Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
"Third man in" Thaiday has announced his retirement at seasons end.
That should free up $$$ for the Broncos to buy Latrell Mitchell, Nathan Cleary and David Klemmer.

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
They've wrapped him up before gets to that Arrow, Wallace, Ese'ese point of proving he can actually play first grade for another side to give them $$$$. It's a lot of money on an unproven player. Especially a front rower.
Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
It seems like a lot but if they back end it and the cap gets a boost again in 2023/24 it's really not that much. Plus lets face it, if he sucks they will shop him to the Titans or Tigers for most of his salary anyway.

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
If Ardrew Gee isn't going to co-operate with the NRL then he has no damn business being in a coaches box.
Co-operate, or be ejected from all forms of NRL completely.

Darren Lockyer to sit on panel to decide next Brisbane Broncos coach
Brisbane legend Darren Lockyer will sit on a three-man selection panel which will decide the next Broncos head coach, with candidates set to be interviewed in the next fortnight.
Broncos director Lockyer, chairman Karl Morris and CEO Paul White make up the panel that will interview the candidates, which NRL.com understands will at least include New Zealand coach Michael Maguire, Broncos assistant Jason Demetriou, South Sydney mentor Anthony Seibold and Maroons coach Kevin Walters.

Meanwhile, Broncos coach Wayne Bennett sent a text to all his players about his plans for next year.
"There will be a press release at 4.30[pm] stating that 2019 will be my final season for the Brisbane Broncos. I'm committed to you for 2019 and excited with what we can achieve together. It was a club decision that 2019 was my last and you know regardless of that we know what a great group we are together. Have a good rest for us to have the best possible season. Have a fire in the belly for 2019. - Coach"

Sounds like an excuse to throw some more money at Lockyer. Surely they've already selected Siebold?

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
If I was Souths, I wouldn't be impressed by siebold interviewing in a competitive process. It's one thing to be poached, it's another to shop yourself around.
Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
I agree.
Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
There was speculation just before the finals, that he wanted the Broncos job. He didn't deny being interested despite trying to shutdown the speculation in a post match press conference, I think it was.

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
oates set to stay at broncos for $200,000 per season less than what he is being offered elsewhere.. still trotting out the 'staying because wayne's here' line even though wayne is on the outer and being shipped out.
Isn't there supposed to be something in place to ensure that players are being paid market value?
To me when offers for 150% of what you take up is ignored, that's not market value.

I also don't think the market value thing is actually a rule, it's just a discretionary reason the NRL can use to block a contract. They only ever used it against Parra.

Yeah that market value thing confuses me. It’s what stopped Parra from signing Folau. I think the rule varies depending on how much you grease the NRLs coffersedwahu wrote:I don't think the article said per season.Sid wrote: ↑October 19, 2018, 9:45 am oates set to stay at broncos for $200,000 per season less than what he is being offered elsewhere.. still trotting out the 'staying because wayne's here' line even though wayne is on the outer and being shipped out.

If he doesn't get the job, well he is the coach that would have ditched us for the Broncos.

The was talk it would be formalised with all offers registered with the NRL, along with a whole lot of reasons it didn't need to be followed such as been close to a beach.Fuifui Bradbrad wrote: ↑October 19, 2018, 11:36 amYeah that market value thing confuses me.
