getting off that massive shoulder charge against Tigers in 2016?dubby wrote:I agree, gangers.

Re: 2018 Finals Week 3: Teams and Game Day
Congratulations NRL. 2 of the remaining 3 sides are the best wrestling teams going round. Early in the season the penalty crack down on ruck infringements gave me hope for the game. Some great attacking football and then the backflip because of media pressure, and now we are left with a dour, slow and predictable game that I just find so tedious. If Roosters win tomorrow I'm not even watching the GF.
Slater will get off. He's been an untouchable grub his whole career.

I want to see Slater play. But it is incompatible with the integrity of the rules. Up to the NRL which is more important.
Hypothetically if you’re Billy and do get suspended, do you abort the retirement and go again?

It's a shoulder charge not a tackle... but he gets away with it regularly along with the late tackles when tries are scored.Finite wrote:The slater tackle: https://m.imgur.com/r/sports/LJDqI49

Yes. I would sign for the Raiders on a 5 year contract for $100,000 a yeargangrenous wrote: ↑September 21, 2018, 9:52 pm I want to see Slater play. But it is incompatible with the integrity of the rules. Up to the NRL which is more important.

Lots of Blues sour grapes happening. If Jarrod Croker had produced that tackle, would you be wanting him exonerated for a Grand Final? I think so.

They've just replayed the shoulder charge numerous times on Fox.
It's pretty plain.
Must miss the GF..if their fair dinkum.

Of course I’d want him exonerated. But I’d also understand that by the rules he certainly shouldn’t be. And in the NRL Croker would be rubbed out in a second.

You're hardly an objective fan GE. It took a Cameron Smith cheapshot on Croker for you to concede that Smith was a grub. When Smith is arguably the biggest grub currently playing the game. No hang on a minute there is no argument about it.greeneyed wrote:Lots of Blues sour grapes happening. What odds for slater to be suspended but get the Clive Churchill medal? He might even be a member of the winning team at least this time

As per the original post I replied to, wighton did get off.
And stars have been suspended for big games......Cam Smith, Isaac Luke, Mick Ennis etc all missed grand finals.

Re: 2018 Finals Week 3: Teams and Game Day
So... does Bellamy go to GOAT if he wins next week?
Re: 2018 Finals Week 3: Teams and Game Day
100% agree Finite. Here is Fifita trying to prove he is the toughest (and dumbest by letting his team mates down) and Smith and Slater have their heads in putting points on the Board to get to a Grand Final. I think the Sharks are easily the grubbiest side in the NRL. Justice.
On another matter. Good to see Luke Lewis go out with a try in his final match. He is a wonderful player. Hard, fast but fair. Out of place amongst the niggle and scragging of most of the Cronulla gropers forwards.
Re: 2018 Finals Week 3: Teams and Game Day
I think Slater should have no case to answer for the shoulder charge. This was always my fear after a couple of shoulder charges went high and the NRL panicked. A fullback coming across the field going shoulder to shoulder with an attacking player should be allowed to bump the attacker over the side line. The definition is:
• The contact is forceful, and;
• The player did not use, or attempt to use, his arms (including his hands) to tackle or otherwise take hold of the opposing player.
Slater clearly had an open right hand across the Shark player at the point of contact. Imo this constitutes an 'attempt to use' his arms (including his hands). What Slater did was within the rules imo and he should be fine to play in the Grand Final.

Re: 2018 Finals Week 3: Teams and Game Day
That's the first time that I have seen it. I don't see how anyone can possibly argue that it wasn't a shoulder charge. It clearly was and the on field officials agreed. I don't believe that is worth missing a grandfinal over, but if there is any consistency he should be cited and be called to answer his case. Given that if Slater didn't employ a deliberate illegal tackle, the shark player definitely scores, why wasn't that a penalty try?Finite wrote:The slater tackle: https://m.imgur.com/r/sports/LJDqI49

Re: 2018 Finals Week 3: Teams and Game Day
Have to agree. The shoulder charge offence is one I've never agreed with. The attacking player is allowed to do it - ie hitting it up off a kick off.Dr Zaius wrote:That's the first time that I have seen it. The referees could have awarded a penalty try or a sinbin for it because it was a deliberate foul play in the act of scoring a try yet Storm get away with it again.
Late in the first half they also deliberately stood offside and gave away a penalty to halt any momentum and I think it was Sterlo who commented that it should have been a sinbin.

Even you can't say with a straight face that Smith, Slater and Thurston have been treated as any other player has during their careers. How did you feel when Campese was sinbinned for swearing at a referee when Thurston did the same thing regularly? How did you feel when Smith did the cheapshot on Croker? I'm trying to recall a specific incident with Slater on a raiders player because I have to make a raiders comparison for you to take your blinkers off.greeneyed wrote:You call me out for not being objective!
