MATCH REPORT: Thurston magic leads Cowboys to testimonial win

The show and go is back, and the banana kick, and how.

In a moment that could not have been scripted better, Johnathan Thurston pulled a stunning banana kick out of his box of tricks in the final minute to set up a try for hat-trick hero Kyle Feldt and secure a 16-14 win for the North Queensland Cowboys over the Melbourne Storm in his testimonial match at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

COWBOYS 16 (Kyle Feldt 3, Johnathan Thurston tries) beat STORM 14 (Young Tonumaipea, Curtis Scott, Billy Walters tries; Scott Drinkwater goal).

Looking forward to the Raiders second trial this weekend. Last week blew the cobwebs out and I’m expecting a team ready for NRL this week.

Are we seriously the only club not playing a second trial?

Some clubs, like the Dogs are not running their first grade players in their second trial. But yes, we're the only club. The Raiders had an internal opposed session this morning instead. The Raiders won.

Bulldogs shock full-strength Panthers

A severely-depleted Canterbury Bulldogs have proved too strong for a near full-strength Penrith Panthers line-up in Saturday night's trial at Belmore Sportsground.

The Bulldogs ran out 24-10 winners against a Penrith side that looked far sharper than their less experienced counterparts for the opening 20 minutes before falling away badly. Errors and penalties plagued the Panthers over the final 60 minutes of the match.

He deserves a referees whistle. Instead of telling the refs when the Storm deserve a penalty he could just blow one.

Parramatta Eels turn on the style to thump Newcastle Knights

This was only ever going to be about two people. The prodigal son, Jarryd Hayne, returning to his beloved Parramatta Eels after a 1268-day absence. And the second coming of the ever-eventful career of Mitchell Pearce at the Newcastle Knights.

On Saturday night in the country town of Maitland, the pair crossed paths in their first public appearances for their new clubs in Parramatta's 28-6 victory.

Cronulla Sharks record comfortable 24-12 trial win over Wests Tigers

Cronulla Sharks star Val Holmes has paid the deposit and then some on his preferred fullback position as both Josh Dugan and Matt Moylan finished a 24-12 defeat of Wests Tigers in the dressing sheds.

A scorching opening 40 minutes from the Australia and Queensland flyer in the heat of Sydney's south west netted Holmes a first-half double, while Dugan's first outing in Cronulla colours was ended by a knock to the jaw midway through the second half.
